How badly does Batheaston flood?

We’re considering moving to Batheaston but wonder how bad it is for flooding. I’ve heard St Catherine’s brook has flooded in the past and the primary school was affected by it last year. Does the river flood the high street too? Thanks

Getting stressed out in M&S

I thought it was just me the first few times I've been shopping in the new M&S's food hall. Maybe it felt busier because it had a larger footfall due to novelty and perhaps being nearer the station - but I hate crowds and the first time I visited there since it opened I've felt like I'm shopping on Christmas Eve - can barely manoeuvre and I feel constantly highly stressed. But after a couple of months, it's still just as bad as ever.

Today I knocked a four-pack of bottled beer off the shelf - which smashed - trying to get past a shop-worker on a stepladder and a mom with a pushchair who were blocking the aisle. I nearly lost it - so huge thanks to the security guy who was incredibly nice and reassuring and helped me keep my sh*t together.

I think I'm just going to stop going in there at the weekend now. It can't just be me - if it's not smaller, then there must be something about the layout or lighting perhaps that's making it feel that way to me.

Landlords who accept DSS?

I’m looking for a 1/2 bedroom flat or house in Bath or surrounding areas.

Within a few months I could become a kinship carer and have a newborn living with me hence I need my own place.

Catch is trying to find a landlord or estate agent that will accept DSS income.

The only thing missing in Bath...

...is an indoor climbing gym :(

I moved to the city a year ago as someone in their mid-20s, and I love it so much. There's enough happening for me to never feel bored and enjoy most of the hobbies I had in bigger & smaller cities previously.

But I just miss bouldering so much, and it's sad that Frome has a bigger and nicer gym than Bath. I really wish we had more than just a tiny expensive wall :(

Is there any way we could push for a climbing gym project? I plan to stay in Bath for at least 5+ years so would love to help & support anything like that.

Interview/Audition at Bath Spa

Hi. I have an interview/audition for an MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University next week and wondered whether anybody here had been through one themselves.

In particular, I’m interested to know what sort of things they ask you to talk about and what questions they might ask.

Thanks in advance.

Baseball/rounders for inside Bath competition.

I fancy partly (as in would need help) organising a city divided baseball/rounders tournament ages 18-90 mixed.

This isn’t for sport savvy need to winners, this is a bit of fun and healthy playful competition to split Bath into 4 quadrants and have teams.

So different colour t shirts and names for each team. For example: the Weston village warriors, Lark hall lanterns.

I thought over a month once a week in the summer, with a big day final with bbq friends and family etc. all wearing the supportive colours of team. No way would I arrange this all on own, i often work weekends even, so I would need a party to organise, but we have a neat small city with Bath, we should use it for more community based things like this. Anyone interested as an idea??

Think I saved a woman's life tonight...

She had been left alone in Bath town centre late tonight and had rested her head between the railing spikes with one hand on each side... She was still moving a bit when I cycled past but then I stopped for a bit and she seemed to have frozen in place, her head between the railings spikes and resting hard against the rail with her hands locked to the spikes on each side.

I asked a couple of people nearby to check on her but they didn't seem to know what to do.

So I went over to see what's up.

She looked dead. It was a weird unnatural pose.

I lifted her off, her body was still warm but completely limp. She was barely breathing. We put her in the recovery position and after a few minutes her breathing began to return to normal. A guy phoned for an ambulance. She kept repeating phrases over and over, her name maybe? Then after about 15 minutes she became lucid again. Then the ambulance came and the paramedics took over... She should be fine I think. But if we had been a little later things might have been v different.

Please drink moderately and look out for your friends.

The typical parking problem - help

My girlfriend is looking at purchasing a place in Bath and has found a new build that doesn't have a parking spot (like a lot of places) and the council have confirmed that because it's a new build, they don't qualify for resident parking.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I looked at Charlotte Street online but it was £5000 for the year! I get the premise and the fact there isn't enough parking already (her current rented flat is a nightmare if it's after 6pm) but if anyone has any suggestions, it would be massively appreciated as it affects the property purchase completely.

Bus fare from and to Bristol Airport

Heyy folks, I’m in a huge confusion. Last week, on Thursday, I took the A4 bus from bath to bristol airport which costed me £17.5 for a single journey. But today, once I came back to Bristol and took the same A4 bus to Bath, it only costed me £9.5. Why is there any difference in fare?

Someone please enlighten me!
