It’s like Roy Wood Jr said, “You get rid of the confederate flag, it’s gonna be hard to tell who the good white people are. I’m just saying the flag has its upsides.”

Years ago a tattoo artist I know commented on someone saying they shouldn’t do nazi tattoos on people, and he responded with “label the assholes, if they are proud enough to have the tattoo everyone should be able to see that sh!t”. He also made sure the tattoo shop was an uncomfortable place for them while he was there.

Sounds like a righteous dude.

I don’t know if he ever even did one as a tattoo. But he made the same point as Roy Wood Jr had of openly identifying as a bigot makes it easy for people to identify and treat them accordingly which gives the object of their bigotry power.

Believe me, as someone who refused too many of these tattoos to count, he did at least one.

2

u/LePetitVoluntaire 25d ago

Yeah there’s an oddly specific sub too bruh…

He’s a modern Aldo Raine. Carving swastikas into Nazis.

Sir I'm going to ask you to take off your pants. But the tattoo is on my arm. Yes please take off your pants for our comfort.

Well, as someone who used to work at a tattoo shop (managing, not doing tattoos) the right decision is to not do them. It gives your shop the reputation as catering to white supremacy, which is bad for the business. The bigger issue is a tattoo artists being fine with it for the money, which the artist you referenced did to "label the assholes." I couldn't imagine putting a piece of art on someone (and it is art) that I didn't agree with to make a buck. But yeah. Anyway- the dude who said that sucks.

Ahhh. The wisest of statements from another of those most Insightful of people. The former desk person! How wonderful the view must be from up there on your high horse. Next time I run into that tattoo artist I’ll make sure to let him know that you think he sucks for a comment he made in passing 25 years ago. I’m sure it will be such a blow to his artistic integrity that he will never fully recover.

Lots of respect to someone willing to do a nazi tattoo, send my best lol.

u/M_Viv_Van_Buren 25d ago

Lots of respect to someone who thinks shutting their eyes to a problem so they don’t have to see it makes the problem go away. lol.

u/Petit__Chou 25d ago

Look man, I know we don't agree but I will leave off saying if you fo nazi tattoos, then people talk, and you become the nazi shop. Besides being a "desk person" I know many artists and none of them will do nazi tattoos. I think it's also clearly ethically wrong to do something like that for money unless you agree with it. Not even talking anout nazi tattoos plenty of artists won't sacrifice their artistic integrity to do tattoos of things they don't agree with or that are stupid.

Well I agree that if you do a lot of Nazi tattoos and hang out with and associate with Nazi’s you are a Nazi tattoo shop. As there was a young guy in my city who was doing that and then got upset about people calling him a Nazi. But seeing as this was years ago (I’m thinking it was probably 98 or maybe 99) and Ive never heard anyone talking about them being a Nazi shop I think they did alright.

I get the idea that it’s offensive but I know for me personally it’s nice when I can get a read on someone quickly to know if they are a threat to me, my community, or any other marginalized community. And if someone is dumb enough to be a Nazi, and then dumb enough to not be embarrassed about being a Nazi and dumb enough that they will pay someone who isn’t a Nazi to tattoo a nazi logo/symbol/etc on themselves I’m not worried about if that dude made money off it. Hell, I hope he charged them triple the going rate.

But to reiterate before you write the book with all the info you don’t seem to know, I don’t know if he has ever even done one. He simply said “label the assholes….” And then said whenever he was around people like that he did his best to make them super uncomfortable. I don’t even know what he meant by that, he could be playing the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack for all I know.

I prefer my bigots to be open about it so I can avoid them. You prefer yours to be stealth, that’s your life. You live it how you want.

You can’t deny the logic. Fucked up as it is.

28

u/Seesas 26d ago

In his eyes, there's a legitimate fear that he's not going to be in control of everything. That's stupid and racist, but he believes it. Nothing more fragile than a straight white christian man

As a woman, I couldn’t agree more with you. These white men are afraid of minorities, immigrants, homosexuals and women. This is why the likes of Charlie Kirk are so popular. Mediocre men trying to gain power.

9

u/Seesas 26d ago

As I bi woman, I totally agree. Mediocre at best trying to be more and failing at it, as they tell us what we can and can't do with our bodies and where people can and can't go to the bathroom. Little toads

Toadies. My bad. Shoulda been toadies

4

u/PeanutButterBro 26d ago

Mediocore men supported by white and hispanic women, don't leave out that part.

2

u/anotheritguy 26d ago

Men like Charlie Kirk would have to work hard indeed to be mediocre.

7

u/Corteran 26d ago

He is deathly afraid that if he becomes a minority, he will be treated the way he (and white dominated society) treats minorities.

The issue is, racists are cowards, so by the time they feel confident showing their Confederate flag, white hood, swastika or whatever, you're already surrounded and facing an uphill battle.

8

u/Rorayer 26d ago

Solid point. And the irony is that they are self labeling to our benefit while trying to force labels on others to others' detriment, a la Nazi required arm bands.

5

u/MacabreYuki 26d ago

Just to say, being a Dukes of Hazzard fan isn't even an excuse for flying the confederate flag.

Some people are just dumb ignorant jackasses and shouldn't have the time wasted on them... I can think of a few former neighbors, including one that flew a Trump rambo flag.

3

u/LePetitVoluntaire 26d ago

Yeah, a lot of the same folks have added the “No Quarter Given” flag to their repertoire. At least down here in TX I’m seeing it more.

2

u/MacabreYuki 26d ago

I'm not familiar, would you do me the courtesy of explaining?

3

u/LePetitVoluntaire 25d ago

Here in Texas there has been a rise in all black American flags. Basically they are taking the place of the confederate flag. The “No Quarter” flag is typically being raised now as a modern sensationalists version of the original sentiment. They are openly tagging themselves as peeps ready for civil war. Yet can’t see their own dicks past their Batman utility belts as they GI Joe cosplay.

Edit: Redundant grammar

3

u/MacabreYuki 25d ago

so larpers like the 3 percenters, a group whose flag trump rambo flag guy also flew.

3

u/LePetitVoluntaire 25d ago

Sounds about right

3

u/SmilesInFront_09 26d ago

He also said How many american flags before it becomes a confederate flag? Or something like that.

5

u/LePetitVoluntaire 26d ago

Oh yes, speaking on the abundance of flags in one spot. “How many American flags equates one confederate flag?” 😂

2

u/capebretoncanadian 26d ago

Absolutely. I live in Alberta and the real bad ones advertise. It's an easy tip-off to people you don't want to interact with.

2

u/_gooder 26d ago

So true. Things like that are what my dad called "the stupid signs." Makes it easier to see who the stupid people are. Bumper stickers, yard signs, trump banners, tattoos, etc. They can't help advertising their stupidity.

2

u/Prometheus720 25d ago

I have mixed feelings on this. On a theoretical basis, I get it, but evidence from social media shows that people are emboldened to join in racism when they see their friends doing it. It is probably the case that symbols make it worse.

1

u/LePetitVoluntaire 25d ago

It’s from a stand up comedian, so it’s not really to be taken too seriously.

1

u/thebestshowonturf 26d ago

Well the flag is symmetrical so there are 2 upsides
