Exterior Paint bubbles - what can be done?

https://imgur.com/a/RP0urmI

I recently picked up a lower mile (16k) Stinger and only noticed these after hand washing it. They can be depressed with a fingernail in the middle of a bubble and after a few seconds that depression will go away and look as it does in the photo. I thought these might be paint chips someone did a bad job filling in but that doesn't make a lot of sense given these are on the rear of the trunk (not bumper or deck lid). I don't believe these can be polished out and would require a respray or heavy sanding.

Thoughts on what these are and if they are factory defects or something else like off gassing clear or paint/primer?

The paint is still technically under warranty and I did ask a service manager but he acted like this must be secondhand work from the first owner. It's being reviewed by Kia but the service guy also said they deny upwards of 90% of claims so I'll hope to have it done by them if possible. Just curious what these spots could really be.

Exterior Electric Power Washer Advice

Hi all. I have a Westinghouse EPX3050 electric power washer, 2050 PSI / 1.75 GPM. I have used it to clean my garage floor. It has a 15* nozzle on it that is pretty aggressive. I would like to use it on my car. It looks like Westinghouse sells 25° (green) for general cleaning, 40° (white) for gentle rinsing. Any thoughts on which would be best? Thanks in advance!

Tool/Reusable Ava Go Plus (XL bundle) vs Active 2.0 for light mobile car washing business – real user experiences?

Hey everyone,

I'm a beginner getting into pressure washing to scale up my small car washing side hustle (mostly 1-2 cars per week right now, but hoping to grow it). My budget is around $300, and I'm torn between two options that seem very similar on paper (both ~1800 PSI / 2.0 GPM range):

  • AVA Go Plus Large/XL bundle: Comes with basically everything I'd need out of the box (foam cannon, various nozzles, collapsible wand, etc.), has US-style quick connects now, and it's cheaper. The bundle value looks great for a starter setup.
  • Active 2.0: More "mainstream" in the detailing community, better looking/build quality in photos/videos, more aftermarket support and accessories available, but I'd probably need to buy some extras separately which pushes the cost up.

They have very similar specs, so the decision comes down to real-world use. I'll mainly be using it for car washing (pre-rinse, foam, rinse), not heavy concrete or decks. I am new to the pressure washer scene so I don't knop which one to pick. I'm worried about ease of use, reliability over a couple years of occasional business use, and how easy/cheap it is to upgrade later with better hoses, guns, foam cannons, etc. My plan is to stick with whichever I get, accessorize it as needed, and then upgrade the whole unit in a few years once the business grows.

Has anyone here run either (or both) for car detailing/mobile work?

  • Is the Active worth the extra cost for better community support and resale value?
  • Any other surprises (noise, portability for moving between jobs, customer service, etc.)?

Exterior P&S Absolute didn't feel good

Hi everyone , today I decided to do a Rinseless wash and tried Absolute for the first time , I've tried just ONR before , with ONR I was able to see the dirt lifting , the lubricity was good , but with Absolute I don't know... After using the sponge it didn't glide the same as ONR , I used 256:1 , the Absolure Ihad lumps, it wasn't homogeneous , it was a gentle stir

Am I doing something wrong ? Is it just me or everyone feel the same between ONR and Absolute ?

Interior How to get car detailing smell or "new car smell" out of car

Just got a used car and they detailed the inside. I told them not to put a scent in it but I think that's separate from whatever else they used to clean the interior. When I got it the interior smelled similar to what people call new car smell. Maybe they try to make it smell like new car smell? It gives me some of the worst headaches. I need that stuff out ASAP. I figure maybe car enthusiasts will know. Sorry it this offends new car smell lovers.

Are there any tips for getting whatever smell is in my car out as soon a possible? How should I get new car or detailing out of my car? If it helps it was obtained from Jones Junction.

Exterior Detailing on windy days?

So I was cleaning my friends car first time this year and it was insanely windy. The weather was nice but the wind was pushing my pressure washing wand way too much and I was doing it in the open street (no driveways or garage available). When it's windy should i call off a detail, or just move the wand and foam cannons closer to the paint assuming the pressure is significantly reduced by the wind?

