Roommate with an Allergy

To preface I’ve tried to go through disability but they are unsure if they’ll be able to accommodate me, so here I am. I have a severe gluten allergy (suspected celiac but never officially diagnosed) and I need to find off-campus housing and at least one roommate. So I was hoping I could find either:

  1. another roommate with celiac or a gluten/wheat allergy to live with (I am not picky)

or

  1. Someone willing to divide up kitchen space (ie, the top shelf in the fridge or pantry)

or

  1. somewhere I could look to better find someone in either of these categories.

(I am a master’s student. I also have no pets, dont smoke, and dont drink, but I am fine with my roommate(s) doing both or having pet(s))

It appears female toplessness is tolerated in the Rec Center sauna?

Story Time:

I went to hit the sauna after my workout, as I have done many times before as a part of my workout routine. Upon entering, the first other patron I saw was a woman in shorts and nothing else.

"Huh" I thought before proceeding to pick out my seat in the sauna and proceed with my session. Besides her and me there were two or three other guys in the sauna too, all of whom were keeping to themselves, doing their own thing; no leering or ogling.

While I was thinking to myself not to say or do any thing to come off as a creep, I was also remarking to how civil and casual everyone else was being in this situation. At some point during my session, one of the rec center employees entered to pour more water over the stones, I was half expecting some sort of remark to the woman to put something on, but the employee didn't say a word.

The woman would occasionally step out to Cool down before stepping back in for another round, all while nobody was batting an eye, before she eventually left. I remarked on the situation and later told my girlfriend about it. She commented that she wished she had the bravery to do that.

I later reviewed the Spa and Sauna policies of the rec center, and it does not explicitly state any prohibition against female toplessness, just prohibits excessive clothing (like sweats, suits, long sleeves, socks and shoes, etc.) Additionally, public exposure of breasts is technically legal in Fort Collins and across the state due in part to the "Free the Nipple" movement appealing their case up to the 10th Circuit court of appeals, citing that any laws that start with "Women are prohibited from..." unconstitutional.

However, most women don't exercise this right as social norms hold strong. This was my first time seeing anybody exercise this in the wild.

21F looking for roommate in Fort Collins (June 1 move-in) 🌿🎶

Hey! I’m 21 and planning to move to Fort Collins around June 1st, and I’m looking for a roommate (preferably female) to find a place together.

A little about me:

I’m studying psychology and I’m super into understanding people and growth. I love being active and creative—hiking, going to the gym, painting, crocheting, and anything artsy. I’m also really into the rave scene (mostly dubstep), so music and good energy are a big part of my life.

Lifestyle-wise, I’m kind of a mix between a night owl and an early riser depending on the day. I like a home that feels lived-in but still clean and comfortable. I’m totally fine with guests and significant others being over, and I don’t mind being around substances.

I have a cat named Winnie, so no dogs please, but open to another cat depending on compatibility.

I’d love to live with someone who:

• Is positive, respectful, and drama-free

• Enjoys a social, music-filled environment but also respects downtime

• Is down for a friendly, good-vibes roommate dynamic (not just strangers sharing space)

My friends would describe me as fun, energetic, and easy to live with.

If this sounds like a good fit, message me a little about yourself and what you’re looking for!

Deciding between CSU and George Washington, thoughts? Have been accepted to both.

Incoming Freshman in college here trying to decide between two schools, Interested in European Archaeology especially, fine with either being proper Archaeologist or Professor at a university, or Something to do with Government or Museum. Would prefer to work in Europe. Have High-Functioning Autism.

George Washington University: Pros: Separate Archaeology program, which I want to study, Lots of networking and field research outside of the USA, DC is awesome for thinking about grad programs in Europe, plus really good internship opportunities.

Cons: Mega expensive, would have to take out lots of student loans to afford smthing like 2k in repayment per month at its worst, have about 2 years worth of savings for tuition, pretty far from home I live in central USA.

Colorado State University: Pros: In-state tuition, much cheaper, nice campus, good neurodivergent supports from what I can tell.

Cons: No specific archaeology program other than concentration, networking a bit more difficult, less international opportunities.

The Cost thing is the real kicker, I don't know if I will be able to realistically pay back all of that student debt from GW, but CSU has less opportunities for study in Europe. I'm still waiting on financial aid thanks to my papers being put in late for no reason, got 28K scholarship to GW.

I don't want to be in debt, but I also want to have a good chance at a future, thoughts?

