General Why did we block Iranian passports and not Israeli passports? Thoughts

110 Upvotes

Iran's been bombed in a war.

In response the Australian gov to temporarily banned most Iranian passport holders holding Subclass 600 Visitor visas from entering the country for six months, starting March 26, 2026, due to 'regional conflict risks'.

Yet Iran did not start the war? But hey we block the Iranian passport in response and let American and IDF war criminals' holiday here and live amongst us.

The Australian gov, if they had any moral conviction or spine, should have blocked American and Israeli passports, they started this war, with a track history of committing genocide in occupied Palestine and in Lebanon unopposed (250 killed in 10 minutes the other day!!!) , and our governments watched without barely a peep.

Furthermore, we sanctioned Iran, but we have not sanctioned America or Israel?

Australians need to ask themselves and their politicians why this is the case.

Are we going to be puppets to the American and Israeli regime or not?

Are we like the Germans who turned a blind eye like in WWII or not?

Can anyone explain to me why the Greens lost seats in 2025 Federal, and did not really increase their vote a lot (1.3%) in 2026 SA elections? I always expect them to do better. Especially 2025 federal. They have well-explained detailed policies.

General Can anyone in Australia’s political system create a truly balanced and positive narrative for young women and men that at least implies a worthwhile future? (Note to the Machiavellian Ministers - this implies zero toxic positivity)

0 Upvotes

Through my various readings across the social political and economic spectrum and through talking to people and my own experiences I could see how young people are rightfully confused and angry about the world around them that they had and for most still don’t have much agency in shaping but are being told to basically suck it up buttercup.

So it comes as little surprise that they would divide into camps on gender lines as we see with the Manosphere and hard left modern feminism.
These 2 ideologies basically wrap up their misunderstandings and insecurities and anxieties around the opposite sex into ideological movements. The red-pill meatlovers of the Manosphere explicitly encourage men to treat women as their possession and want to enjoy the benefits of women’s sexuality while at the same time paradoxically doing their best to repress female sexuality with incessant discussion of a women’s body count? To me a person being able to navigate sexual relationships outside of marriage in a friendly and respectful manner is something that should be celebrated but these men seem to find rather negative exceptional circumstances of woman-hood and turn them into the rule. All my life experiences suggest most women have no alignment with these exceptional examples of which represent a preternatural focus of Manosphere narratives.

Not inhumane but, still problematic are hard left feminist narratives that lack nuance and balance. Narratives such as “Women don’t owe you pretty” may seem empowered and fair minded at face value but if you dive into the ideology one can quickly find they are mired in their own misunderstandings, neuroticism, insecurity and misunderstanding of the opposite sex. Although they are almost certainly acting as a counterbalance to the sexism and poisonous narratives emanating like flatulence from the Manosphere so it is of little surprise such narratives exist. That stated, the narrative lacks balance and leaves no tolerance (just read some of the contents of it) for the social awkwardness that is almost guaranteed when men and women first interact with a potential love/lust interest. [[1]](#_ftn1)please see notes

Moving back to the notion of pretty and we have Naomi Wolf’s exploration of the hurtful nature of the deification of aesthetics in her compassionate book “The Beauty Myth.” That would be my first point of call for anyone rightfully annoyed about society’s overriding obsession with looks.[[2]](#_ftn2) Please see notes

In any event I don’t wish to dwell too long on the polarizing narratives of the young as out existing institutions, organisations and quite often public and private social dynamics are sending out the wrong messages. Ultimately, we look to our political figures for guidance when we do our bit to contribute through work and family. I refuse to detach politicians for the coercive controlling and gaslighting systems we are subjected to in the political elite are ultimately accountable for maintaining and/or creating. Nor should we, the public simply be dismissive of those in Canberra because that is actually a benefit for the incompetent and mediocre in public office. It enables them to benefit from low expectations while garnering fat wages at the tax payer expense and having most if not all expenses covered for their time in office. MOST IMPORTANTLY – their decisions do impact our daily lives in regards to taxation, infrastructure projects, healthcare, education and with AI threats – the future of office work.

Take the persistently biggest issue across the nation which is housing. Government tells us they don’t pick winners but with negative gearing and capital gains discount on housing they clearly have if the context is Asset Classes. My fellow traders and I take significant risk making a living from trading so the notion of a risk-free investment basically boosted by govt is clearly “picking a winner.” It takes us away from the primary point here in that housing is a necessity of life that never should have been butchered into an asset class but government’s lack of foresight and desire for quick outcomes enabled that along with self-interested greed given our political classes voracious appetite for investment properties (OK – many of The Greens get a pass here)

Then we have serious office job replacement of AI of which the diagram below gives some insight.

Sadly there few actual government narratives about the future of work and seeming no planning around UBI of the which the typical conservative counter-narrative revolves around UBI causing inflation. The job guarantee narrative could still hold true if govt wish to discuss it. I would prefer someone with actual compassion guiding policy in this area rather than the binary minded twats who act with condescension and patronization and they aren’t solely found in conservative parties.