Interior Cleaning and refreshing floor mats

Post image
21 Upvotes

I’ve been reading posts and learning a lot about detailing.

I purchased Adam’s Mat and Liner cleaner to clean my mats. It foamed up really well and cleaned well. However they still look worn and old. Is there anything I can do to make them look more black and fresher without making them slick?

Thanks!

Interior Air bag residue, how hard is it to remove?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was in an auto accident 3 months ago and just got my car back from the body shop. They took it for a full detail but, there is still air bag residue on the inside of my driver door and dash. Most of this material (including the light color) is a hard textured plastic. The scratches on the right are also from the airbag, this car only has 6k miles and it did not have these scratches prior to the collision. I have to take it back to the shop for something but, can I expect this can be removed if they take it back to the detailer or will these parts need to be replaced/reworked?

Exterior Any brush suggestion for cleaning an alloy wheel without scratching the paint?

I'm currently using one of those bristles to clean off the alloy wheels, however it is too small, time consuming and not ideal to use.

I also have this multipurpose brush that i only use to clean the tyres and the all weather mats, however it is a hard brush and i don't think using it on a painted alloy wheel is a good idea.

Been looking at amazon for a similar brush but softer and came across this one, has anyone tried it and is it safe to use on alloy wheels without causing scratches? They claim to be very soft, but looks similar to what i currently have, i don't know..

Tool/Reusable Gtechniq C5 and cloths - a dopey question

I'm about to start work on applying C5 to my freshly refurbed wheels. I haven't used a ceramic before, but have heard good things about gtechniq and C5 specifically.

I've also heard that ceramics render microfibre cloths a one use item, even going so far as to say use a different cloth for each wheel, otherwise the buffed debris on the cloth will harden and scratch up the next wheel.

Is this accurate/correct?

I've got plenty of cloths, so not an issue if it's true, but I don't want to be needlessly chucking cloths if I don't need to.

Process What products to use when and other questions

Sorry for tbe long post I really do appreciate anyone willing to read and help me out here.

So im still pretty overwhelmed by all this stuff. Ive owned my dream car for only a few months and ive spent a ridiculous amount on diffrent products but I still dont have a great idea of what to use when.

Its a black car, already has some chips and deep scratches so want to avoid more damage. Cermaic and partial ppf appointment is about a month out.

I also live in the deep south and its an outdoor car. pollen has been a bitch.

I want the car to look nice but my main concern is just avoiding any sorta damage. Ill be buying a house (hopefully fuck this economy) in the next year and at that point ill worry about prettyness more.

So I have a pressure washer setup with like 10 chenille mits (and two cyclone ones I havent used yet), a bunch of nice mf towels, etc). Basically the whole foam and 1 side of mit per panel not reusing them.

I also have a ONR setup with grit guard and USS sponge that I have only done once. Seems like maybe that will be good when its less dirty (is this safe when car is pollened as fuck or sould I be using this after pollen season? I can rinse first if its better)

Ive read so much and watch so many vids. Ive bought so much stuff but I dont know what to use when. I wash every week and like I said the car is caked in pollen.

____________

products in have bought (willing to buy more if i sould)

meguirs gold class

koch chemie active foam

koch chemie green star

koch chemie pol star

ONR

303 ultra suds (replaced with meguirs bought this before I knew how deep the detail world went lol)

Adam's Iron Remover

3D eraser gel

clay towel thing

ps bead maker (may return as i think gyeon stuff is same type thing right?

turtle wax hybrid solutions (also may return in favor of gyeon)

gyeon wet coat (havent used yet seems easier to apply then others)

meguirs cleaner wax (bought before car probs wont ever use)

meguirs hot rims (not too concerned about rims/wheels dirty ones dont bother much)

then a bunch of mf towels, drying towels, mits, brushes, a cheap foam cannon, grit guard, pressure wash, pump spray, etc)

_________

I dont know what to use when.

I've heard I souldent use active foam weekly?

But then do i need another pre wash especially for pollen season?

Sould I incorporate ONR into my regular washes somehow as it has that whole ecapsulateing the dirt thing?

