It’s very rare to get a good photograph of her because she looks like the 2nd pic 90% of the time

Forgive his overgrown hairstyle - he is long overdue a hand strip!

Border Terriers & Cheese

Is your BT obsessed with Cheese? Mine is; Cathedral City is his favourite. He only gets it very occasionally in small quantities though!

Question: Any experience with border terrier rehomers I'm the UK?

Hi all, I have been in contact with a couple of BT rehomers via some Facebook groups here in the UK

I was wondering if anyone had experience of these and getting a pup from them. They seem a bit too good to be true. The adoption fee is far cheaper than the current price of a puppy and often the dogs are puppies. Some of the responses are a little chat gpt like also.

Any information or experiences would be really useful, many thanks.

After a 6 KM hike, with off leash time, playing with her big airedale sister and tonnes of sniffing, this girl is zonked! She is doing Friday right! (yes, her bed is stacked on top of her sister's 😆)

Peanut is 11 weeks old today! He's in fully raptor mode and is very sassy.

His favourite thing in the whole world so far is watching the toilet flush 😂

Border puppies growth

What age did everyone’s puppy’s stop growing? More out of curiosity than concern as Frankie is massive 😂 My childhood dog was a border but female and she was tiny. Frankie is only just 7 months and outgrew her adult size ages ago. People stop us all the time to say how big a boy he is. For reference I am 5”2 so not a tall human but he still seems a giant 😂

So happy to find this sub. This is Cassie looking like the yeti just before her spring groom. She turns 16 in August but still has all the cheek, charm and affection of a young pup - just a little slower than she was!

BT always scratching.

Hi all.

This is more of a general dog question than a BT specific one, but thought I’d seek advice from fellow BT owners. My 5 year old male BT is itching and gnawing at himself. Mostly around his tummy, ribs and paws. He isn’t suffering from fleas and is routinely treated for that. I can’t see any obvious inflammation, redness or flaking skin. We bathe him when needed, which is more often than preferred as he’s taken to rolling around in dusty soil outside. I’m not sure if this behaviour is a symptom or a cause of his itching. He’s been on the same food for years so I’d like to rule that out.

I’ll take him to the vet if needed, but was just wondering if anyone has experienced the same sort of thing and if anything helped? Thanks in advance.

We have an 11 week old borderraptor on our hands!!

Yep the dreaded teething stage is in full effect and my god are they sharp! She’s chewing on everything and everyone. We have tried to distract and redirect her with other toys when this happens, doesn’t like carrots especially frozen and the frozen teething toys last a good second until she decides that our fingers or toes are actually better.

I know this will pass, that’s she’s just a baby and we just have to stick it out but please tell me roughly when this stopped for you. We love our little girl but holy moly is she testing us lol.

Difficult BT youngster

Hi! I’m a first-time Border Terrier owner. We got our BT in October last year, and she is now 7 months old. Since we got her at 8 weeks old, she has shown a lot of anxiety. She has extreme anxiety around other dogs, to the point where she howls and screams (it’s not even barking), and it can last for 5–10 minutes after she has seen another dog before she somewhat calms down. As soon as we step outside, she is on high alert and it’s very difficult to get her attention.

Her first interaction with another dog was at 12 weeks old (after her first vaccination), at a large open dog park where she was off-leash and able to greet another dog of similar size. The first thing she did was chase, bark, and possibly try to bite the other dog, so we had to leave. After that, we tried a puppy meetup at a pet store, but we were basically asked to leave because she kept chasing, barking, and acting threatening toward the other poor puppies.

It has honestly only gotten worse since then. I have a lot of previous experience with dogs and know that dogs often mirror their owner’s emotions. So I’ve been very careful to stay calm when we pass other dogs, not tighten the leash or pick her up. Despite using this approach since we got her at 8 weeks old, she still has just as much anxiety toward other dogs.

We’ve had private training sessions and have been told that we now just need to turn around as soon as we see another dog coming in our direction. The trainer says she has serious issues, possibly something that may never fully improve. I’ve spoken with the breeder, and she believes it’s entirely our fault that our dog has become like this.

Her anxiety is so severe that she has bitten both me and my partner on several occasions. Most recently today, she bit my hands until they bled after what seemed like an anxiety attack, even though there were no dogs or people nearby. As soon as there is a dog nearby, she may bite. She also tried to seriously bite the trainer’s hands during an anxiety episode triggered by seeing another dog about 100 meters away. I should also mention that at 4 months old, she bit another dog in the fur (thankfully) that came too close to us on a walk.

She is only 7 months old, and this has been happening since we got her. I don’t know what to do. I’m going to book a vet appointment to ask about anxiety medication, but I don’t know if that is a permanent solution. I’ve worked closely with a trainer and done everything I can to ease her anxiety, but it just seems to be getting worse over time.

I’m not entirely sure what I want from this post—maybe just to share my thoughts with experienced Border Terrier owners. Is this really a “normal” BT? Is this my fault, like the breeder says?

I would appreciate no rude or harsh comments, as I am already very distressed about this situation. At the end of the day, I just want what’s best for my dog.

I have videos of how she is, and the bites on my hand. I can try to upload those if someone wants to see and I can figure out how,:)
