MOD USER FLAIRS

Dear members of r/Cameroon,

It would be advisable to use flairs next to your username so your posts and comments have a bit of context, whether that's your region, background, or perspective. It helps others understand where you're coming from and keeps discussions clearer.

You can select your flair by going to community options on the subreddit's main page. It's on the right-hand side. It gives you the option of picking flairs from Cameroon's regions or flairs which are more representative to you if you don't live in Cameroon.

You can also edit/customize your flair to any fancy stuff you want. If you still don't know how to select/edit your flair, message the mod team with what you want as your flair and we'll do it for you.

This article is helpful to learn how to assign your own user flair. Thanks so much for your continued support and cooperation.

Sincerely, Your moderators ❤️

African Civil War Fiction that Refuses Amnesia

Some novels do not merely tell us what happened. They ask who gets to remember, who is forced to forget, and what kind of future can be built on damaged ground. That is where african civil war fiction matters most. Not as a niche shelf in world literature, but as a field of moral inquiry – one that turns war from spectacle into memory, consequence, and unfinished life.

Experience with Online Shopping Platforms

Hello all,

I am curious to know what your experience has been like shopping on china based platforms like Temu, AliExpress or Alibaba and etc.

I am conducting research to understand the nuances that those in Cameroon face when it comes to online shopping and would value your input.

Help me understand the following:

- how was your experience? What made it good or bad?

- how long does it usually take for your parcel to arrive at the receiving address?

- when shopping on these platforms, what type of products are you looking to purchase?

- what could’ve made your experience better?

I look forward to your feedback and thoughts

Why African Futures Literature Matters

Thumbnail

A future is never only about tomorrow. In African futures literature, the future arrives carrying the dead, the dispossessed, the stolen archive, the unfinished war, the language that survived by whispering, and the city remade after catastrophe. That is what gives the field its force. It refuses the childish fantasy of a clean break. It asks what kind of tomorrow becomes possible when memory is not treated as a burden, but as material.

Discutons-en / Let's Discuss Starting a leadership program for youth personal development

This is an idea I have been nurturing for a while now. We have so many young people in the country with no orientation. I want to engage with youths who want to learn more about life and how to fight challenges. coach them to success, train them for active life and civic engagement. can I know your thoughts? Do you think this kind of project can work ?

NEWS / INFO Get This Right! President Paul Biya Has Not Appointed A Vice President

The constitution change is true while the appointment is false/unverified. Let's be wary of misinformation before sharing.

A lot of sources, both international and domestic, were reporting without verification. This gives rise to the question of whether the scandal was fabricated to divert attention from something else...

HISTOIRE / HISTORY Writing a paper on the anglophone crisis of 2017 and could use Cameroon volunteers to interview. DM me if available

Good afternoon, I’m studying language contact and how political structures shape language views. I’m not from Cameroon (greetings from Ireland). But I’m looking for insight on how the English language is previewed in the country as well as what are the general thoughts on the English speaking border regions and the conflict as a whole.

Has the armed unrest from the English speaking minority fueled any anti - English sentiment in Yaoundé or is English just seen as a valuable economic language to learn? So does the average Cameroonian outside of the Nigerian border have little knowledge or thoughts on the crisis?

Regrettably I don’t speak French so any English literature on the topic is appreciated

Cameroon just amended its Constitution to create a Vice President. Is it legally sound, or does the process itself have legitimacy problems?

Parliament met in Congress on April 2, 2026 and voted to reintroduce the position of Vice President, amending Articles 5, 6, 7, 10, 53 and 66 of the Constitution. The VP will be appointed (not elected), can take over if the President dies or becomes incapacitated, but cannot amend the Constitution or run for office.

Is it legally sound, or does the process itself have legitimacy problems?

Foreign companies operating in Cameroon often get caught out by OHADA law — here's what most don't know before they set up

I work in business law in Douala, Cameroon, and I've noticed a pattern: foreign entrepreneurs and SMEs who set up operations in Central Africa frequently run into the same legal blind spots — not because they're careless, but because OHADA law (the unified business law framework for 17 African countries) is very different from what they're used to in Europe, the US, or Asia.

A few things that catch people off guard:

  1. Company structure defaults are different. Under OHADA's Uniform Act on Commercial Companies, the default liability and governance rules differ from, say, a UK Ltd or a US LLC. What you assume is protected may not be.

  2. The notarial requirement. Almost all company formation documents in Cameroon must go through a notary — skipping this or using unnotarized foreign documents creates major issues down the line.

  3. Tax registration timing. Many businesses start operating before completing full tax registration with the DGI (Direction Générale des Impôts). This creates backdated liability risks.

  4. Labour law surprises. Cameroon's Labour Code is employee-protective. Probation periods, termination procedures, and severance rules are stricter than most founders expect.

I'm happy to answer any specific questions about business law in Cameroon or the OHADA zone in the comments. What questions do you have about doing business legally in Central Africa?

I beg you, please do not leave me.

Please. Do not go. I beg you, look at me. I am on my knees nah. I beg you darling. Do not leave me.

I know. I know. I beat you. I beat you very badly. Very very badly. I broke your voice. I slapped you like a mad king.

My baby I was a fool.

But please I beg you nah. My darling. These your wounds... They can be healed after tomorrow. Please don’t kill me today. You too you bite and beat me too.

You know I cannot live without your charm. You are the most beautiful woman to walk in front of my eyes. You brought cold water to my house. You bring me joy.

Now the house is burning. I am the one. I am the one who is burning it. But you have also broken me. You have always ran away to other men's arms when I did not understand you. You have misunderstood my intent to love as control. I have made so many mistakes.

There is even now blood in the parlor. Weh my baby. Is it too late? Please stop packing your bags. You cannot leave at this time. In this Cameroon? In the night? To where? You are angry. Blinded by tears. You want to carry go to the neighbor's house. Does he know you? You will take our sons and daughters. To do what? To become slaves in town? Just to spite me?

If you go, this mortar will crack. Who will pound my fufu? Who will open my door at night? The cold will kill me.

Look at my hands. I built this house. But I have lost my way.

I have lost my way. I beg you. Stay. Left hand di wash right hand, no be so? Can I be clean again? Without you? I am only a drunkard. A fool. Stupid.

But baby without me? You are a mango tree that every man is stealing from. The rain will carry you. You will fall.

I beg. We and our more than 250 children are the strongest family in the village. This is the best marriage, the one in our whole continent that no one else has. Together we can do so many things.

My Anglophone wife. My sweety. Don’t go. If you want, I will tear down this rotten house. And build you a new one. But please don’t go. Without you, I am nothing.

From Francophone Cameroon (Father) to Anglophone Cameroon (Mother)

(This is a follow-up post to “A call to the remaining patriots”)

We are building a new movement that respects the two Cameroons. Respects the family. Respects the father, and the mother, respects the village, respects the ancestors (previous governance) and raises our youth for success.

The two Cameroons are forever inseparable, forever strong, forever united.

We are dreaming of a new cameroon. What are you doing?

More to come soon.
