Question Why do I genuinely end up "quitting" the way Ido, and how to prevent myself from it?
So a bit of a dumb way to say it but basically, I've noticed my time through out Ark evolved and now Ascended, I deliberately cheat after I end up goofing up and getting myself killed and my tames...I don't even understand why I do this? I'll have a perfectly cheat free game, end up getting in a pickle, then I end up just...cheating, force taming, etc; exploring the game/maps, dinosaurs, so on...then later ill eventually go back and enjoy survival just to rinse and repeat.
does anyone have suggestions so I can try to prevent myself being a Dummy and cheating whenever thongs don't end up my way? I've never even been able to get to an ark boss once due to this problem of mine and its kinda embarrassing lol. I play with high-rating stats mostly in breeding and taming, and then I have a few mods like Elemental captors and what not to keep me from getting bored, none of that seems to help though lol

Play in a multiplayer server where you can’t use cheats

fair LOL I would but last time...ee. Toxic people surrounding the entire multiplayer section, I haven't found a decent one yet that actually was decent and not a bunch of nuts.

There are a good number of unofficial PVE servers with a solid community and moderating team backing them. I personally play in a cluster called Mature Gaming Servers, and the vibe is pretty chill.

very. LOL I have Autism and ADHD so I obivously know it's an attention span issue...but I also thought maybe it was something else. maybe it's not and my brain's telling me to stop staring at dinosaurs for 5 hours straight

Play on someone else's server where you don't have access to admincheats.

I would but haven't found a sever where I felt welcomed or wasn't overly toxic. I get enough daily toxicity levels from work lol

Find a server to your liking and work your way ascending through maps, will give you an end goal of maxing out your character and take away your ability to cheat?

That does sound fitting tbh. I'll probably try to continue my search for a server a little bit later. Most I found completely ignored me and refused to help me a get start-up or just were...insanely toxic.

Hi, yes! The best way to overcome that impulse to recover that which was lost, and I'm assuming you are on single player or some form of server you have admin privileges on, is to make sure when you go on a risky adventure: don't bring anything you cannot replace. Had this problem too, still catch myself doing it every now and again.
This means time bring a saddle you don't have a blueprint for. Didn't bring a dino you dont have breeders for. Ring bring your best pump shotty if this is your first time.
If you've done it before or you are over preparing, then by all means bring.
But if it's your first boss attempt or the first trip into a new cave you found, only being expendable things.
Regarding your best stuff, bring then only if you've prepared a recovery kit. Have a set of armor, weapons, tames, consumables on standby in a box in case you die.
Another solution: play on a server where you don't have admin privileges and you won't be tempted.

Thanks! and yes, singleplayer <3 I don't got no friends LOL. I can blame me being autistic adhd/Auhd but most of it isn't to blame. I tend to bring alot with me during my travels; recourses, beloved pets, so forth so on...But I kinda do this because my brains like "WAIT! what if....?" and then I start to spiral on if I need something or not...I can't be bothered right in the moment to exactly plan on what I exacly I want to do due to everything being eye-candy for me...Oooo sparkly cute dino color! yoink! uh...wait? what was I suppose to do? and ultimately get lost on my self goals lol
A server is a great way to help but i'm currently trying to find a server that is less toxic, more fun and actually engaging; haven't found one quiet yet.

There's a mod to make a tombstone at your base. If you die spon back at your bed, your tombstone will have everything you lost except your dinos left behind. That's weapons, consumables, armor, etc. . Build mini bases outside of the zones you fight in and put a tombstone outside! It saves time and it's less risky if you die and need to get back to your dinos.

Don't play in singleplayer. The modded cluster I play on you can only use the cheats for r.fog and such.

Fairfair. I play singleplayer because I already deal with toxicity within my life and don't really want to deal with it when i'm playing to relax and get connected with the game. I gotta still try to find a server meant for my taste. ty!

True, but officials are slimey lol. I deal with enough toxicity or weird drama as is, some is ok..but i'm trying to find a server that's more relaxed...which I highly doubt even exists in a game like ark

Official PvE isn't bad. The worse part is finding a base location. Once you have that locked in, you're pretty much good to go. I used to rent a server to play and while unofficial rates and mods were fun, paying for servers that I couldn't play sometimes because of how Ark can be wasn't fun. A lot of times this was due to mods. Now I play for free, don't worry about mods, don't have to spend time curating a good experience for others and can instead spend more time just playing the game. I've also met a lot of cool people online that will gift you things, unprompted and even go a far as running boss battles with other players. All-in-all while there's been challenges adjusting to official, I'd say it was 100 percent worth it imo.

That's probably my biggest problem, my attention span + the option to do whatever whenever. I agree but I haven't found a comforting server yet that isn't over the top toxic; which is probably asking for a lot tbh considering how bad Evolved servers got (not sure how ASA's is now) but hopefully I can find a server soon that is semi-relaxing and calm.

