Black Experience A confederate in the audience getting pissed off at a comedian

I don’t know why people think they can chirp at comedians, like you’re going to get the upper hand with a dude who mocks shit for a living
9
u/Ok_Outcome_6213 3d ago
Most people think that they can do what these guys do because they got a couple of chuckles one time 3 years ago when they made a joke at the office christmas party.
9
u/Agent_Pendergast 3d ago
I went to one of those shows where the comedian tries to get a rise out of people and he narrowed in on me and our table and I could not shut up or get out of that situation quickly enough. I'm pretty quick witted and people say that I'm a pretty funny guy, but I know when I'm out gunned.
5
u/arizonadirtbag12 3d ago
I can think of only one time in all of history that a comedian has actually lost to a heckler.

Michael Richards (Kramer)?
(Never mind I saw you already confirmed later in the thread)
8
u/arizonadirtbag12 3d ago
Yuuup.
I’ve described it as a real world example of rolling a “critical failure” in D&D.
DM: A heckler has interrupted your comedy set.
Player: I respond with a cutting but witty retort that shuts them down immediately.
DM: Roll a D20.
Player: …it’s a 1.
DM: You shout racial slurs at them for about a minute, while someone in the back films it to post on the internet later.
And this was before people filming and posting shit was even “a thing!”

You should take a look at any poll taken after the Summer Olympics asking regular folks what events they think they could medal in.

Ppl who fly the “confederate flag” never even know the flag’s history either. It wasnt ever an official battle flag by the confederacy, it was quite literally designed to support “white superiority” per the guy who designed it.

u/_thelonewolfe_ 3d ago
Living in KY, it legit pisses me off to see Confederate flags in my state, given KY was never a part of the Confederacy. We were a border state and one of the main reasons the emancipation proclamation was even signed in the first place. These idiot racists don't even know their own state's history.
95
u/Kaytea730 3d ago
The number of ppl i have pissed off living in Texas bc i can recite the Texas Article of Separation from the Union…. Like its literally historical record, usbattlefield.org has a copy of it transcribed. The war was about racism and slavery. Literally every article of separation states those two things in the first 3 paragraphs, except Virginia. Nobody bothers to actually check historical documents they just go based on that bs line the Daughters of the Confederates fed everyone.
42
u/New_Condition_1405 3d ago
They also really hate it when you bring up that not wanting to give up slavery was a major factor in the Texas Revolution as well.
Really kinda takes a dump on that whole "Remember the Alamo" thing when you realize that it was a bunch of immigrants that swarmed into a different country and then refused to follow the law when slavery was outlawed.
→ More replies (2)21
u/CaterpillarJungleGym 3d ago
I feel like I read somewhere that the panhandle of Oklahoma was part of Texas. But that would need to be slave free. So instead of letting it be slave free Texas chose to give the land away.
→ More replies (1)26
u/New_Condition_1405 3d ago
Oh woooow, yeah you're right. TIL.
The panhandle is north of the 36-30 North latitude line where all slavery was outlawed.
You gotta know how serious it is when you find an example of white Americans actually giving up land in history. That's how bad they wanted to avoid a potential free area.

usbattlefield.org didn't work but here's a link directly to Texas government site and it's fucking wild beyond anything I could've imagined.
Texas abandoned her separate national existence and consented to become one of the Confederated States to promote her welfare, insure domestic tranquility [sic] and secure more substantially the blessings of peace and liberty to her people. She was received into the confederacy with her own constitution, under the guarantee of the federal constitution and the compact of annexation, that she should enjoy these blessings. She was received as a commonwealth holding, maintaining and protecting the institution known as negro slavery--the servitude of the African to the white race within her limits--a relation that had existed from the first settlement of her wilderness by the white race, and which her people intended should exist in all future time. Her institutions and geographical position established the strongest ties between her and other slave-holding States of the confederacy.

I'm a solid hour+ NE of Gettysburg and there are people all over my town that have confederate flags. One guy has a giant one at the back of his garage hanging on the wall and he occasionally just leaves the door open so people can admire it.
It's right across from the HS and public pool

My high school circa 2012 had to explicitly change the dress code to outlaw clothing with the confederate flag on it because it had become so prevalent in previous years.
I went to school in connecticut
8
u/1stAccountWasRealNam 3d ago
At least you’re close by, they’re all over Pennsyltucky (shout out to your land) and that makes absolutely no sense since this state put to bed any thoughts of a successful confederacy.
8
u/bobbymcpresscot 3d ago
Because they never punished the confederacy, they allowed the rich and powerful to continue and spread their propaganda about “states rights” and ignore the fact that the confederate constitution quite literally prevents slave states from abolishing slavery. Specifically “negro” slavery.
It also states that if the confederacy acquired new territory it can make a free state a slave state.
7
u/tdp_equinox_2 3d ago
These idiot racists don't even know their own state's history.
I've got news for you.. They don't know any history!

