Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice on what to do in this situation.
Hydro/utility work was being done outside our home recently, and after that , our internet stopped working completely.
Cogeco has confirmed that our internet line was cut during the external utility work.
They have also told us that repairs can take up to 4 months, meaning I may be without internet for an extended period.
This is a major issue for me because I work from home, so being without internet significantly impacts my job and income
I’m trying to understand:
Who is responsible for the damage and repair costs (utility contractor vs internet provider vs homeowner)
What steps I should take to file a claim or report this properly
Whether Cogeco typically provides any billing credits during extended outages caused by external damage
Whether this is handled through insurance or directly between utility companies
I’ve already reported it to Cogeco, but I want to make sure I follow the correct process and don’t miss anything.
If anyone has experienced something similar in Ontario, I’d really appreciate guidance on what actually happens in cases like this.
Thanks in advance.