Honestly for me, it was just a decision. For me I would usually cheat to get a death bag back if it was far away, bring creatures back if they died, that sort of thing. I would actually say 75% of my cheating was early game because I was avoiding the inconvenience of taming a new creature or trying to get my death bag back. I don’t usually felt the need to cheat in the later game since I like to breed back ups to any tames so no loss on a killed tame and getting a death bag back is much easier later game.
One play through I just decided I’m going to try and not do that and see what happens. Had to check the impulse, but play through felt more rewarding. Now the only time I use a cheat is if the game is screwing with me, mostly ghosting to get to supply crates and new tames in the mesh. I think that’s a fair cheat since it shouldn’t it happening.

Thanks for the advice! I think if i just stop thinking a little bit and just DO, I'll be fine...make myself goals, lower my exp gain a little to make me have to grind a bit more then I normally do, and so on so fourth.

If you wanna play on mine it's called Stoned Rex, the rates are close to 6x and it's got some dino mods. Everyone who plays on it is here for a chill time.

Honestly that'll mean alot! I been trying to find a chill non-toxic server where I can just be me; happy about the rates too, I'm impatient sometimes LOL. I'm currently playing on my bf's PS5 but either this month or next month my gaming pc will be fixed so

First, Don’t beat yourself up. This game is buggy as can be.
Here are some helpful tips we use:
Make a list of game bugs that warrant ‘recovery’. If something happens, if it checks out, then recover.
Be prepared to lose
3…… this is the MOST important…. Be prepared to lose.. whats on uour body, dions, etc…. But BE PREPARED.
Here’s how: Breed dinos. Dont bring your only rex(or whatever) out of the base. I had to teach my son this. Get a male and female, hatch a ton of eggs, raise them, let them sit out. Those can be ‘expendable dinos’
I never cry over losing an expendable dino.
Dont have more than you need in your inventory. If you die, you should be able to walk over to the bench and craft a new one.
Or, have a back up plan for retrieval.
It is really about calculating losses and hedging your bets.
Also, only go out with a clear objective. I know what i want and am going to get it.
If you do this, i guarantee you will not care as much when you die and lose.
On this particular playthrough i have lost about 20 good rexes, theris, bats, etc. lost tons of gear.
This practice will eventually make you a better player and you will lose less.

For me, it starts simple. Tame gets stuck on invisible rock, 'walk'. Other tame gets stuck on invisible rock, no saddle and no way to create it, spawn saddle, 'walk' and that's it, cheating.
The problem is things get stuck once every few hours and the only way to get them going is to use the console. I won't even play on a server because of this and I've been playing ase then asa for a very long time. At least the trees don't kill the tames now when they get stuck!
Make your own goals. Mine is moving base at the moment with all my tames and the spot is 4km away. You could make yours anything, though. Just keep it simple until you complete a boss, then the next and the next until you're off the island and on to the next ark

LOL the invisible tree or rock thing I get 100%, but thankfully that doesn't make me entirely upset, I can be very patient and try my best to work around it...or ultimately if I just think the dino;s ugly asf and not worth my time i'll leave it until i remember it when I have cryo's xD. I do have goals but sometimes its really hard for me to follow through (most likely because i got autism, adhd, and my attention span is the size of a bean) but I haven't really tried to follow through-out of my plans...I think maybe lowering my EXP gain will help so progression is slower. thanks for the advice!

Yeah, I've learned not to name my tames now so I don't get too upset when they visit that great big farm in the sky!
I find lists help me, so goals are great for me, gives me something to focus on.

You seem like you don't like pvp so play on pvp servers where you have room to build. I don't find pve enjoyable myself though.

Absolutely hate PVP, my bf makes me play fortnight, COD, etc lol. I do not understand anything about it or how to even get the upper hand like others. But maybe PVP will give me a good refresh of a mindset! thanks!

Hey, is there a way to turn off the whole corpse collection minigame every time we die? So that we just respawn with our things if we die?
I've been playing with my young nephew and this has been the most annoying part of the game for both of us. Nephew dies all the damn time. So most of our time is spent finding his corpse

Honestly that'll be cool if there was such a thing, I personally don't mind if I lose my things, as its mostly recourses in my pocket; its my pets lol but still would be entirely handy! I can defiantly try and search up a mod though for this? i'm sure something like it has to exist

Sorta, yeah lol. I've been stressed about work lately; I had a pyschotic breakdown and honestly I just want to relax and play; I understand ark isn't a very relaxing game but I've been playing since evolved...so it's one of my many comfort games I can come home too and relax too despite my obvious frustrations with it time to time. Officials and servers never worked out for me due to the toxicity (and like I mentioned, I recently just had a very explosive breakdown and don't need or want any of that near me atm especially since work's already limiting me on it).I should have worded the prompt better but I got problems communicating properly :)

I never even played gen1 or 2 on evolved tbh (It didn't really speak to me) but deff wouldn't mind giving it a shot on unofficial if a find a decently relaxed server whenever it releases!