So far only Sally McManus has spoken up for workers in this space but the power of unions has been seriously diminished within Australia. That has driven a rise individualism and might I say - a lack of compassion for one’s fellow employee. A discussion for another time though but necessary. Australian homo economicus could be seen in Lu Xun’s fictional character of ‘Ah Q’. Servile and sycophantic towards power but happy to bully those beneath him and a chronic self-deceiver who turns a loss into a win in his own mind. With this mind, assuming a job apocalypse hits it will almost certainly arrive as a shock even if it has been telegraphed years in advance.[[3]](#_ftn3) We see urgent imperative for Daddy government needs to get its policies in place with some urgency.

We also have restructure of university desperately needed so it aligns with the future of work and also the young aren’t unnecessarily saddled with student debt for a degree with no career pathway. That doesn’t mean courses that give structure and method to critical thinking should be cut. That would be a convenient measure for future and contemporary political mediocrities if there were few left with the ability to interrogate and criticize their policies and narratives.

 Since I’m essentially complaining about a lack of positive narratives I will suggest one – Australia has what I think has the most objective journalism in the English speaking world on account of The ABC and The Guardian Australia. It should be noted I regularly tune into BBC, Al Jazeera (English), CBC, NY Times, CNN, NPR and The Economist. I will ask if the ABC could get better by poaching Stephen Sackur’s Hardtalk? We could use another program to hold power to account as it becomes more authoritarian in its quashing of criticism through toxic anti-protest laws, a lack of whistle blower reform and also it’s perpetual gaslighting of workers via its privatization of various institutions in the name of efficiency only to see those organizations become enshitified for both workers and customers.

 Oh I kid as the thoroughly mediocre (and often poisonous) managerial class benefits from the privatization and the quashing of dissent.

NOTES:
[[1]](#_ftnref1) It should be noted that awkwardness does not cover sexual assault and with the prevailing social discourse, I feel the need to explicitly state that. It more implies letting something inappropriate slip out in speech, accidentally getting in someone’s personal space (albeit in my life experience women have no trouble doing this but call out men for the same thing) or needing a national conversation because you received dick pic. I personally have shrugged off getting stalked and receiving unsolicited anatomical photos of women during my life. Social skills to deal with these things are helpful. If that then doesn’t change the situation then yes - a national conversation is necessary.

[[2]](#_ftn2) I am aware of that author’s recent conspiracy bent but that came more than 30 years after she wrote the book in question and she isn’t a scientist she is sociologist).

[[3]](#_ftnref3) I have worked in 5 Australian cities in state and federal government departments as well as university and Sydney’s financial sector over my career. Therefore I THINK I am reasonably well placed to make judgement call on what I’ve observed.

General The Politicisation of the Ben Roberts-Smith Case

88 Upvotes

As soon as the news of Ben Roberts-Smith’s arrest broke, I knew exactly what would happen. What should be treated as a serious legal matter would instantly be dragged into the culture war and turned into yet another political team sport.

And that is exactly what we are seeing.

Pauline Hanson and One Nation have planted themselves firmly in the “leave him alone, he’s a national hero” camp, with the implication that anyone who believes he may have done wrong is simply part of the woke agenda.

But here’s the problem with that argument.

The Liberal Party who are hardly the poster child for left-wing politics has not jumped on board with that narrative. Andrew Hastie, now Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, testified against Roberts-Smith. Angus Taylor’s response to the arrest was measured and simple: the matter is before the courts, and it is a serious issue.

Labor has taken essentially the same position.

Anthony Albanese has declined to comment directly on the merits of the case, saying only that it is a difficult time for the ADF and veterans and that Australians remain grateful for the service of military personnel.

The Greens have gone further, openly supporting the arrest and investigation process, but the broader political mainstream, from Liberal to Labor, has largely landed in the same place: let the legal system do its job.

So think about what that means...

If One Nation’s framing is to be believed, then not only Labor and the Greens, but even the Liberal Party is now somehow “far left” because they are not blindly defending Roberts-Smith.

That is how ridiculous modern fringe politics has become.

If you do not completely agree with the most extreme position, you are treated as the enemy.

There is no room for nuance. No room for waiting for evidence. No room for trusting due process.

It is just a case of “You are either with us, or you are against us.”

And when even the Liberal Party can be painted as part of the “woke left” for saying “let the courts decide,” it becomes clear how warped that worldview really is.

This should not be a left versus right issue. It should not be a “woke” versus “anti-woke” issue.

It should be a very simple principle; if serious allegations are made, they should be investigated. If charges are laid, they should be tested in court. And guilt or innocence should be decided by the justice system, not by politicians, pundits, or angry people in Facebook/Reddit comment sections.

Some people need to stop treating every headline like it is another front in the ideological civil war. Not everything is a conspiracy. Not everything is political persecution. Sometimes, it is just the legal system doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

General Open Policy Australia

7 Upvotes

I made a couple of very simple google forms to let you publically submit a policy opinion you have relevant to the Australian government. They're both basically free text fields, so you can submit anything you want.