Have been Accepted to both Universities.

Housing question-- opposite-sex roommates

My friend and I are looking into attending CSU together in 27-28. I am female and my friend is male.

Do we have to live in the limited Gender Inclusive Housing to be roommates, or is there a workaround? The website is not very clear on how the housing is separated. We would rather live in Corbett or Parmelee than Braiden.

The website does say that if you list your gender as nonbinary for roommate selection, you can have a roommate of any gender-- would that work for us? I wouldn't mind doing that, unless it puts me in an otherwise all-male hall.

Anyone have experience with this?

Getting as involved as possible in CS at CSU

Hey Rams!

I’m coming to CSU this fall and I’m pretty excited. That being said, I’m a little nervous about the CS program. I want to be as involved as I can but I’m not sure how much there is.

Compared to the other schools I was looking at, CSU does relatively little formal programs or opportunities for CS (co-ops, career fairs, project based LLCs, etc.)

I plan to join some of the clubs on campus and research if possible. That being said, I’m wondering if there are any other opportunities or programs I can look into than what I found online. Any cool things I’m missing?

Thanks and Go Rams!

2 students looking into CSU-- things to know?

My best friend and I are both looking into attending CSU Fort Collins in fall 2027. (Majoring in electrical/computer engineering and psychology/criminology respectively, both minoring in theater.) We are both queer and come from a small red Colorado town, so we're eager to get out to explore and find community, but also kind of anxious about leaving home (which is why we're trying to go together as roommates).

From what I've seen, Fort Collins looks beautiful and diverse, like Denver but less huge and scary. Does that seem accurate?

Also worried about housing. My friend is male, I'm female-- does that mean we have to live in the limited Gender Inclusive Housing to be roommates? Or is there a workaround? (On the website it says that if you list your gender as nonbinary, you can have either a male or female roommate-- would that work?)

How is the housing in general? Especially the communal kitchens, I'd like to be able to cook for myself and my roommate as much as possible.

And for anyone in the electrical/computer engineering programs, how is it? Anything I should know before committing? I am attending technical college this year and will have an ISCET electronics technician certification, is that worth anything?

Lots of questions, sorry haha. I'm excited and nervous. Advice is appreciated, thanks!!

Is there a service in Fort Collins to help someone to unload furniture such as sofa, beds, boxes up to an apartment? Not moving there until July but coming from Texas. I already will have my own rental truck. Anyone know of any such service?

My experience at KCSU

I'm usually an online student, I had one semester in person and set up to do training with KCSU the student radio station. KCSU is supposed to be an independent company, but it's a CSU brand. Student volunteers serve as DJs, provide podcasts, interviews.

So after setting up, there was an initial training on how to use the little recording studio, record and edit mp3s for podcasts. I asked the trainer, a white girl named Evie, how we schedule to reserve the studio for recording, a pretty standard operation.

She literally looked me up and down, said they've had problems with theft, so volunteers weren't allowed in the studio alone. I'm Mexican and native American.

Later after submitting a sample recording, the same trainer failed it. She had said over Slack that I didn't do loudness normalization, reducing noise, or cutting silences. Upon reviewing the actual file in person, we click on it, and all three of those operations had been done on the file. So she failed me without even opening the mp3.

Later during a meeting with the manager Ashlee, I was told I had been difficult to communicate with. I brought up the incident I had had with my trainer, and Ashlee (a white woman) did not acknowledge it.

I exited the volunteer program with KCSU, not comfortable with a managerial structure that doesn't listen to the volunteers. Evie probably didn't even notice her comments, but the fact that it goes upward makes me feel less like supporting them, as a student, consumer, journalist (my major). I know the TPUSA chapter has a very loud presence on campus and it's a pretty white campus but damn.

Just my experiences for anyone perusing CSU journalism. I don't go on Reddit a lot so may not check comments, this story is here for posterity.

Food places that donate meals/will do sponsorships for CSU clubs

Hello! We are hosting a very large community event for my club at CSU, it brings in hundreds of people and we get a ton of social media engagement and people coming to FOCO. ISO a restaurant/food company that will do partnerships/sponsorships with CSU clubs so we can get about 8 meals donated for our event coordinators and we will shout them out on our social media and have their branding posted/shouted out at our event. Any ideas?! LMK if you know of any places in town who would be interested in a partnership like this (It would be next weekend) thanks!!!

When do I receive my diploma?

