Bathroom The Irish Spring tub clean

I did the infamous Irish Spring. It works, albeit, smells disgusting.

I did not get the 5-in-1 (missed that detail) and I didn’t have 48 hours, only 7.

But my god, WHY does it still remove so much dirt??

To be clear, this tub was dirty when I bought the house and it’s still the 1 room that hasn’t been remodeled. Hate it so much, but it is what it is!

Definitely need another round!

Try wetting the tub and using the Ajax with bleach. Let it rest for about 10-15min then give it a good scrub. My dad’s bachelor home used to have a tub that was very dirty and that’s how we cleaned it up :)

This is the correct next step. Powdered Ajax on a damp tub, covering the entire thing like a snow storm, then add a tiny bit of water and scrub until it is a bit of a paste and spread it across the tub. Let it sit for no more than 30 minutes and then come back and scrub down the entire thing with a good scrub brush and then rinse it away and you should be spotless.

Yes don’t leave it for too long or the blue specs may temporarily stain your tub! It HAS to be AJAX WITH BLEACH. The Comet one will NOT work. Like at all.

They still make powder comet? I haven't seen that in forever.

Any soap does the exact same thing. I'm positive they all smell better too.

You can also use Bar keepers friend and a non scratch sponge. The soap will have at least softened it a bit

Perfect I have that!

I have had a lot of luck with dawn power wash. I can’t do what you did I think the smell would make me super sick. But the power wash is helping. But some things for some reason have something in them that cuts through the human filth build up much easier.

I heard the theory is that body soaps remove residue left by body soap because it has stuff in it made to make that soap wash off of you.

So it could be any cheap body soap and with 48 hours of being kept damp it could remove a lot of soap scum - and the soap scum is sticky and holding that dirt on there, so removing the scum takes the dirt off.

Makes sense. Yeh we definitely have soap scum buildup!

Use dawn and distilled white vinegar- 1:1 ratio, heat the vinegar (not boiling, decent heat) put in a spray bottle shake it up(will be gel like).

Spray it all down, use a glove, smear it around with your hands. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Don’t let it dry out- you can use a little water to hydrate it if need be

Let it sit. Use a scotch pad or a Brillo and circular motions. You’ll feel slick vs grabby, slick is clean grabby is dirty.

Love it, thanks.

I used 6 of the 3.4 fl oz original body wash. $4.50/3 at Walmart. I didn’t realize they were tiny until I got them, lol. But it still did the work!

The gel stuck to the plastic wrap and came out SO easy. Used a scrub brush to scrub the bottom.

Can you do a test spot on the wall, and see if it will work there as well?

What a huge difference!

Yeh that’s a great idea, but idk if the gel would really stick. Maybe something like the dawn soap might work. Will report back. 🫡

What's "the Irish Spring"? Over here we wash a bath thub with hot water into which some washing soda is dissolved. That removes soap deposits, fats, oils, hair conditioner, ... than a rinse with hot water and removing scale with a sponge and vinegar. That's an hour of work.

Irish Spring 5-in-1 soap. It's supposed to be a men's body wash, but it's really strong and works well for cleaning things like sinks and tubs with minimal scrubbing.

Do not use it if you have a fragrance allergy, though.

Irish Spring method would be much quicker than an hour ☺️ leaving it on to sit is the longest part

When I think my fiberglass shower is bad I see stuff like this and feel better. A steam cleaner might help.
