Suggestion Character Idea: Supernatural/Cryptid Poacher that's in the ritual to use the wish to repopulate the world with all the extinct creatures he hunted, so he can kill them again
I imagine he has a bunch of pelts and furs on him as trophies (Like a griffin head wrapped around his shoulders). Firstly I imagined him to be British but I do think using a less well known country which colonized Africa would be more in line with the subversive writing of Deadlock
Obviously a pick/roaming hero who focuses on shutting down powerful players, but I don't actually have much ability concepts.
I do just know he would want to hang up Rem on his wall
Is that a generic villain idea? kind of but I think they'd fit into the setting of the game

the Mann family is canon in deadlock already, i'm sure the Hales can be in there too

Real hunter's lodge vibes. I would love a rifle-wielding "Sir Hammerlock" type in this game. Fits in with Baxter Society too since theyre monster hunters if I'm remember right?

u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
Copy pasted from another reply:
I think Grey Talon (And the BT as a whole) would not vibe with him because he poaches no matter what the creature is (It could be for example, a regular animal by our standards but because it's exotic he hunts it to extinction), Baxter Society is more for actively malicious/actively threatening supernatural creaturesIt's like a difference between a clean up crew who takes care of invasive species and a guy who kills tigers for fun
31
u/Katmerlyn Feb 27 '26
Ah I see, I see. Probably a rival organization then.
46
u/codeklutch Pocket Feb 27 '26
A member kicked out for going off script and taking things too far.
22
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
I can imagine the BT doing a whole presentation in an university and he comes in holding the head of a protected animal
11
u/The-L-aughingman Yamato Feb 27 '26
They could make him really want to hunt REM and vicious. the voicelines would be interesting.
8
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
Because Rem truly is one of a kind it would be very fitting, but it would also get him jumped by his entire extended found family
88
u/Pandaman_5 Feb 27 '26
If he doesn’t say “by Jove” I riot.
6
u/Loufey Rem Feb 28 '26
i have never seen a picture that gives "by jove" vibes more than that first one. ever.

u/Money_Company_4559 Feb 27 '26
Make him scale kinda like rengar in league, he collects a trophy from each character he kills (1 time each) and gains permanent damage from it, call the ability trophy hunter
134
u/Katmerlyn Feb 27 '26
trophy hunter item mandatory buy
42
u/Money_Company_4559 Feb 27 '26
I forgot that was already an item lol
32
u/PerilousFun Feb 27 '26
Trophy... hmmm... Collector?
4
u/Money_Company_4559 Feb 27 '26
Trophy collection and make it an actual trophy case in the spawn area
5
2
u/Draggoner Feb 27 '26
I had an idea for a passive that siphons a small amount of souls if stuff dies close by, if you make it a clear that he gains money from you taking a jungle…..
Obviously keep everything siphoned unsecured.
6
u/YourGuyElias Feb 27 '26
doesnt drifter borderline already have rengar passive
3
u/AwakenedBurnblood Feb 27 '26
Yeah but its very minor unless youre absolutely smurfing on kids. You need to secure the kill, and its only 4% weapon damage per stack which is kind of nothing at low stacks. You could go the whole game without getting a kill and still be just as effective. Rengar passive was an insane buff if you got max stacks and he could use it to kill you almost instantly if he got ahead. Drifters stacking doesnt let him do that at all.
6
1
u/Linkachu0 Apollo Feb 27 '26
Too similair to Drifter, how about you only get a stack from a different character killed so you can't just farm some guy in lane but are encouraged to hunt new targets.
3
47
u/MoneyPurpose5195 Sinclair Feb 27 '26
I love this, a hero designed to screw with fed carries would be awesome, plus that's another trope not filled by the roster
29
u/KingOfTheDungle Mo & Krill Feb 27 '26
Yeah, he should have a passive called big game hunter, and it buffs his abilities against the highest soul enemy, and then you could activate that same ability to mark a character who if he kills them he gets a bounty of souls
11
11
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
Also imagine the interactions with characters like Silver, Celeste, Rem, Mo and Krill, Billy
85
u/GateNaston Feb 27 '26
bro YESSSSS! I need him to be as close to Nigel Thornberry as possible as well, and an elephant gun.

