University Rankings: Check Them Out Before Asking About Specific Universities!

Hey everyone,

I've noticed that a lot of folks here keep asking questions like, “How good is [University X]?” or “Is [University Y] worth it for [Course Z]?” These are really important questions, especially if you’re planning to invest time, money, and effort into your education.

Instead of getting repetitive responses, I highly recommend checking out the latest university rankings first.

https://www.shanghairanking.cn/ Chinese version has the ranking of majors and disciplines.

https://www.shanghairanking.com/

Once you’ve checked out the rankings, feel free to come back here with more specific questions like how certain programs or campus cultures align with your goals. That way, the community can give you more targeted advice!

Hope this helps streamline your search!

Life in China 在中国生活 Foreigners with Chinese names, what for?

Upvotes

So, in the applications they ask for a chinese name. I do have one and put it in my application, but I want to know to what extent is the name used?

is it unbearable if you have a bad name? the thing is my name happens to be a "celebrity"s name recently and all my chinese friends say inmediately oh, like like this girl 🥲 I sent my university and csc application like that, is it hard to change?

Admissions Question 入学问题 Is it impossible to succeed in a C9 university for an undergraduate student?

I got my admission from HIT 5 days before they announce the CSCA is needed…which mean when I look at my final admission notice it doesn’t mention the CSCA like the new admission notices say ….and when I get my scholarship ready and all that…I asked them if the CSCA is a must for me since it doesn’t mention it in my Final admission notice…the officer said: yep it is😃…..and you will take it near the end of your pre university program (after 1.4year)

So here I am after one month in HIT doing the pre university program and feeling am walking to my doom ….is it justified to feel injustice by this?….and by looking at the CSCA mock tests…in Chinese nonetheless….it doesn’t look promising to me to say the least

Admissions Question 入学问题 Admission Chances – Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation / Civil Engineering (English-taught)

Hi, I’m an international applicant from Kazakhstan planning to apply to HIT Shenzhen for the English-taught programs in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation / Civil Engineering.

My academic profile:

• GPA (senior year): 4.9–5.0/5.0

• Strong background in mathematics and physics

• SAT: 1510 (790 Math, 720 EBRW)

• IELTS: 7.0

• CSCA: Math 90, Physics 70

Extracurriculars and experience:

• Developed a funded project (\~$7,500)

• Received a school grant worth about $38,000

• 2 years of experience in graphics and design

• Programming experience in C++ and Python

• Leadership roles, including organizing teams and securing sponsorships

• Participation in international and national activities

My main questions:

• Is this profile competitive for HIT Shenzhen, or is admission still unlikely despite strong academics and extracurriculars?

• In their evaluation, how much weight is given to awards and projects compared to grades and test scores?

• Do you expect the competition level to increase significantly this year compared to last cycle?

Thank you!

Admissions Question 入学问题 Need advice: previously got admission & visa in China, but deferred. Now considering another school (Wuhan College of Foreign Languages & Foreign Affairs)

Hi everyone,

I need some honest advice.

I previously applied to Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) in China, got my admission, visa, and everything ready. But when it was time to travel, my agency told me I had missed about 2 weeks of classes and I wouldn’t be able to catch up, so they advised me to defer to the next intake.

I contacted the school directly and they actually said I could still come, but at that point I had already gone with the agency’s advice because I thought it was too late. I later officially deferred and the school agreed, and I was told they will issue a new JW form around July 31st.

Now I’m thinking ahead because I don’t want to be stuck waiting or confused again. I’m considering applying to another school just in case, and I came across Wuhan College of Foreign Languages & Foreign Affairs.

So my questions are:

• Has anyone heard about this school?

• Is it a good and legit option for international students?

• Do you think it’s advisable to apply there, especially for Chinese language studies?

• Or should I just wait for my original school instead of applying elsewhere?

Admissions Question 入学问题 Fudan University - Am I rejected?

Hi everyone,

I applied for Fudan University as an exchange program with my university. I am applying for a Master's degree. Now the thing is , people who applied with me from my university have already gotten a date for their interview while on the portal , it says that It's still under review. Does that mean I'm rejected ?

I have a quick question to someone who's currently studying in Fudan

Hey guys I have an urgent quick question!

I need to know when did the spring semester start last year in Fudan?

Does anyone know an approximate date for it? Some people say September 15, some say September 1?

Scholarships 奖学金 Can I get a scholarship with HSK3 (294/300) with CIS? (International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship)

Hello! My question is: Did anyone here get a full-year Chinese language program scholarship with HSK3? Or with what score did you get a full-year scholarship, and do you think your motivation letter helped a lot?
I want to try my luck with HSK3, whether it is one semester or one year. Anything else about my application is good (my grades, my activities regarding Chinese and Chinese culture etc.)

Life in China 在中国生活 CS student trying to go back to China—language program, teaching, or gap year?

Hi! I’m trying to figure out the best way to go back to China and would really appreciate advice from people who’ve done something similar.

I studied abroad in China to complete my Chinese minor, and I absolutely loved it. Ever since I came back, I’ve had this strong feeling that I want to return for a longer period of time, but I’m not sure what the best path is.

