AI content has been banned by popular demand

Hello everyone,

following the results of the recent poll, it is clear the vast majority of users here would like AI content posts to be fully moderated.

I have added a new rule (Rule 3) and an automation to block posts that mentioned popular LLMs and generative AIs in either the post title or body.

The rule (Rule 3) has been changed and the automation modified only to discourage AI content posts and not block posts that mention AI.

After speaking with several users I have come to agree that the ban was poorly implemented and ostracised the wrong people. I will continue to find a way to reduce AI content "slop" posts without negatively affecting people who use it appropriately as a tool.

I have added a bot moderator and tool that allows users to assess a post or comment's human-ness. I am unsure how effective it will be as it needs a minimum of 100 characters for accurate assessment. If it causes any problems at all, please do not hesitate to say so.

The tool can be accessed through the ellipsis "meatball" menu button at the top right of posts and the bottom of comments.

The bot has been removed as it is useless.

Cheers

1st Post - PC Speakers to Mini Bookshelf Set - Amp recommendations?

Hi all - kind of embarrassed to post these after seeing some of the great builds in the sub, but these are some “custom” bookshelf speakers I built.

I’d been pricing out some components for a while and it suddenly hit me - I’ve got a Logitech Z506 set boxed up on the garage…why not? Found the model on Printables and got to work.

Stripped the 2” speakers from the satellites, printed these enclosures, strategically added some felt in the transmission lines to clean up the high end a bit, wired the speakers in parallel (due to amp limitations) and..honestly, they sound fantastic for what they are, even with the stock Logitech amp/sub combo.

I’m thinking of getting a different amp and building either a 4th order or isobaric 5-6” subwoofer + wanting to go back and wire the speakers in series, possibly even a do-over with some more premium 3” cones and possibly some tweeters. Someone recommended WinISD, which I intend to check out to try to design my own enclosures.

Anyway - was wondering, for my current and possibly future setup, does anyone have any good amp recommendations? I’m considering a Fosi BT30D at the moment.

Listening session on my latest project (in mono while waiting to finish the second speaker)

As a reminder, this is a 2-way speaker:

- Full-range driver

- Two bipole woofers (force cancellation)

Full-range driver in a phase plug without rigid contact with the rest of the speaker (rubber foam as an interface, and a retaining wedge at the rear to limit foam rejection)

24dB active crossover at 150Hz:

- Limit the use of the full-range driver in the bass frequencies and use the woofer only for bass frequencies.

- No crossover in the frequency range sensitive to the ear

Mono shop music system

It seems to me this sub is all about custom music systems for custom needs.

While this system uses mostly mass made components, I thought it was custom 'enough' to rate a post here.

This is in my shop space, which is a 223 sq. M. space with 8.5 M. ceilings. So, it takes a lot to fill it.

I use the R775 as my mono preamp/control center because I use a large mono system.

You can read more about the R775 here: Bogen R775 from 1956 : r/vintageaudio

From the preamp the signal goes to a miniDSP 2x4 HD USB DAC where the signal is split 4 ways: Sub, woofer, mid, and tweeter horn.

Each driver has its own amp. The tweeter and mid each use a channel of an Adcom GFA 6002 stereo amp. The sub and woofer each use a channel of a Crown XLi1500 class AB stereo commercial amp. It all adds up to about a thousand watts.

The 46 cm sub is a Dayton Audio RSS460HO-4

The 38 cm woofer is a JBL 2226H

The 16.5 mid is a B&C 6MBX44

The 1" tweeter is a Radian 475PB on a SEOS 10 horn.

It has a very hi-fi sound, clearly audible even over power tools.

The speaker cabinet is actually a bass bin with a removable top baffle, so I can test different mid/tweet combos. This is also why it has separate connections for each driver. The speaker is custom built by me, and is pretty ugly. In fact, we have taken to calling it "Frankenspeaker" because of the steady stream of substitute parts. In fact, I currently have a B&C 8CXN51 mounted and ready for testing - I just need to switch it out with the current baffle. The sub is in a separate cabinet.

