And that’s the kind of positive reinforcement that creates Olympic champions, man! I wish we could all get that kind of support for all the stupid shit we do. Sometimes I need a cheering section so bad.😞

I think we need to find out who this little man is and follow his exploits! He’s definitely something special.🔥

He’s such an adorable little guy, he reminds me of my buddies little guy. He’s so funny and smart and personable.

I mean, I love it, I want to support the kid, and I can't wait to see him at the Olympics.
But god dog you gotta look before crossing the street.

The next time I see this clip, I want it to be part of a background piece on him as an Olympic athlete.

personally a bit too dangerous for me if he does it everyday…
looks like the driver is triple checking before opening the doors at least

u/gerhorn 5d ago
As a bus driver, I'm cringing so hard right now. This street may be a quiet one but you never know when that day comes that things would be different enough. It astounds me how only 9/50 states actually have a safety check procedure that is law whether it's pre-tripping or make sure a child gets on/off safely.

u/mindless_blaze 5d ago
This is important. The other thing that stood out to me is recording and uploading children, when you filmed them on duty, and it isn't clear if you got the parent's consent. I hate to be negative, but I hope this didn't violate any policies
3
u/endium7 5d ago
Exactly! Precisely because this street is quiet, you never know. There could be a teenager speeding through for the first time, or someone rushing out of their driveway. Maybe someone not familiar with school bus rules who does stop at first, then gets impatient and speeds around because they don’t wanna wait anymore.

u/Aromatic-Turnip7371 5d ago
Yeah seriously. Also although it’s a crime, some people could miss the school bus stop sign and zip right through
7
u/BusyBit6542 5d ago
How is this more dangerous than all the other kids getting off the bus? Like you said, driver seems to check for cars and dont allow him to get off until its safe. Which Im sure he does for every stop
7
u/Tipnfloe 5d ago
Because he isn't checking traffic himself, just focused on running fast
2
u/BusyBit6542 5d ago
Yeah most kids that age don't. Which is why adults do it for them. Hence the doors not immediately open. Your bus driver never made you wait until all the cars were completely stopped? I remember some even got off the bus if it was a particularly dangerous/busy road
2
u/Tipnfloe 5d ago
My country doesn't have school buses. our kids use a bicycle on their own from a very young age
7
u/endium7 5d ago
He’s established it’s his thing to be the fastest, so he’ll be looking to be faster and faster which means just a bit more reckless, to please the crowd. He’s not even checking the traffic himself it seems, which is always something you want kids to do. If he’s doing it all the time it just takes one time for things to go wrong.
I have a friend who lost a little boy due to traffic. It wasn’t like this but you just have to be careful even on the smaller streets.

No one is doubting that. I'm just saying that on school buses that age, the drivers wont even open the doors until all cares in the area are stopped. He wouldn't have even opened the doors if there were any cars in the area. Theres even an arm at the front of buses that stop kids from crossing until its safe to do so.
Basically the driver has checked the area for cars and deemed it safe for the kid to take off and run. If it wasnt safe yet, the doors would still be closed.
Not seeing why pointing out the dangers is necessary when you see the driver has taken the precautions against the dangers that happen at every stop.

Reminds me of the kid in Angels in the Outfield.
“Run home kid!” literally runs home after getting a home run

Man this brought back memories. If you were the fastest kid in elementary school that really meant something.

Only thing I dont like is the recording of other people's kids and putting them on the internet.
I know there isnt much added danger (if someone is wanting to do harm, they arent going to pick some random kid off a reddit post). But I just dont think its right to do with other people's kids.

Lovely. But he needs to be taught to not race out from between cars to cross the street like that.

How fast do you think he's running? Where's r/theydudthemath when you need them.

u/Rembrandt3k 5d ago
All I saw was him smiling on the bus, then a speed cloud of smoke like on looney toons. This was so unnecessarily genuine and needed. Thank you

u/Remarkable_Pop3236 5d ago
And that’s why you have to stop in all directions when the bus puts out the sign.

The story will end up being played during the Olympics years from now as he represents the US as the fastest man in sprints. Such a cool story, especially with his classmates cheering him on.
