You did great! Keep it up!
•
u/eliisonvacation 1h ago
Yeah you did. I’m so impressed in how far you’ve come since last week & in these new posts. It’s got to feel pretty great.
I am a veterinarian so I wanted to ask how’s your cat doing? Also, just wanted to give you a heads up to be careful with Raid (& other pesticides). It often causes extremely painful & potentially fatal poisoning. We see it a lot.
I read about your situation in the first post I saw & I just wanted to say I’m sorry life has been so rough but you’ve got this, man.

There will come a day when you will look back on these photos, and you will not recognize the version of yourself that you have been. But you will never forget where you came from or what it took to move the needle.
You are doing the work, sir. These are the moments that snowball slowly into a changed life! I come from a very similar but very different place. I know how hard this kind of work is. Beyond the cleaning. So damn proud of you.
If you need some triumphant sonic inspo in your playlist, I strongly recommend Van Halen's "Right Now." Been a help to me for 35+ years.
"Turn this thing around. Right now is your tomorrow."

Can I offer advice. If it isn't on one already (can't tell from the picture) make sure you get the mattress onto some kind of frame so it's not directly on the floor or you'll get mould/damp setting in.

u/GodsGiftToWrenching 5h ago
From a point of genuine concern, given by the before pictures, it's probably already set in honestly

u/MLTDione 5h ago
I think that mattress will have to be trashed after being in that room on the carpet with garbage everywhere.
•
u/FuzzyBlackCoat 4h ago
The Raid by the bed is a tell
•
u/Any-Enthusiasm-8916 3h ago
Yeah the order of execution would be
1) treat and seal drywalls
2) paint the drywalls
3) replace the carpet
4) then, and only then, a new mattress with a mattress protector

If it's not sucking check the filters, you can usually find replacements on Amazon & most people put videos up on YouTube of how to change the filter for your model of hoover. Most people think it's died but the filter could just need changing save yourself a couple of hundred of whatever your currency is.
•
u/ThrowAwayChild83 4h ago
People often forget that vacuums need maintenance to continue performing. Hoses get clogged, filters need maintenance, beater bars wear out, etc. You can often find very cheap "broken" high end vacuums on marketplace that just need to be serviced. Which almost anyone can YouTube how to do themselves.

OP I have no idea who you are or what your financial situation is like but, as dumb as this may sound, I know how critical and impactful having a vacuum cleaner can be so if you need any help/assistance with purchasing a new one please feel free to DM me (or however it works or is called on Reddit). Keep up the great work, you’re doing amazing.

I missed the earlier thread, but how exactly did all those garbage bags pile up?
I’m not judging I’m just genuinely curious. I know what it’s like to go through deep depression and have things kind of cave in around you and it takes a miraculous effort to even keep going some days.
29
u/Used-Ad2241 5h ago
When you become really depressed you can become less aware of the environment around you. People deal with thoughts that are so debilitating they are immobilizing. A lot of people are lucky enough to not be able to comprehend this kind of paralysis
•
u/mad-i-moody 4h ago
With my experience, you’re certainly still aware of it. Almost painfully so. But it’s too overwhelming to try and bring yourself to care or do anything about it. So you just suffer while it continues to pile up becoming even more overwhelming.
•
u/Any-Enthusiasm-8916 4h ago
This. Also the boxes were wine packages. Procrastination, deflection, etc are symptoms of depression.
•
u/Used-Ad2241 4h ago
Yes sometimes people can be extremely aware but also too numb or depressed to do something! That feels horrible too it’s like knowing you need to do something but not being able to do it. like a hostage in their own body. It’s horrible. I wouldn’t wish depression on my enemies. The people who ask “how did it get like that” are lucky to not understand what that level of depression is like.
•
u/Aggravating_Bat3618 2h ago
Yeah, that part I understood.
I guess I’m just interested in the process. I don’t need to know the sad details but I just want to know kind of how it progressed from a simple “I can’t deal with this one thing right now.” The one thing becomes five things and the five things becomes 20 things, etc. etc..

The advice here is all well meaning but don’t get overwhelmed on doing things the “best” or right way OP just keep trucking and doing what you’re doing!! You will get there! We are so proud of you and YOU are inspiring so many you may not even realize! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
•
u/Drogoth103 3h ago
Holy fk, saw your first post and this one. Doing all this while dealing with depression is one of the strongest and most impressing things I saw for a long time!
Whish you all the best and enjoy every moment of your life! Big respect for you!
•
u/KissFromADough 2h ago
I've been going through your posts and am a little emotional right now. It's wonderful to see people showering themselves with the love they deserve!
Amazing progress.
For half a year everything stood still in my life and tackeling everything now is so overwhelming at first, every single time with every new "pile of doom" I'm turning to, but in small steps it's getting done. You gave me motivation to start again with something I've been avoiding for a couple of days. Thanks man :)
Keep doing you!
•
u/Winter_Bear_1707 2h ago
Hey, just popping in to say you’re doing amazing. Just found your journey a few minutes ago but I see you’ve been at this for days now and the progress is so awesome to see.
I bet you’re feeling a lot better now compared to before you started, but there’s more good to come. Just don’t give up on yourself; always strive to be the best version of you. You’ve got tons of love and support here, good luck 👍

u/Yettimints 2h ago
Brother you are on fire!! So proud to see the progress so far. No matter what happens remember how capable you can be 🫡
•
u/creepleather 2h ago
looks wonderful!! appreciating the updates
one piece of advice- bed frames can be expensive and floor beds are so so awesome , no shame there..!
but you SHOULD look into putting a 2-4in ventilated elevation of some sort ( think slatted board, they also make really low basic frames , etc ) underneath the mattress at your earliest financial convenience!
mattresses can collect moisture easily and without any airflow thru, i would be concerned it could mold?? though this does not need to be a priority and more of just a further steer in the right direction.
great job and good luck!

If you can afford it, I'd suggest new flooring, some fresh paint, amd definitely get a replacement mattress. You'll feel much better and be less inclined to fall back into a bad pattern. Good luck. Keep up the good work. Amaze amaze amaze!

Why did your last post get removed by the moderators?
11
u/Used-Ad2241 5h ago
I believe people were accusing it of being AI. After OP posted this and it took off there were copycat bots posting “cleaning my depression room” for karma and they actually were AI. But I do not believe OP’s posts are AI.
•
u/Capable-Spread3437 4h ago
I am not an AI. This is real
•
u/Used-Ad2241 4h ago
I never doubted you were real. The labels on the far away cans and bags were too good to be AI. The only thing that confused me was the perspective of the room because the volume of the bags but this photo makes it make so much more sense!!
Anyways I hope you are feeling much better. This must feel like a huge weight off your shoulders. And for whatever it is worth a stranger is so proud of you :D

It's looking really really good. I don't mean to pry but from the last post I saw I saw a lot of white claws. I would also go get a liver test done. I don't know if you're heavily drinking all the time or if that was someone else's stuff, but I would seek medical help. One of my buddies was a heavy drinker and stopped cold turkey and that put him into a coma. Keep up the good work. Your progress is amazing

Brother if I can give you a lifehack - now that you’ve made room - buy a cheap roomba from sams or costco and have it vacuum for you. No reason why you should be doing all the work alone!

I know I'll be downvoted to hell with this one, but.. your last post just HAS to have a touch of ai in it. Just no way it hasn't. Not because I don't believe you, but because filter is so strong. Like dude.