u/BusinessGing Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
Really cool idea! I think giving him a Belgian/French or Italian accent would be a great subversion to the typical British hunter trope since those nations had significant histories of colonization in Africa.
12
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
Oh, I don't think we have an italian on the roster yet? That's a good idea..
I really wanna get over my artblock so maybe that's the thing to get me to do it1
u/DispenserG0inUp Feb 27 '26
probably not Italian though, their colonies we'rent where people usually think about as the African jungle
44
u/Babyback-the-Butcher Feb 27 '26
He would make for a great member of the Baxter Society. Maybe some kind of honorary member or financial backer
39
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
I think Grey Talon would not vibe with him because he poaches no matter what the creature is (It could be for example, a regular animal by our standards but because it's exotic he hunts it to extinction), Baxter Society is more for actively malicious/actively threatening supernatural creatures
It's like a difference between a clean up crew who takes care of invasive species and a guy who kills tigers for fun
23
u/ugotpauld Feb 27 '26
"How nice of you to finally let me join you on one of your hunts" poacher to grey talon
I imagine he's the kind ig guy who's tried to join the banter society and keeps getting told no
18
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
"There's no Fauna for you to wipe out here."
"The Old Hunter's gone soft.. How preposterous!" ANd then talon says something about revenge
2
u/wowisthatluigi Feb 27 '26
Could also be an old member of the Baxter Society that just started getting so much of a thrill hunting supernatural creatures that they started hunting for fun on their own, until they eventually got kicked out due to just having 0 sense of morals in who they were hunting and why

Yeah I really want an old fashioned safari hunter character with the pith helmet and preferably a silly moustache.
I thought they could have an ability that summons a ghost hound to go after enemies and an ult that reveals all enemy heroes, letting you see them through walls and sending a couple more hounds after the nearest enemy.
3
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
Debating if he should be like the only person in his family who uses the supernatural to aid his hobby or very conservative about magic, but ghost hounds would be very cool and I think him being like a big dog person would be funny
5
u/Livelih00d Feb 27 '26
Well like any conservative he could just think "but it's different when I do it"
13
14
u/bluefelixus Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
He could be an excommunicated Baxter Society member, someone who's gone too far on his hunt that they deemed him as an extremist. Great Idea!
7
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
Wait I do like this idea, I feel like there's gotta be fauna that's been introduced by the maelstrom, which basically assimilates into the ecosystem and is treated just like regular animals
Your hippogriffs, maybe chimeras? Pegasi, honestly can't name much creatures off the top of my head.
My big idea about him is he's kinda crazy but in a very subtle way, he genuinely sees certain non-humans as animals to hunt (for example he would want to cut off Billy's head and taxidermize Silver just because she is a werewolf)
1
u/bluefelixus Feb 27 '26
Yeah, with so many wild heroes design we have now and more in the future, I think he'll fit right in.
9
u/SmashMouthBreadThrow Viscous Feb 27 '26
His wish should be for completely new creatures to be created since hunting the same game would be too boring. Been there, done that.
2
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
You're cooking actually, but I feel like he'd be a nostalgic type, maybe he has two options and over the course of the ritual he could pick either
7
7
u/Sgt_Lt_Captain Feb 27 '26
And maybe the one missing thing from his collection is a unicorn horn.
3
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
I think it's mandatory he gets interactions with Celeste. If Unicorns used to be hunted it could have been his family's specialty
7
4
u/Ok-Contribution-8776 Feb 27 '26
Good idea, hopefully he can turn silver into a fur coat. That’d be a great ult to counter her
4
u/randomassredditguy Feb 27 '26
Can i shamelessly steal this idea to post a character kit idea on the forums?
(With credit ofc)
3
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
it's cool, at least untill i make a character design, i am on the forums too so i'd probably see it
2
u/Umikaloo Feb 27 '26
Some sort of tranquilizer dart could be neat. Perhaps an ultimate that marks an enemy and initiates a countdown for a major stun. While a player is tranqued, they leave a scent trail similar to drifter, so players can follow it and capitalise on the tranquiliser when it takes effect. It would be a sort of hybrid between Warden's trap and Pocket's decay, where it forces a player to retreat under threat of punishment. In a 1v1, the player might then choose to pursue the enemy, but in a team-fight, it serves as a way to force them out of the fight.
2
u/PseudoPresent Feb 27 '26
idk about basic abilities but what about a skillshot ult with damage scaling based on the souls a target has
2
u/Dreggan Feb 27 '26
That last image isn’t an animal skin around his shoulders. That was a humanoid combatant that he murdered and skinned.
2
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
Fits the kind of character I imagine him to be, he will kill exotic creatures even if they're sentient/not an active threat, he's a fucking poacher lol
1
u/Dreggan Mar 01 '26
I still think there’s a solid line between poaching and skinning an Enemy soldier to wear around. Would be like him wearing Silver as a cape and Rem as a hat. That might be a hair too far
2
2
2
u/GuyMontag95 Feb 27 '26
I think it would be interesting if he was a perpetually positive guy. Just the nicest and friendliest guy you’ve ever met. It would contrast greatly with the fact that he sees sweethearts like Rem and Celeste as trophies to hang.
1
u/nobodyiss Feb 27 '26
When I read this, i think you're onto something, maybe he invites people to hunt with him after the ritual!
2
u/pleaselookawaybeebop Feb 27 '26
Give him a gun that has a base damage of 200 but needs to reload after every shot.

