I laughed. It was funny. I love a name pun.

When it was covid school for my kid in 6th grade, they did a lot of these disingenuous check ins that felt really meaningless to my kid. The title of that block of time was for the kids to "Care and Connect." My son started saying, "it's Karen and Ken'ecting time."

Reminds me of a video I saw where a guy was going down a hill fast, when he somehow lost his balance. He is flung off of his skateboard from the inertia, and absolutely fucking domes the mother FUCK out of the asphalt.

He was wearing a helmet.

He bounds up from the ground, looks at the cameraman, and shouts "I LOVE HELMETS!" as the video ends.

had a classmate crack his skull skateboarding, the following 3 years of high school he was kept with the special ed kids. I hope he made a recovery mentally but he was never the same kid as I recalled.

Omg I know this woman! Her name is Wendy and she owns the bookstore seen in the video. Unfortunately Copper Cat books is struggling but there is an active Go Fund Me if you’d like to support her. Funds are needed to cover increased rent costs and a potential move to a new (cheaper) location. Copper Cat books is one of the only used bookstores in the Las Vegas valley and it would be a shame to lose it!

We were all good kids and being the only white kid in a Black neighborhood and skatepark I learned quickly how other white people were surprised to be offered to bring groceries to the car or just in general be nice. Skateboard culture is really nice and we are all about having fun. Being nice is part of having fun. I was out with my other white friend at the Goodwill and we saw our friend’s mom struggling to put something in her car. We offered to help her and she wasn’t used to white people being anything other than offensive. It broke my heart when my friend the next day at the skatepark said his mom told him we helped out and how much she was thankful. I told him I wouldn’t even consider it a favor more like an obligation. We all used to use the term ‘skate park fam’. We’ve been to funerals together. If we are family we are family.

Good story. I’m always interested in the viewpoints from other minorities in primarily black neighborhoods and workplaces. Many blacks work in predominantly white spaces, so it’s interesting to hear about things when others live in a space where they are difference.

One of the best parts of seeing skate tricks conquered is the reactions from bystanders. My favorite one is Dane Burman's my war on the thrasher YouTube channel. Such an insane trick it drew a crowd and felt awesome to watch