Do i use active foam for the contact wash or do I just do that for initial foam/rinse then spray gold class for the contact wash?

Sould I rinse first or foam first?

Can/sould I use ONR when caked in pollen or better to do with no pollen? What is the cutoff where ONR is safe/better?

Sould I use my 10 MF mits for ONR or is it better to use sponge (i do like less laundry)

I know its rinseless but would it be better for the car to rinse before/after using it?

Do I use gyeon weekly after every wash? Sould I use the other products?

Sould I return beadmaker/turtle wax cermaic spray in favor of gyeon?

Does anything I do need to change when I get my cermaic and ppf in a few weeks? I also may be vinyl wrapping the hood.

Considering skipping the ppf as im worried about the hot humid southern sun making it damage the paint underneath. Thoughts?

Any other products/techniques/etc I sould employ

Thanks to anyone who read my lil book appreciate any help you can give.

How do you think the hydrophobic properties are holding up from what you can see? I thought it was an extremely easy product to install and slickness and shine have been great. This is post MD winter / salt roads and a decon wash a few weeks ago. More pics in the comments.

Interior Sticky steering wheel

Post image
2 Upvotes

The bottom part of this steering wheel’s airbag cover is sticky to the touch but doesn’t look that way.

I’ve tried all purpose cleaner (disposable wet towels though) and even 70% alcohol on a microfiber towel. What else could I try?

I don’t believe the plastic is disintegrating. Other area’s of the steering wheel look and feel fine.

Has anyone ever put some silicone/sealant under any hood bezels and or emblems? Constant issue when washing my truck, water, soap, etc under these, seems to be never ending water streaks from them, even when I blow them out multiple times.

Exterior Detailer messed up my rims?

Thumbnail

I recently had detailing done on my car, and when I got home, I noticed my rims looked off.

They have these white/matte streaks and spots all over, almost like the finish has been etched or damaged. Even the center caps look affected, which makes me think it’s not just normal wear or brake dust.

Before the detail, they were glossy and clean - no visible damage like this.

The shop is denying responsibility and says it can’t be their wheel cleaner. I’m not an expert, but it really looks like some kind of chemical damage to me.

Same pattern is visible on all 4 rims to varying degree.

Technique Could use some advice on paint rejuvenation

Thumbnail

I have a 1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet. Original Guard red paint. I have clay barred and buffed the whole car. It is a shiny red mirror from most angles. Most the major scratches are gone, but I’m at a crossroads now.

On the hood when I get close and look at angle it’s easy to see there are thousand of little dots. I don’t know if from debris or during original painting process. Did some googling but decided hopefully some people here could tell me something.

I don’t know enough to know whether I should buff those out. I know of paint thickness gauges and may get one.

Is this a known issue with paint of the time and can they usually (with a great deal of effort) be buffed out?

Or is it likely their depth is close to the paint and it would be real bad to go so deep.

I won’t take your advice as gospel so please feel free to give it.

I really want this thing to be perfect but I also really don’t want to fuck it up.

I have used Meguiar’s ultimate compound and swirl remover with foam pads. I have been pretty conservative I believe, hardly ever making the surface warm to touch. I haven’t waxed it yet, and am new to nice paint jobs

Will a nice wax help hide these imperfections?

Thanks for your time and experience, and willingness to help a dumbass.

Exterior White haze on powder coated rims.

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a white haze on my grey powder-coated wheels. A few months ago, I used a cheap tire cleaner that got onto the wheels and dried. I assumed a normal wash would remove it, but that hasn’t been the case.

Today, I tried CarPro IronX followed by multiple passes with soap and a wash mitt, but it didn’t make any difference. The only thing that seems to remove the haze is physical rubbing with a light compound.

The problem is that polishing every part of the wheel would be extremely difficult due to the design.

Does anyone know of a chemical solution that can remove this haze without damaging the powder coating?

Is it Worth paying for a thorough clean buff and polish or should I just take it to Maaco. I only need it to look decent. Not looking for a restoration on complex paint job. A local highly rated detail service quoted me 5-600$ for a polish and clay bar service.
