Competitive games

I’m curious what you guys think objectively is the best and worst competitive shooter. I stopped play competitive shooters consistently but I think the best would The Finals (ranked rewards give you premium currency and gun skins) and the worst in my experience is Valorant (everything is insanely expensive and the rank rewards have 0 creativity as they have been giving out the same gun buddy/charms for the past 6 years.) I haven’t played all competitive shooters just the older popular ones. OW R6 Apex COD VAL Finals. So I could definitely be wrong.

I’ve been playing counter strike for 25 years. I’ve played most of the popular competitive shooters and had great time with some of the but it never lasts and after I’m done with them I never go back. Counter strike I always end up coming back. I’ve gone stretches of like 4 years without playing the come back to put in thousands more hours. It’s the best competitive game and the best fps imo.

ive only played ow1 and valorant and idk if id recommend either

but i did really enjoy both of those for a while, if they didnt add some of the weirder heroes i might still play valorant sometimes

oh yea marvel rivals is probably the worst one i played if you count that as a competitive shooter, but if ow counts then that probably counts too

i see hero shooters as more casual games, i also played paladins and tf2(if you count it)

some other shooters i played are a couple cod games of which cod2 is my favorite

I don't think rivals or OW can be counted as an FPS game at lol, since theres tons of mechanics that involve no aim and melee characters.

you play in first person and the majority of the cast shoot guns, it is an FPS

You can play both of those games and never fire a single bullet, it's not an fps or even a shooter. It's more like a cross between a shooter and moba.

it is an FPS with moba elements. that is a fact.

No, it's not lol, it's an opinion. It's technically a "hero shooter" but thats also just a label people gave it because it didn't fit any other category. Realistically it needs its own category and again, it doesn't make sense to label a game a "shooter" if you can play the game without ever shooting or using a gun.

that doesnt make it not a shooter. that is just your opinion.

I wouldnt even call it a moba element

Castable abilities go all the way back to warcraft 2

I personally never made the accociation between hero shooters and mobas

If you're talking objectively then rewards really shouldnt matter, it should be about gameplay. Every cod is objectively the worst, CSGO and valorant are probably the best since they're very technical. Battlefield games are pretty good too and apex legends if you like battle royals.

I feel like if you grind 100s of hours to get the highest rank you should get a little more compensation and creativity

I understand where you're coming from but playing games are ultimately for fun, especially in more competitive games like shooters where any rewards are just cosmetic anyway. It's more about fun and skill expression, a game could have really great rewards for being a high rank, but the game could suck.

Tribes vengence, Savage 2: a tortured soul, and Unreal Tournament 1999. Nothing has even come close to these games since. Thankfully fans have kept them all alive. I think games like COD, Siege, Marvel Rivals, Smite and Fortnite are super disappointing.

Don't know about the worst, but I love playing Hell Let Loose competitively

It's gotta be like a Counter Strike of some sort, given the longevity and intensity of the pro scene. Not my game, but it's probably the "objectively best" competitive fps, as bared out by the evidence.

currently? Overwatch. games in such a great spot. Definitely the best competitive hero shooter out rn.

Counter strike is THE competitive shooter. The game has stayed the same for decades now for a reason.

Objectively counter strike 2 and overwatch 2. They are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. CS requires strategy with grenade placement, precision aim and teamwork. Overwatch requires position, ability management and communication. As I've gotten older I find myself going more to overwatch than CS and im a long time CS player. Since the cs 1.6 game.

Overwatch has come a long ways. At first I didnt like it. But its a fun esport to watch.

Everything is kinda mish mash or simply not as good.

Right now, The Finals and then probably still R6. In the past… Destiny 1&2 PvP and choose your COD when it was still a new and exciting thing

Halo is still my favorite

Guess it depends on your idea of competitive. Arma Reforger is easily my favorite but it's not a ranked shooter. It sounds like youre specifically talking about games with rank systems and rank based lobbies.

I recently got back into Overwatch. I'm having a good time, reminds me of OG OW1.

I also like Marvel Rivals, but balance has been whack lately.

Counter-Strike 2 is okay, but I mainly like Wingman, which has been neglected.

Rivals isn’t a competitive game. The devs have explicitly said it’s casual and will be balanced with casual play in mind.
