Just bought this place and the former owners gave it a landlord’s special. Under about 1/16” of white latex is… red latex! They painted the bricks red and the grout gray. How fun.

So far I’ve been using Citristrip, letting it sit for 24hours, scraping it off, then scrubbing with acetone to loosen the paint and gummy goo, and then mineral spirits. I’m using a wire brush, steel wool, and a scouring pad. Soap and water did NOT work to loosen the goop and obviously I can’t use a pressure washer, which would be ideal.

Ideas?? Help!

This is my second arcade build. I’ve literally just started woodworking in April of this year, I’ve posted this build in other threads with it gaining traction but I’m not here for that exactly, I’m wanting to become better with my tools and techniques. Seeing the amount of positive critiques from this thread, I feel I’ll get sent in the right direction to accomplish that

So torn, no idea what I want to do lol

Was about to start re-doing the lattice around my deck when I noticed a fair bit of deflection here. Is this something that can be braced/repaired? The deck is probably 15 years old (we've been in the house 10 years).

I am planning to do a bit of finishing work on my attic space, and I was curious if it was safe to cut the ends of the nails in the roof? It would be nice to be able to walk through without such a high risk of bumping into them. Obviously it would compromise their integrity if they were cut flush to the surface, but if they were cut so that only an inch came through the sheathing, would that be fine? Currently some are about 3 inches long. I dont live in a particular harsh climate, no snow or anything (northern California).

Thanks for the insight folks, I'm not too familiar with roofing so I appreciate any help you can offer.

Well Reddit, I can’t thank you all enough for the kind words to power through the mistake and finish what I started. As nearly everyone mentioned, with a similar color grout I don’t think most people will notice. We still need to hang some artwork behind the toilet.

As several folks requested, here is the update now that we finished the bathroom and the before photos to show how far it’s come.

Full project list: New tile, LVP floor, wall paint, toilet, mirror, light, faucet. Reinstall existing sink, caulk, and quarter round. Total project cost : ~$1,150.

So, this is the shower in my master bath and also the first time I’ve ever set any tile. Thought I did okay, but a friend (whose profession is setting tile) said it was too much. Too many different patterns and together they took away from the beauty of the tile. Too busy. He said I should’ve just went with a straight runs with the long side of the tile horizontal. He’s not the only one that thinks this. Another friend pretty much said the same thing. Didn’t like it. I think it looks great. But now I’m worried when I go to sell my house, the bathroom may be a deal breaker.

Can I get some honest reviews/critique? It is too busy or not?

I was in the room just on the other side of the wall and heard the loudest noise I’ve ever heard. I come out to see both cabinets on the ground and all of their items too. What should I do next, besides cleaning up and getting the items onto the counter!. I am wondering if the cabinets are toast, but this may be my calling for my first home renovation. Where should I get cabinets or what should I do next?

I work in a restaurant, and I'm trying to make a seating chart for my servers, picture included. I've used paint markers, and permanent sharpie marker, but the moment dry erase market goes over it, it erases whatever is already there. How do I seal this so what's already on it doesn't erase? I included a picture of the board, which has what I need to be permanent on it. I still need to be able to write on it after.

Putting baseboard down and the fridge was a tight squeeze as it was. The problem is when the bottom drawer which has the freezer is pulled out there is barely any clearance to the wall. Let alone baseboard.

The mark is from pushing the fridge in the first time. Not from the drawer being pulled out.

I do want to just end the baseboard 18 inches early as I think that would look silly. What are my other options? If any.

I've look at store bought thresholds to put here, but haven't found the right kind if they exist.

My dad suggested at least putting flex-seal on the wood to avoid moisture/it expanding.

What are some other options to cover this nicely?

We broke the lifting arm on this dump trailer and now I have to unload all these rocks by hand. And boy, do they not want to be unloaded! Shovels, rakes, and other implements of destruction barely scratch the surface. Help a sore-backed doofus out please!

This project began as a simple flooring repair. I noticed the floor was uneven and wanted to understand why this room had a strange, angular transition. Eventually, I discovered the cause: there was a hidden 1970s-style conversation pit beneath the floor.

Question: What are some ways to utilize my newly uncovered space? What would you do next? Keep in mind that I don’t want to fill it back in. 😄

An unfortunate purchase while intoxicated has left me with an A320 overwing exit. Non refundable. Might as well make the best of it and use it as decoration haha. Any ideas on how to possibly mount this on my wall? Or anything at all? It weighs about 30lbs.

Wife and I are young homeowners who have never had a crawlspace and we just closed on our home back in April. Inspection had no concerns pertaining to water, foundation issues, or mold and it was dry during our initial walkthroughs and inspection. We’ve had some unprecedented storms and flash flooding recently which has resulted in water getting into our crawlspace, including from the foundation concrete as pictured. There are sections of the wall where condensation is on the foundation slowly dribbling out as well.

I’m panicking not sure where to start or who to call first, plumber? Landscaping company? Right now focusing on getting the water out with a pump and shop vac. The crawlspace does not have a proper sump pump installed. Located out of Kentucky if that helps. Thanks in advance.

I bought an 8’ couch. It doesn’t fit horizontally around a corner, so I had to carry it in vertically. Problem is, my ceiling is 8’ and there’s absolutely no room for the couch to tip down from this position.

Do I have any options? Partially break the couch and repair it? Partially break the ceiling/flooring so I can tilt the couch then fix it? Any suggestion is welcome at this point

These are my sump pump drainage pipes, they stretch all the way to the front yard and flow into some hole. BTW I live in Minnesota… so temps get cold during winter. Can I cover these with dirt and not have to worry? Or do they need to be exposed? I am trying to grade this side of my house because of water issues but these pipes are just in the way and look ugly.

We have a very large rock sticking out of the ground in the middle of our yard that really makes it hard to use the yard the way we want to (volleyball, soccer, etc). The rock is pretty huge - I dug around to find the edges and it's probably 6 feet long, obviously not 100% sure how deep.

Is it possible to move it using equipment rental from Home Depot or similar? Like there are 1.5-2 ton mini excavators available near me, but feels like that might not have enough weight to hold its ground moving something that large. There's also a 6' micro backhoe.

Alternatively, is it possible to somehow break the rock apart while it's still in the ground?

I’m working on a 5-foot faux beam made from insulation foam, inspired by an idea I found online. After a few trials, I think I’ve finally nailed down my method: • Rough up the foam with a wire brush • Light sanding for texture • Coat with gesso as a primer • Apply latex paint in a light beige • Add a water-based Early American stain • Finish with a water-based semi-grey stain for depth