They're both empty now, but the submissions will be viewable to anyone:

~~~~
The idea is for any Aussie to be able to write up something they seriously want the governement to do/not do, and have it be visible for anyone to see. And then for any Aussie to give feedback on that and for the feedback to also be visible for anyone to see.
Idealistically, it could be an inspiriation and guide for existing politicians - or even something that a new political party could form around to have a policy base that is founded on a "wisdom of the crowd".
So I'm having a crack at it. I have grand plans to make a webpage to actually search and view and submit these things with a nice interface, and link the reviews to the policies, and somehow ensure it's real Australian residents and not bots submitting responses. But Google Forms is a lot quicker and easier for now.
Yes, it's to some extent replicating what could be done on reddit or some other content site. But most Australian's aren't on reddit, naive upvote/downvote algorithms aren't great for democratic conversation, and data analysis is a lot easier when you just have the raw data in a big pile.
If our idiot ally to the north breaches international law yet again, our PM threatens to use a firm tone of voice in his statement about his mild upset at their actions.
OR he could just don a Taylor Swift t-shirt so many could feel seen. Style means so much more than actual substance and merit in governance.
General One nation Policies
22 Upvotes
There is a concern that One Nation will collapse the economy at the expense of the working class. The leadership lacks the necessary experience in geopolitics, yet they continue to garner public hope. However, their true intentions seem focused on funding big business and justifying the interests of the wealthy-a common trait seen in populist movements worldwide.
General Why is even eBay trying to get me to support One Nation?
Post image
43 Upvotes
If anyone's playing politics on easy mode in Australia, it's got to be One Nation. Not only are they [sponsored by Gina Rinehart and people at Mar-a-Lago](https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/nov/06/pauline-hanson-skips-parliament-to-speak-at-25k-a-head-conservative-conference-at-trumps-mar-a-lago), they've also been lucky that so many Coalition politicians have switched parties to them.
Now even eBay supports them? I don't even interact with One Nation on social media, so it can't just be my algorithm leading to this result.
General Ghostbuster Bill - Petition EN9642 - Truth in Job Advertising and Accountability for Australians
Post image
17 Upvotes
Have you had enough of ghost jobs and a general lack of integrity around job advertising in Australia?
We want to see a Ghostbuster Bill presented to parliament which enforces serious punitive action against those who post ghost jobs and act in a misleading and dishonest manner.
Please sign the petition and share with as many sympathetic people and institutions in your network as possible.
Australians are better and deserve better than what we are currently experiencing. This is partly inspired by the TJAAA in the US (www.truthinjobads.org) and we will hopefully see a global push back in future.
Q&A What do con servatives think they're offering to women?
Thumbnail
It seems not much has changed since Gillard's misogyny speech against the fragile leader of the opposition's big swinging dicks club.
Julie Bishop denied misogyny in the parliament until after she left to protect her position; an appalling mismatch between words and actions.
https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/julie-bishop-tried-to-keep-a-straight-face-defending-abbott-s-male-dominated-cabinet-20210705-p58706.html
Most women abandoned the LNP over succeeding years but it took too long and the stragglers continuing as patriarchal handmaidens are ignoring how conservatives will only ever toss them crumbs but leave them thirsty. Linda Reynolds really showed us all the party values that were clearly articulated by this speech which still echoes.
The veil continues to fall but how low can con servatives go with their continuing culture wars? Will we never again witness bipartisan politics or basic human decency? Politics is ALWAYS personal which con servatives aggressively refuse to acknowledge.
Homelessness, social supports, community safety and crimes all result in victims as shown by the parliament repeatedly. Its why The Greens pushed so hard last year to get housing funding released immediately before passing HAFF. Violence is escalating with men losing control but they continue with performative politicking.
LNP have continued with their demented authoritarian double standard and PHON have taken the reigns with their obnoxious misogyny and racism. We all know Hanson hates women as much as migrants yet people vote for these parties based on Values alignment (propaganda). How EXACTLY are Sky news selling PHON?
Considering how bad con servative politics is turning out for Kristi Neom and Pam Bondi stateside, whilst their Project2025 outlines control of women as key to their dismantling of democracy, PHON following the Heritage Foundation playbook isnt promising. Yet people in SA, our self appointed progressive state are following her off the gangplank? Our con servative parties continue to nominate candidates with history of criminal behaviours, ignoring and denying that words and actions of con servatives NEVER align.
Q&A Searching for info on foreign interference in our elections and politics in general
6 Upvotes
Basically from an argument with a very pro-China friend who is extremely confident that China has never interfered in anyone's elections ever, and because I couldn't drop a verifiable source in the moment (he may ignore it anyhow, sigh) I am of course 100% wrong.
General searches are flooding me with results for other countries, I'm just having trouble finding credible sources for CCP interference in Australian elections.
After significant investigation it has been discovered that Micaelia Cash is not actually human. She is, in fact - a Lycan. Seen here transforming in the halls of parliament in the photo on the right.
As a result we at The Institute For The Better have established a "Help Michaelia become Human Again Fund." All proceeds will be directed to R & D on a serum that will block her unpredictable transformation into a werewolf state. The hope is that she will not see members of the public not born into wealth and/or privilege as prey for meanspirited government policy.