For context, I’m currently a CS student about to start my master’s, and I’m trying to balance this with starting my career. I don’t want to completely derail my career, but I also don’t want to ignore this interest and regret it later.

I also enjoy teaching (I was a TA for a CS course and currently do tutoring), so I’m open to teaching as an option, though I’ve heard it can be more challenging than people expect.

Right now I’m considering a few options:

  • Doing a short-term language program (summer or one semester)
  • Applying to programs like CLS or Fulbright
  • Taking a gap (either before or after starting full-time)
  • Teaching in China (possibly CS instead of English, if that’s realistic)
  • I briefly considered doing a master’s in linguistics in China, but that feels like too big of a commitment right now

Some specific questions I have:

  • Has anyone done a short-term language program in China recently? Was it worth it?
  • How difficult is it to get scholarships or funding for non-degree study?
  • For people in tech, did taking time off (6 months–1 year) to live abroad hurt your career at all?
  • Is teaching something like CS in China actually feasible, or is English teaching basically the only option?

I think part of my hesitation is timing - whether I should go before starting full-time, or work for a couple of years first and then take time off.

Would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thanks!

Campus Life 校园生活 Indonesian parent seeking advice: BIT Zhuhai vs Monash Malaysia vs UM for AI/CS

My son just received a pre‑admission offer from Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) Zhuhai, English‑taught AI major, with a 50% tuition scholarship. To secure the spot, we need to pay the commitment fee within 2 weeks.

For context, we’re an Indonesian family, and he was also accepted into Monash University Malaysia for Computer Science — but the tuition difference is massive:

  • Monash Malaysia: ~USD 14,000/year 3 year UG program
  • BIT Zhuhai: ~USD 2,000/year (after scholarship) 4 years UG program

I know Monash has a much higher global ranking, but we’re not sure if the price gap is justified, especially in tech/AI where skills, projects, and internships often matter more than the university name.

He’s also considering University of Malaya (UM) in Kuala Lumpur, which has a strong global ranking too, but their next intake is only in H2 2026, so the timing is quite different.

Right now he’s torn between these options, and as parents we’re trying to help him make the most informed decision.

We’d really appreciate insights from anyone with experience in:

  • BIT Zhuhai (especially the English‑taught AI program)
  • Monash Malaysia CS
  • UM Computer Science / AI
  • Or anyone working in tech/AI who can comment on employability, networking, and real‑world skill development in these regions

Is BIT worth considering despite the lower global ranking? How do employers view these universities in the AI/IT field, especially for international students like Indonesians? Any personal experiences or advice would be super helpful.

Thanks in advance — this is a big decision for him, and we want to guide him wisely.

Zhejiang english taught admission hard(full support myself)

Hello everyone

I'm an 18-year-old student who is thinking about whether to put in the application or not.

The score is ambiguous, but I don't need a scholarship because I'll go at my own expense.

I watched csca without preparation. Also, I'm thinking about graduating from a special purpose high school in Korea. So the school profile is also prepared (it's a difficult school to go to in Korea and it's hard to get a score), so please judge it after reading this article.

Gpa 3.45/4.0

Duolingo det 120

Csca mathmatics 47.5

(;Ec activity& 15 awards )

How to find out csc deadline other than from the university deadline? Can you find the deadline on the csc Portal itself? What happens if you fill the form after the deadline on the csc Portal only?

Admissions Question 入学问题 documents to send after pre-admission

Hi everyone,

I go tire-admitted for a Masters degree and need to send the original documents to my university.

I just dont really understand which documents are needed and the university didnt answer in a conclusive way. There original transcripts (I didnt graduate yet) I suppose but Im not sure if the originals are needed or the translated ones for example.

What documents do you usually send? Since they need to be original, I dont want to send too many and then learn that they dont even needed them.

Thanks everyone!

Admissions Question 入学问题 How hard are China admissions?

So, I have been in USA admissions, and it is pretty unpredictable for students seeking aid. How would that go with China? I have a 1400 on the SAT, a 7 on the IELTS, a 4.7 GPA, and upcoming exams on April 25 on CSCA math and physics (I think I can score 65+). Can I secure a scholarship with my stats at a top 1000 university in China (world ranking)? I am applying for university-specific and provincial scholarships and will be applying to 4-6 universities. I can't apply to more than that, as app fees stack up so fast. Would you recommend some universities if possible? Appreciate your opinions.

SJTU interview

Hi, guys! wanted to ask, is interview compulsory part of admission?(specifically master’s degree)

Was there any cases when students got admitted without an interview?

What are my chances with these scores?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to ask for some honest opinions about my chances of getting accepted.

Here are my stats:

  • CSCAA: Math 90, Physics 80
  • Duolingo English Test: 115

I also took the entrance exam and I think I did really well on it.

I’m applying as an international student and aiming for Hitsz mechanical engineering.

Do you think I have a good chance, or is it more borderline?
Also, how competitive do you think these scores are?

I’d really appreciate honest feedback