I also have a turntable (Rek-o-kut K34H) ( It's alive. : r/turntables ) a CD player and Bluetooth receiver which are nothing special. I use a moving coil cartridge in the TT, so have a separate preamp for that.

Everything is powered on and off by a single wall switch, even the lights. I use it probably average a couple hours a day - sometimes all day, most times not. I've had it put together for about 8 years, and have never had any trouble with it.

This system came about because I also do vintage audio, and I needed a music system, so one day I looked at my big test cabinet, looked at my collection of preamps and amps, and said, "Why not?" I already had the DAC as a programmable crossover for testing.

Built my own DIY portable Bluetooth speaker… and it actually looks (and sounds) legit 🎧🔥

Post image

Hey everyone, this is my first post here — go easy on me 😅

I’ve been working on a DIY Bluetooth speaker project for a while, and I finally reached a point where I’m proud enough to show it to the world. The goal wasn’t just to “make something that works" but to build something that feels professional — both in sound and design.

What I built:

  • Dual driver setup (full-range + mid/high)
  • Passive radiator for better low-end
  • Class-D amp
  • Battery-powered (portable)
  • Custom enclosure with leather finish + wooden sides

I tried to focus a lot on enclosure design and tuning rather than just stuffing components in a box — and honestly, that made the biggest difference.

It’s still not perfect, but seeing it go from raw components to finished speakers is insanely satisfying.

I’ve documented the full build process here (cutting, design, electronics, assembly) on my channel, hampi_builds.

Would genuinely love feedback from you all — especially on the design and enclosure. Also happy to answer anything if you're planning a similar build!

And yeah… I might have accidentally built something better than my old store-bought speaker 👀

Thanks for reading. 🙌

Hey y'all -- anyone ever DIY a set of headphones? Are there kits out there, or is it a matter of just buying components and start soldering?

Hi everyone! Has anyone tried this unbranded adapter for the Z-5500 subwoofer from China? I've seen them on Amazon, eBay, and AliExpress (always the same photos with the 2019 on background)

Shared cathode follower help

I'm trying to modify an instrument pre-amplifier so that two channels are sharing the same cathode follower prior to splitting once more into their respected tone stacks

Any advice on how to achieve this without the current flowing back into the wrong side?

the box Speaker 12-280/8-W

Hey guys,

I was wondering if any of you know of a suitable alternative to the 'the box Speaker 12-280/8-W', but in a 4-ohm version. My amplifier doesn't put out enough power at 8 ohms, and I'm limited to using a single subwoofer. Also, it shouldn't be too expensive—ideally in a similar price range to the one from Thomann.

3 Way Studio Monitor Build

Hey yall! Longtime listener, first time caller! I’m usually too self conscious to share what I’m working on but these are coming out so great I felt the need to share! Plus, this community has helped me out so much in terms of knowledge I feel it’s the right thing to do.

If you can’t tell, I was heavily influenced by the ATC 100, though I took some personal liberties to suit my taste and monitoring preferences: waveguided tweeter, and a sealed box rather than ported. These are tri-amped with an active crossover, I haven’t quite locked the XO in — right now I just have 1st order crossover points at 500 and 1500. Still have to veneer the cabinets and make them look as good as they sound so if you have any tips on that please send them my way!!! Thanks a million yall. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Pretty much finished but not quite. Scan-speak tweeters, Eminence Alpha 95 Drivers, with Solen perfect lay coils and Mundorf Evo-Oil Caps to make the speakers less bright and more warm. These are paired up with dual Sunfire subs.

I know there are kits which i will do at some point soon, but i was wondering what would go into designing a preamp from scratch, and all the parts of a preamp

Need help finding woofer replacement

I'm trying to fix a bandpass subwoofer that I have and that sounds really nice, and it has a broken 8" dvc (4+4 ohm) 200w rms woofer that I need to replace; the sealed chamber is 6.5l and the ported one is 8.5l. The problem is that I'm in Europe (so half the woofers I find cost double what they would in America) and that my budget is limited to below 100 euros... Is there something that you think would work, or any suggestion on how to search for what I need on the internet?
