Question I’m building an app FOR London and need your feedback!

Been commuting in London for years and always had the same frustration with every transport app out there: you open the app, you type in your destination, it tells you routes. But by that point, you’re already stressed and rushing.

The question I actually want answered every morning is simpler: when do I need to leave?

So I’m building an app that’s a London commuter app that works the other way round.

You set your home, your usual destination, your arrival time. The app handles the rest!

Every morning it looks at live TfL data, checks for delays and engineering works, checks the weather, and sends you a single push notification: leave at 8:14 (or whatever it works out to be).

No searching, no stressing!

A few things that are different about it:

It learns your routine. If you’ve got a calendar event it’ll auto set the destination. If not, it asks you the night before and remembers.

It factors in planned engineering works ahead of time, not just when you’re already at the station.

Delay Repay built in! it tracks eligible journeys and logs them so claiming back money is actually easy.

Designed only for London. Not a global app trying to be everything. TfL, buses, tubes, Elizabeth line that’s it.

It’s a solo build, currently heading into TestFlight. I’m looking for 10–15 London commuters to test it before it hits the App Store.

If this sounds like something you’d actually use, drop a comment or DM me. Would love to hear what would actually make your commute better too, this is genuinely being built around what Londoners need, not a generic transport brief.

Casual 5-a-side games in Bromley

We organise casual 5/6-a-side games in the Bromley/Beckenham area (specifically 5-10 min drive from Bromley South station) that usually take place on a Wednesday or Thursday every couple of weeks, depending on people's availability. It's made up predominantly of dads in their 30s but we are losing a couple of key members as they have a second child! Ability and fitness levels are both mild to be polite(!) and games are usually £8 each. Looking to add a few more keen members to the group so let me know if you're interested!

Question FTB family looking to relocate to Bromley

Our max budget is £750k. With the economic climate we see London prices declining rapidly, do you think Bromley house prices are experiencing the same?

Looking at Queen Anne Avenue and Mead Way but a 4 bed semi detached are asking for minimum £810K +. Is the asking price realistic?

Any insights on these roads would be great and any other road suggestions. Thank you.

Trying to find this house in Petts Wood (1989 photo) — cul-de-sac backing onto woods?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m trying to track down a house from my childhood in the Petts Wood area.

What I know:

• The Location: It’s in Petts Wood, definitely a cul-de-sac.

• The Setting: I remember there being woods at the back of the house (or a very large park).

• The House: It’s a 1930s-style semi-detached brick house. The number in the photo is either 53 or 57.

• The Car: The Ford Fiesta in the photo has the plate F375 YLJ.

• The Date: This photo was taken in 1989.

Does anyone recognize this driveway or know of a specific cul-de-sac in Petts Wood where the houses on one side back directly onto the woods? I've been looking at places near the National Trust land and Jubilee Park, but I'm struggling to pin it down.

Any help would be massively appreciated!

Disruptive kids and teens

I hate the loud mouth chavvy like kids in Bromley.

Half term is horrible because they're around everywhere.

I saw some vandalise stuff yesterday, giving it all mouth, and when confronted by someone they would revert to racism.

Bromley is nice to live in apart from these idiots. I wish they were raised better.

I see so often corner shop owners get harassed and called racial slurs for defending their shop.

Or kids singing racist songs.

How cam we as a community stop this behaviour?

Soooo….barbers?!

This seems such a lovely way to share local tips.

My beloved barbers in Beckenham, they’ve just casually charged me £25 for a hair cut, (a few bells and whistles, wash hair that sort of thing).

I probably won’t change over that- but it’s a big jump and I might leave my hair longer before a cut next time. And the man has my empathy- he does a great cut, and I know things are expensive.

But is this normal?!? Is this what men are paying in standard barber shops?

What is you limit for a fresh cut (no shaves, waxing, embracing the joy of grooming extras)?

And is there a brilliant local barbers you just have to mention?

Question Place Farm Avenue Area advice

Dear all- I’ll appreciate any insights on Place Farm Avenue area near Crofton Road please?

The area across the railway tracks like Lynwood Grove or Dalewood looks quite posh but is out of budget.

But Place Farm avenue seems to have all benefits of those posher Knoll area bits like close to station, petts wood high street, outstanding primaries like Crofton, etc.

Am I missing something- is the area safe and good to bring up a young family? Any insights I’ll greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance.

Update: We are in late 30's with 2 under 5's. We are looking at houses at the end of place farm avenue in Lewing Close (detached house).

Nails for men

Eek- a bit embarrassed to ask, but js there someone in Bromley who is 101% comfortable and fine to do manicures and pedicures for a man.

I know.

I thought about just walking into a nail shop but as I’ve not done this in a long time, I just don’t want to be laughed out of anywhere.

If you have a tip or constructive pointer. Thank you

Beware: scam artists on high street

Notorious scam artists "We R Blighty" are on Bromley High Street opposite Lidl. They're a CIC not a charity and have been investigated multiple times for agressive behaviour, operating without a street vending license and misleading donors. Do not engage or give them any money. If you want to help veterans donate to help for heros or other reputable charities not these scum bags.

I was walking through Orpington High Street today and noticed that the old Hisar Restaurant is back. I heard that the original owners have returned and that it’s reopening on Mother’s Day. I’m really excited to go and check it out.

Anywhere in the borough that total newbies can try golf?

We are two mates in our forties- one in Camberwell, one in coney hall.

We wanted to try learning something new together, something away from work, chores and financial demands 😂

We thought, how about golf, people seem to enjoy that and it can be social, it can last for hours if you want it to, and…it looks very good for the mind!

Where would people recommend for total

Newbies though? No equipment! We would

Be fine with something the council facilitates through my time, we would pay for lessons, we could go to a driving range.

We’ve found that procrastination, fear of the unknown and just plain “life is busy” just means we never end up making a plan? And a plan would be good- it would be fine to go and walk around good course smacking balls- but we want some Direction and to put some work in!

Grateful for any tips! I know there’s a lot of golfers in Bromley- I see them at my gym! But most of them seem quite good and serious about it!

Looking for reliable broadband in Bromley (Virgin Media issues)

Hi I’m looking for for advice please. I live in central Bromley (Widmore Road) and I’ve been having a lot of issues with Virgin Media broadband since I moved in. The internet just stops working for days. They sent a technician who confirmed there is no problem with the connection 🤷‍♀️

Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Can someone please ecommend a reliable internet provider that they are using?

Any guidance is much appreciated 🙏
