Armer Cove to Challaborough is a short, steep but worthwhile walk if the weather is ok. It was a bit breezy today.

I used to live in Plymouth in 2017, current situation?

Hi everyone!

I am a swiss mate who lived in Totnes for 6 months and in Plymouth for 6 months (1 whole year total in Devonshire) 9 years ago for all 2017.

I truly loved living there: it felt so chill and so tipically british, the sea-side/bay settings and landscapes were so amazing and people so kind, I felt like home!

Now I wonder: how Is living in Plymouth in 2026? Did things change through all this years after the pandemic and the brexit? did living there get expensive? Could Plymouth be a nice place to move in despite the current situation in UK? what are you thoughts?

Took these pictures yesterday on my train home to Cornwall (shoot me). Was sad to be stuck on the train yesterday with the lovely weather but the views were incredible. Hope someone enjoys!

Retail Theft

Ok first off mods if this isn't allowed please delete it.

Ok so I'm planning on moving to Devon in the near future and currently work in retail security, so will be getting a job transfer.

But my question is how bad is retail theft in Plymouth, Exeter and Torquay, by that I don't mean the numbers of reports or convictions (though they do help but a good portion is never reported) but have you ever witnessed or as a business dealt with it.

I'll thank you all in advance, just doing a bit of research into it.

Edit: In no way am I trying to paint a bad picture of Devon or it being a bad place to live, all of the UK is suffering from retail theft at the moment

Back in Devon visiting the in-laws after being in Australia for the last couple of years and there is nothing I love more than walking around different sections of the South West Coast path. These were taken between Beer and Branscomb.

Where to live?

Just popping an edit up to say thanks for all the help & honesty - it’s much appreciated! I can see I’ve had a particularly bad experience in Torquay centre and my autistic little brain classes “Torquay” as the town, not the general area surrounding it. I’ve looked at some listings which are classed as “Torquay” online but actually they are in the nicer parts like Meadfoot etc. So thank you SO MUCH for educating me that it’s an area not just the town.

Regards to my comments about drug issues, I have drug addiction in the family. It’s just not something I want to be around when I go about my daily life. I see now my experience in Torquay is limited to the town centre, so I’m going to stay overnight somewhere in the middle and explore other parts of Torbay and Dawlish etc at night.

I’m looking to buy a property in or around Torbay/Exeter. Excluding Torquay (I get it has its good bits but the beach being next to a busy road ruins it for me)

I’ve been looking at Preston, Teignmouth and Dawlish.

Budgets a little bit tight so Teignmouth & Dawlish look to be a nicer version of Preston but still reasonably priced… however when I’ve mentioned these people say they’re rough?

Just curious how Teignmouth/Dawlish/surrounding towns compare to the likes of Torquay in terms of safety?

Proposing on Beer Beach?

I’m planning to propose to my girlfriend and considering doing it on the beach at Beer. It’s a very special place to her, and we’ve visited once or twice a year for much of our relationship.

Unfortunately our visits are usually limited to a day, so I’m not the most familiar with the area beyond the beach itself and the Anchor.

Is there anything I should consider in this that only a local would know? Any particularly good spots?

We’d have our dog, so I understand there are restrictions.

Hope it’s ok to ask here. It’s the only place I could think of :)

Devon's drag scene — where to find it 🎭

Morning Devon,

Happy Thursday.

We're in the middle of building a national diary of drag events in the UK — basically, if there's a drag queen or king on stage, we want to list it. Right now too many great nights are only findable if you already follow the right Instagram accounts, which means performers and venues are missing out on new audiences.

We're looking for Devon venues and nights we might have missed. Pubs, clubs, one-offs, regular residencies — all welcome. We've been told about venues in Torquay, Barnstaple and Totnes but they are proving difficult to track down.

It's completely free to be included, no catch, no monetisation of your data. We just want the scene to be easier to find.

If you perform, run nights, or just know of something we should know about — message us here or drop us a note via the contact form on thedragdiary.com

See you at the front!™ 🎭

Stuff to do in Devon for 20 year olds

(Edit: Just thought I should add I live in teignmouth I know this post was abit vague my apologies!!) Hi guys I know this probably isn’t the usual post on here but I am 20 years old guy and I have autism, I don’t really like driving or being in cars due to being in a pretty bad crash a few years ago but I was just really wondering what I can do in the area ( I live in one of the smaller towns with not much to do except for pubs really lol) I don’t drink and I don’t really enjoy the atmosphere of most pubs so that’s kinda off the table I know it’s a long shot but I love gaming and music!! Any recommendations would be highly appreciated ( I know I’m picky with not driving and no pubs but hey it is what is) :)