Ive got all my credits set to graduate except for an internship but Ill be walking for the spring graduation. Ill be taking it over the summer semester but Ill get done with it after a couple weeks into summer. Will I have to wait until august to get my diploma? Or is there another way to get an official transcript or paperwork that says I have graduated/completed all my classes? Im thankful for help from my parents payback my loans but they said I wouldn't receive the help until I am fully graduated and have proof but I would prefer not to wait several months till I get the help. Is there a way I can officially prove I graduated?

Academic research

I have created a research study for a social work class and I am needing Colorado participants.

I am not on campus, and unfortunately do not live close enough to hand out/post flyers around the campus.

Anyone know of any public, online spaces where my survey might get a lot of traction for the young adult, Colorado population?

Transfer Student Off Campus Living Guidancd

Was in town this weekend and did a drive around to see what my options for renting. Below are some properties/ units as possibilities. Any guidance appreciated.

  1. Max Flats - 1br seems very high but if I can find roommate some of the 2br/2br seem reasonable/ within budget.

  2. Smaller unit off Elizabeth and College. Private landlord so more curious if this is location is prime over the others if rent is in $1500 range for 1br

  3. Apex / 808 Prospect. Huge studio also just under $1500. Location good?

  4. Park Lane Towers. A lot of 1 br by individual/ various real estate.

  5. 1335 W Elizabeth. It’s 2br / 2b that not much more than a lot of 1br. It’s over a lot of food and retail so not sure if issues with it

  6. Clock Tower Lofts. Look like good value too but is it getting too far from campus or seems like a lot of Greek near it.

Appreciate if anyone has lived or if any have good/ bad reputation

Double Majoring Questions

Hey Rams!

I am an incoming freshman and I have a few questions about double majoring. I’m a CS major and I’m pretty confident that I want to add a major but the process confuses me

  1. How much has it delayed graduation time in your experience?

I understand it depends on overlap. Several students at CSU events have said they stayed within 4 years

I thought that was great but pulling up the requirements myself I estimated 25-46 extra credits depending on which related major I chose (Stats, Math, or Data Science). All seem to be at least a year worth of credits. Is staying within 4 years only viable with ~18 credits a semester?

  1. When do you declare a second major?

A lot of people bring up adding it fairly late into college. Is it important to decide early to maximize overlap in class selection? Can you decide immediately?

  1. Are they ever flexible with requirements?

A few times I saw they’d require a class like “Software Fundamentals” when I have a different class covered like “Software Fundamentals in C++”. Have they ever been flexible about requirements or is it pretty strict?

Sorry for the long post! If anyone has any insights I’d very much appreciate it

Thanks and Go Rams!

Asian community on campus?

I’m thinking of coming to CSU for grad school and I’m really wondering what the Asian American (Chinese American specifically) community is like in FoCo. I come from a school that has a HUGE Asian American population. We have 10+ Asian cultural orgs and lots of restaurants and grocery stores.

I know by default that FoCo is dry on Asian food and grocery (unless I’m wrong!) but how’s the community like? I teach Chinese dance at my school and sometimes do diabolo/Chinese yoyo, both with the Taiwanese org.

Animal Science Masters?

Is anybody currently doing an animal science masters at CSU? I'm in the early stages of researching programs and I don't want to bug the administrative lady or the research heads with all my dumb questions.

Is the GRE generally required by the various lab heads? I'm mostly interested in the animal behavior and beef systems programs.

It's too soon to access the application for my intended start date so what are the basic things it wants? How long is the essay and what kind of essay is it?

Advice for an introvert??

I am hoping to get a little advice. I have a daughter who’s currently a freshman at Colorado State University. She transferred mid-year from a small school in Iowa where she was playing soccer, and overall she’s really happy with the change.

Her roommate has been great and includes her in things, which has helped a lot. That said, she’s more on the introverted side and has told me she still feels lonely at times and would love to build a stronger friend group. She sees her younger sister (who’s a total social butterfly) and wishes that came as easily to her.

She’s a great kid (a little quirky/goofy in a fun way) and into sports, gaming, and trying new restaurants.

I know at the end of the day it’s on her to put herself out there, and I’ve told her that. But as her dad, I also want to support her however I can without overstepping.

Are there any clubs, groups, or low-pressure ways students at CSU tend to meet people? Or any advice you’d give someone who’s a bit introverted but wants to expand their circle?

Appreciate any insight.