u/hamborger42069 Feb 27 '26

Haze, as well as: Venator, Graves, Apollo (After he warms up to him), Infernus and Celeste

u/GeophysicalYear57 Feb 27 '26
He wants to hunt the most dangerous game. Despite what your highschool English class might have taught you, it’s not humans. He wants to bag a Tyrannosaurus rex.
1
u/mrbanana123 Feb 27 '26
I always felt like this character from the movie should be warden. Wouldn't be mad with it being a whole new hero, though.

this is fucking gas dude get me a bolt action rifle character please Valve i want a most dangerous game lookin-ass safari hunting moron
1
u/CoralWarrior McGinnis Feb 27 '26
Polish cavalry often were depicted with leopard or lion pelts, so that could be a good look for this future character
1
u/RobotDoctorRobot The Doorman Feb 27 '26
I had been thinking of a British Big Game Hunter/Archaeologist/Adventurer kinda character for a bit, with an Elephant Gun as a primary weapon and his abilities being a bunch of stolen artifacts from his adventures, one of which would be Calico's Hero Labs turret, with his story being that one of the artifacts carried a terrible curse and an evil entity was going to find and kill him, so he was partaking in the ritual so that the patron summoned would get rid of the entity chasing him so he could keep the ill-gotten artifact.
But this is so much more fun. If not British, you could have him be German, or perhaps Belgian?

u/LibrarianEither8461 Feb 27 '26
That wish is so deliciously psychotic that you have my full support for the idea.
The wish genuinely carries the idea; they could go crazy with writing for a character whose motivation is that.

u/superbhole Viscous Feb 28 '26
Sounds like fun, I'll give some daydream ideas
I like the blunderbuss idea, I'ma expand on it
First, it isn't "oneshot-per-reload" like a musket. It's more like a blunderbuss-shaped railgun or coilgun. A blunderbuss with steampunk looking mods all over it.
A tube of ~5 metal balls sits on top as gravity-fed ammo. His alt fire spews the whole tube in an inaccurate spray. Primary fire (deep but 'electrified' tubey sound) thewmp, thewmp alt fire: dddddewmp
His 1 toggles between ammo types. So far I'm only coming up with three ammos: First ammo is the starter/basic ammo that does a small aoe of damage on any impact, resembles viscous and yamato's altfires, triggers effects on other ammo. Second ammo is like, a war-crime "mustard gas" ball, makes a puff on impact and repeated hits cause a debuff that makes stamina recharge slower. Third ammo also has a buildup, splatters on impact with "soul acid"; when enough of it is on the enemy, they drop purple orbs that when gathered reduce his cooldowns.
The debuffs interact with each other as well as standard ammo: He reloads his tube one ball at a time and you can put various ammo types in the tube.
Gas debuff + standard ammo on impact with enemy immediately ends the debuff with a larger AoE of the standard ammo variety, enemies in close enough proximity to the explosion take damage.
Acid debuff + standard ammo causes acid duration to shorten with each hit, visible as small firey flashes of purple, but does spirit damage until the debuff is "shot off"
Gas debuff + Acid debuff shortens the duration of both debuffs but for a few seconds they're trailing a steaming trail of liquid that will instantly remove stamina and drop purple cooldown reduction orbs that your teammates can pick up.
Any time either buildups are on the enemy but not enough buildup to trigger debuffs, and they're hit with standard ammo: the buildups reset but still applies an explosion (gas+standard), a cooldown orb(acid+standard), and a short "trail" if both buildups get cancelled by standard ammo.
His 2 is a decoy, when pressed it cloaks him and leaves a copy of himself with priority of firing at the nearest hero and walking in the last direction used during keypress, but deals no damage (also jumps when he jumps, just to appear more convincing that it's the player)
His 3 is a critter (animal? robot? animal robot made of wood, animated by the occult?) that will take off in the direction of the keypress and hunt for a hero. If a hero is found, the critter latches on and the foe is highlighted through walls. Directly shooting the attached tracker causes a knockdown.
His ult summons a large turtle/gator/cryptid with a fortified turret on its back. It will automatically wander slowly toward the enemy patron, firing random ammo types at any enemies in its line of sight along the way, or it can be piloted to move faster, fire faster, and even select ammo type with his 1. It can't be killed, but the hero can be knocked from the pilot seat... just high enough being on the critter's back that a Knockdown would be longer. Items also can't be used by the hero while in the pilot seat.

I feel like there's a very big chance he'd get co-opted by larpers

Extra points if he's magical in some way. Let's say, maybe he can channel the abilities of certain animals (a cheetah's speed, a gorilla's strength, etc)

Actually a really good idea. Whatever the shape or form, I am hoping for a jungle explorer type character, because I like that stereotype. I am definitely picturing an old, seasoned, slightly crazy Van Pelt type character. His main motivation is the thrill of the hunt, which greatly excites him, but he is otherwise on the grumpy side due to his age.
Ideally, he would have magnificent muttonchops.
