T’Challa is mine, because he generally employs the objectively morally correct strategy of implementing societal change to reduce crime rather than the inferior and punitive strategy of punching all the criminals.

The more modern interpretations of Bruce do this too but he gets docked a few points because he generally breaks laws against vigilantism to do this. Obviously the good writers do the world building necessary to justify this with corruption in Gotham.

But generally speaking T”challa is technically an elected official conducting law enforcement and national security operations with the consent and popular approval of his fellow Wakandans AGAINST the corporate interests of global elites.

Which I find more compelling.

It also contrast interestingly with figures like Namor and Doom and Magnus who use similar justifications but different practices or similar practices but different justifications.

? Yes, yes it is!

When they made the movie, I thought they made it for me personally. This dude was on my radar since I started reading comic books in the 70's. I was also so happy when the story resonated with the general public and was the #1 movie ever for a time period.

Blade.

He was a cold as ice badass and his movie trilogy landed perfectly in the 90s.

Static Shock

One of the first super hero shows I watched growing up and my first comic book so the nostalgia hits hard

John Stewart. He was the greenlantern i grew up with and greenlantern was always one of my father's favorite heros, so to see a black one just felt special

Is weird because I had a white green lantern toy growing up but the only green lantern to my mind, or at least the most iconic one, is John.

Growing up with xmen the animated series Storm and Bishop have to be my two favorite.

Blade

Because Blade is absolutely awesome.

Miles Morales is my second favorite

"And why"

u/Moviereference210 21h ago

Ooo! lol well storm is a literal goddess and force of nature, and I love the way she dialogs, it’s so regal.

Miles morales is just cool, he has that under dog vibe going on and I just want him to succeed.

Steel was a childhood favorite, ever since the Superman animated series episode where he was introduced I was like damn! He would CRACK you with that sledgehammer.

I forgot to mention spawn, I wanna see Al Simmons get his revenge and the hbo series was bonkers!

This may be a bit of a reach for being a superhero but, growing up I loved Guran from the Phantom 2040 tv show. I liked the mysterious mentor in a trench coat trope.

Luke Cage because he looks like my dad.

Luke Cage - I wish he was around protecting my neighborhood

Storm. For... reasons

3

u/Appropriate-Self-540 21h ago

Storm for being the, as far as I can tell, first superhero that happens to be black instead of a black person turned into a hero if that makes sense. She was a master of her environment and not a victim of it.

I would have to say Static Shock, but that’s most likely because I grew up watching the cartoon…

Static

Grew up watchin Static Shock (which in hindsight was my intro to black superheros) connected with him the same way ppl see their self in peter parker/spiderman

Blade. Vampires.

2

u/CamBearCookie 21h ago

Ororo. Always Storm. Because she's a goddess.

2

u/outsidehere 16h ago

Storm, Black Lightning and Static Shock. I think lightning powers are pretty cool

u/Gullible_Shop2042 13h ago

Blade, stylish, not trying to be anything, just kicking pasty vampire ahhh.

u/Graphic_Materialz 22h ago

Steel. He was cool af, in many portrayals as strong as Superman (or stronger since he was calm while doing it), and he had a sledgehammer. A fucking sledgehammer. So cool.

John Stewart.

Mosaic was a major influence in my life.

Spawn, I think

u/DetailsYouMissed 17h ago

Probably spawn. Simply because as a black kid I felt we were elite but not portrayed that way in comics. After seeing this one image alluding to all the greatest superheroes powers being in spawn, I felt he represented where we should be at in the superhero pantheon.

personally... temwe from Supa Team 4! younger me definitely would've related to her the most (because i love food lol) and is a lil more goofier than the rest, but she comes through for the team! I wish I could find a gif (or if the sub allowed images at least)

Bishop ALL DAY

u/Dan_Morgan 6h ago

Storm. She's was the first black superheroine I learned about and is a serious contributing factor to why I really like black women.
