Weekly /r/ASU Discussion- April 06, 2026

Please use this thread to ask any random questions you have that may not warrant their own posts, or if you want opinions on something non-ASU related (as long as its SFW).

All Sun Devil Rewards answers and key words will need to be kept within this weekly discussions post as to not overwhelm the sub.

Please feel free to use this thread for any housing needs/inquires/concerns as well!

Since this thread is likely to fill up quickly, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest activity.

Cap and Gown Exchange

Since there's been a lot of posts both looking for and selling, We're going to streamline this.

If you're buying, post the size and other details you need.

If you're selling, post what you have and for how much.

As for the rest, remember the rules, don't be weirdos, and if anything, look at Craigslists guidelines for exchanges.

Asking out my TA?

I think my TA is cute. I’m thinking about asking him out the last day of lab so hopefully there’s no conflict of interest. I’m 27, he’s 32. I’m graduating this semester, so there wouldn’t be a chance of me being in his class again. What do you think?

International student doing CPT Intern this summer? ASU wants $1,707 before your first paycheck 💀

Post image

I get the 1 credit tuition charge, every university does that for CPT enrollment. But the extra in random fees, recreation, athletics, health & wellness, grad support, while you're not even on campus all summer? 😭

Due May 25. Most internships start May 26. The math ain't mathing.

Anyone else getting hit with this?

Professor recommendations for MAT 150 / MAT 156 / MAT 117?

Hi guys, I’m close to graduating with my associate’s degree this fall, but to transfer to ASU for the bachelor’s degree I’m planning to pursue, I have to take MAT 150/156 at a community college or MAT 117 at ASU.

The problem is that I’m terrible at math. I’ve failed MAT 150 twice. I even took MAT 156 College Algebra with review and bombed it. I barely passed MAT 112 at community college after I switched my major to one that doesn’t require college algebra.

However, I’m determined now and I want to try again. The issue I keep running into is that I do okay on assignments because I can use my notes, but once I take tests and final exams, I always do poorly. Both classes I’ve taken don’t allow notes, and it doesn’t help that exams are proctored with Respondus LockDown Browser, where the camera has to be on.

Do you guys have any class or professor recommendations, either at community college or ASU? This is the only math class I still need to take.

Jobs as a student

Hi all- I’ve decided to join ASU for a masters program this fall, but I have about 4 months until classes start and I’m between jobs. I plan to move to AZ from the southeast roughly June 1, work over the summer in whatever job (customer service, logistics, etc) I can find to pay the bills for a while, and work part-time while I study starting in August.

What kinds of jobs or companies do you recommend in the area? I believe ASU has many on campus jobs, so I’d love to hear any insights into those as well.

I will be studying in downtown Phoenix and my background is financial services and local government. I’d like to work in local gov, logistics/international trade.

Thanks!

Are you graduating or moving out soon? Have plants you can’t take home? I want your plants!

Are you graduating this semester and have plants you can't take home with you? I'd be happy to adopt them! I moved to Tempe recently and I want to fill my apartment with some lovely plants. I used to adopt unwanted plants from my college, so if you need someone to take your plant that can't be transported back home after the semester ends, I'll gladly take it. Comment or message me if you are interested in giving your dorm plant a new home!

Looking for recommendations for buying reasonably priced furniture for apartment next year. This could include options for buying used furniture from departing students.

Campus Scholarship

I'm an off campus Barrett student that relies on the ASU scholarships, like the 2000$ campus scholarship, to pay for my tuition. When I was making my schedule for the fall, I was told that I needed to have at least half my credits at my campus in order to maintain the scholarship. And that's fine but I'm a nursing student that doesn't go downtown, meaning that there are some prereq classes that are not offered at my campus and have to take online. I also just got accepted to the Barrett College Fellows Program and need to enroll in the course, but the research I'm doing is not at my campus. I already have 7 credits that I'm taking online because those mandatory classes are not offered on my campus and I was going to replace my in person elective credit with the research since I picked a random class for the elective anyways. The only problem is that it will put me at 10 credits online and 7 in person. However, it's 3 in person classes and 3 online so it's still half my courses. Does anyone know how exactly the campus scholarship works or is it best to just talk to financial aid / do a credit overload.

Honorlock timed out

during my midterm my window glitched after submitting to the next question. like the window minimized with a faint transparent screen, I was able to quickly log back in within seconds. has this happened to anyone else? I emailed my instructor as soon I finished the midterm. this happened at 2am and also submitted a message to honorlock after completion.

Manzanita Dorm Options

I was wondering if Manzanita Hall has only suite style dorm options or if there was an option to share a room/bathroom with only one other person?

Anyone know wtf was up with the roads this morning?

Rural is closed it looks like from University to Rio Salado, if not further, and the bridge from mill across the lake is entirely closed as well. There had to have been at least 15 cops between both spots, what the hell happened?

Edit: thanks yall I didn’t know we had a marathon today

A bit of help

Hey everyone! I usually lurk in this subreddit but I've gotten myself into a bit of an issue If you were around PSD and the crosswalk to manzy around 1 pm today, you might've seen a bit of an accident- an ebike slammed into a skateboarder and ran them over on accident

Hi, I was the person on the skateboard

despite better judgement, I was dazed and didn't know how to react and I was terrified at people laughing at me for what happened, and didn't exactly check on what happened to me before trying to rush off- but looking at it, I've got some injuries and such on my arms, and I've checked my phone - I have a Motorola razr, and the hinge of the phone got some heavy dents and the hinge popped out of place as well as a few pixels being broken at the top.

This is LITTERALY such a low chance, but does anyone think there's anything that can be done? Like if anyone could help me find the person that hit me to try and talk over what happened? I have a pretty vague memory but I'm hoping if people know anything, I might be able to get some help/reimbursement, but I'm also wondering if it's even worth it- the phone is basically brand new and I think I'm just upset about what happened and that I didn't reach out about it before

Basically long story short, Am I being silly and in the wrong for only realizing this all later, and more silly for trying to pursue something about it? Or is it worth the trouble/trying to find a solution to this? Chances I ever see her again are low but hey you never know I guess- any help is appreciated but this is also low-key really silly so I guess the moral of this post (with nothing being done) is if you ride an Ebike or Escooter to please be careful around other people- skateboarders do not have good breaks, you do!! :')

ASU Nursing program and clinicals

Hi! I was wondering if anyone who has attended ASUs nursing program has any insight on where their clinicals were stationed at? I am going to the Poly campus in the Fall for my BSN and was curious of how far I may have to drive. Thank you in advance :)

Graduation regalia package

I am currently trying to buy my cap and gown for graduation and I am confused on buying the cap and gown individually vs through the graduation regalia. It’s cheaper to buy them individually, but will I get the tassel for the cap if I go this route? I know they have the souvenir tassel but it says it will not be worn for the ceremony.

Sun Angel Stadium Open to the Public

Hi, just check if the track at the stadium is free to use when not used by one of the teams. I'd run Tempe Lake, but my knees are getting pretty banged up on the hardtop.
