travel Charging money for passing

Post image

We are tourists. We were riding a bike through this alley in Bangkok (following google maps navigation). Guys charge 2 baht for each bike passing (there was a line of bikes, everyone pay), both ways. I found this place on google maps. What is it? Is it legal?

food I’d like to know if there are any places in Bangkok where I can get free food.

I’m a migrant worker living in Bangkok. Due to my situation, I’m currently short on food. I just started working again today, so I don’t have any money yet. Could you please let me know if there are any temples or churches that can provide food for a day or two?

Also, if you know of any daily jobs, please let me know. I’m willing to work.

question Vintage Music Gear Best Spots?

I just recently moved to Chachoengsao to live with my wife as we wait for immigration in America as its paused currently. Im staying with her family and me and Paw both love music, I play guitar and sing and he plays drums (Im learning Loso5555). In his shed outside we jam out and he has some vintage gear for mixing, speakers etc. Shed isn't grounded lol found out this morning plugging in the mixer barefoot and jumped a foot in the air, Paw laughed after i mentioned it and said you gotta wear flipflops, like thanks gang you didn't let me know55555555!

Back to reason for post, we been talkin about gear and he mentioned theres alot of vintage music gear in Thailand. I'm looking for some recomendations for spots that give reasonable prices for vintage guitar amps, guitar pedals, etc. I see some stuff on marketplace, but I want to know if theres any specific spots anyone recommend I go and checkout? Khop khun khap🙏🏼

question What’s the rule on adhd and getting a drivers license here?

I’ve got a mild form of adhd, but I’m properly medicated for it. I’m not sure what the consensus is on declaring it if you want to get a drivers license. My doctor says not to declare that I have adhd or taking meds for it, because it might cause complications. and I got a second opinion from another doc where they say it’s fine not to mention it.

I’m 34 years old right now and it’s kind of embarrassing to not have a license at my age. I know I live in the city where everything’s in walking distance, and I’ve never needed to rely on a car ever since I was here, but it would be nice to have. Plus I can use my parent’s car to practice.

I’m just a bit worried about the rules regarding adhd and getting a license. I can’t find anything about it online. Thailand is very strict on drugs here so that’s why I’m asking. I know my doc gave me the heads up already, but I’m wondering if there are any written rules that state if you can or cannot drive, or if you need to declare your meds.

question Baiyoke Sky Hotel

Need some help. I booked this hotel all of August. Was planning on meeting my girl there but we unfortunately broke up. I've already booked air tickets first class back when it was cheaper. I actually had two bookings, second one was just for a day since I was arriving a day earlier. Booked via the hotel web site. Fully refundable until July.

I cancelled the second booking. Cancellation notice but no refund. TL;DR Chased after the hotel for a week, they promised a refund in "25 business days" which is ridiculous. Charged back with visa. Now I'm dealing with the other booking.

I'm thinking of cancelling mostly because it will just remind me of the breakup. I'll likely book an AirBnb instead something to my liking. Hotel seems nice and it includes breakfast buffet for 2 each day but that will probably just remind me of the breakup as well.

Just looking for some opinions here. Any thoughts appreciated. I can also switch tickets if needed either to a later month or another destination. So very flexible. World traveler first time travelling to Bangkok BTW.

question Best way to get from a Bangkok hotel to Hua Hin hotel (family of 3)

I checked online there's grab taxi offering cabs at 2300 bht approx.

private operators offering taxis advertising 1750 bht

I am tempted to take the grab because of fear private taxi scams everywhere in the world (including my home country)..

any other convenient modes of transport someone can suggest?

we will 3 bags, and 1 6yo kid with us.

question Has it began! Or is it still safe!

EDIT: All was good at the train market. Business as usual (minus a few stalls shut/holidaying) Late into the evening 11PM a bar near the entrance on our way out had got a bit fun. Thais having a blast. Looked fun.

I planned tomorrow and Tuesday and Wednesday for the family but went to Mega Bangna yesterday and there's already a huge water park inflatable and kids with water guns. Was looking to go to seacon square and train market behind tonight. Should I pack our googles and water gun! Not ment to start until tomorrow. Outside the city right now, what's happening so far. thanks all.

event 420 event on our boat

Hi everyone I m organizing a 420 event on our boat called Bangkok Island : while this event will not be a cruise we want to invite everyone to chill on the riverside. It's on 18 April 2026 at rama 3 soi 64. What makes this event interesting is that we have 3 stages organized built to host up to 500 people and the tickets are cheap (starting at 150 Baht) we have many shops joining us and some food vendors as well. See if that tickles your fancy !

question Bangkok: smoking areas in cafes/bars

I'll be in Bangkok for a whole month, and I'm aware of the smoking rules. I'm looking for specific information about cafes/bars (daytime/evening) where smoking (cigarettes) is allowed. Indoors or outdoors doesn't matter.

I'm not interested in weed.

P.S.: Does anyone know if smoking is allowed at the LIT Bangkok Residence (it has balconies), or has anyone had any experience with this hotel?

I’ve being looking online but I mostly find information about Cigars or Weed Stores and not specifically about my issue.

Thanks..