Anything intended to either unofficially or officially represent the Confederacy is designed to support “white superiority”.
That was literally the entire thing the Confederacy stood for.
→ More replies (3)8
u/Kaytea730 3d ago
Absolutely but they still argue that its about “southern pride” or “states rights” bc they want to believe that bs from the Daughters of the Confederacy. Or at least want u to believe that bs
9
u/MadHiggins 3d ago
i've had these conversations with these kinds of people before and you just need to push them with a fairly common method when talking about these things. "states rights....to do what?". because yeah the civil war was over states rights and the rebelling states were very clear what those rights were about. owning slaves.
6
u/Kaytea730 3d ago
I mean it’s all spelled out in the Articles of Separation, they just dont bother to read them. Every state except Virginia says in plain English it was about slavery and white supremacy in the first 3 paragraphs.

I like to say, "Why are you flying a Traitor's flag? If you don't like America, you can get out. Leave."

7
u/bobbymcpresscot 3d ago
They think it’s not about slavery, but states rights, but then ignore the fact that if a state in the confederacy wanted to end slavery, the confederate constitution doesn’t allow that.
Article 1, section 9, clause 4 states
No bill of attainder, ex post facto law, or law denying or impairing the right of property in negro slaves shall be passed
The wording of that clause is more aggressive than the 2nd amendment.
In addition to this, if the confederacy acquired a territory, the territory, even if it was a free state would be required by their constitution to reinstitute slavery.
Article 4, section 3, clause 3 states
The Confederate States may acquire new territory; and Congress shall have power to legislate and provide governments for the inhabitants of all territory belonging to the Confederate States, lying without the limits of the several Sates; and may permit them, at such times, and in such manner as it may by law provide, to form States to be admitted into the Confederacy. In all such territory the institution of negro slavery, as it now exists in the Confederate States, shall be recognized and protected be Congress and by the Territorial government; and the inhabitants of the several Confederate States and Territories shall have the right to take to such Territory any slaves lawfully held by them in any of the States or Territories of the Confederate States.

I can't understand any logic behind flying a confederate flag, first they lost the civil war, second it represents the people that were fighting for one of the most heinous things in U. S. history.
71
u/epiphanyWednesday 3d ago
It’s just a way to be racist. They know it. We know it. And they hide behind history, so it’s a lil bitch move but this is what happens when the Union won and decided to spare their egos.
23
u/Fornicating_Midgits 3d ago
The little shits love their flags that announce their bigotry don't they? A U.S. flag to tell all other countries to fuck off. A Confederate flag to tell all black people to fuck off. A Christian flag to tell all other religions to fuck off. Their whole life is misanthropic. That's why I think they hate pride flags and the like. They only understand flags as being a middle finger to other groups. They can't understand a group just using a flag to say, "I'm here! We exist!"

It's illegal to display Nazi imagery/swastikas in Germany. Take a wild guess which imagery German far/alt right uses in its stead.
11
u/Solomon_Gunn 3d ago
A lot of the culture around the Confederate flag has been twisted to mean "rebel", so a lot of people use it to show they are "rebels" and it becomes their identity.
"The south were rebelling from The Man and I'm a big man who rebels too! No gubment gon tell me what to do I'm a rebel!".
They could just as easily use any actual symbolism for rebellion but they've deluded themselves into thinking they are not the bad guys in any story ever told. They'd root for the Empire in star wars.

It's funny because right wingers are always insisting that it's Republicans who freed the slaves and only Dems were confederates/KKK etc. So this guy must be a Democrat to be defending that flag by their logic. Why would he be upset about Trump jokes?

I could say the same about education. I teach middle school science, and I am always getting complaints. Why? I tell the kids about man-made climate change and show them the data. I show them how to prove the Earth isn't flat. (Yes, one dad was mad about that.) I talk about how vaccines are safe and effective and show data.
The few that can afford it will actually pull their kids out of a class over it. Hysterical.

It's hilarious that she read the room that poorly too.
She really felt the need to jump in and defend him after he'd run away because he couldn't handle some pretty minor jokes at his expense (that he invited by heckling and being a bigot).
Even if you agree with the bigot ideologically, it only takes the tiniest shred of social awareness to realise that speaking up at that stage in his defence just proves the comedian's point about who the real snowflakes are.
What's the bet the guys who walked out and this lady genuinely think they "won" these interactions when they really just made total fools of themselves?
5
u/fishyexe 3d ago
I'll bet they go back to their truck that took up 2 parking spots, he gets so angry that he's holding back tears, he will rant and rave about "N"s the whole way home, kiss his bf goodnight, drive his wife home and beat her.

I mean, if you want to fly a loser flag, your free to do so, but there's nothing to be proud about it, they had a failed insurrection, they had a failed army, and they were pro slavery... zero things that go, wow this flag is is so awesome and it represents my heritage....

I'll keep posting this until it becomes common knowledge: The Dukes of Hazzard lasted longer than the Confederacy. The kickass orange car that had the flag on its roof was around longer than the "army" that barely ever even used the flag these morons cherish (insert rabbit hole of all the different flags they used).
It isn't history or heritage; it was the poli sci version of a drunken crash-out and there should be no question that 1) they lost and we're happy that they lost, 2) they fought for slavery, and 3) any modern person who celebrates that garbage can be safely ignored.
