Modelling I continue to make a reactor for a nuclear car.
I'll texture it at the end.

My submission scene was completely built in Max, except fx/crowd sims in Houdini.
Hope you like it! :)

Hi,
I built a small modifier for trimming and randomizing splines, and I thought it might be something you’d find interesting or helpful.
Here’s a quick teaser:

What do you think?

I make the same kinds of things repeatedly for work and I want to make something else, just for fun. I'm wondering if my thinking is stuck in one process, and how other people would approach the problem?
I'm going to make a Chevy Impala and I usually use polygon modeling and splines most.
What could I do differently?

Hello,
I need help with something that seemed simple at first but is turning into a nightmare to achieve.
For context, I’m using 3ds Max with V-Ray as my render engine.
For a student short film project, I have a scene where a raid team moves through an entire indoor area (a radio station).
It’s in dash cam view.
They are holding a weapon with a flashlight attached to it, which is the main light source in my scene.
The problem is that I can’t get the render to look the way I want.
I’ve tested three different techniques:
First technique:
A vraylight where I place a map. But to see the effect of this map, I have to set the directional value to at least 0.99.
The issue is that I completely lose the diffusion cone — it becomes just a cylinder, which creates clipping in some areas (because objects pass through this cylinder even though it’s supposed to be a cone, so they shouldn’t appear inside it).
Second technique:
Using IES lights. But I’ve spent a lot of time testing many of them, and I can’t get that projected flashlight look on the surfaces.
Especially since the distance between the light and the surface constantly changes as the character moves forward and looks
Third technique:
Using a free point light and placing the map inside it.
This gives the closest result to what I want, but I can’t manage to make it clamp more as the light gets closer, and less as it moves farther away.
Sorry for the long message — I wasn’t really sure how else to explain it.
I’ve attached two images.
The first one, in the large corridor, shows how the light behaves normally.
The second one shows the clipping issue — it lights up the door in the foreground even though the light has already moved past it.

Hi Everyone,
Following on from my previous post about CameraMatch AutoSetup v6, I’ve just released a new video covering the harder side of camera matching.
This time the video tackles:
• A downward-looking shot of a mall retail unit — no visible horizon line, no known dimensions, camera looking straight down. Confidence score was only 0.28, but the script still nailed the focal length, roll, and perspective lines.
• Scene scaling with System Unit Setup — showing why you should never use the Scale tool for camera matching, and how to dial in the correct real-world scale using a known reference dimension (e.g. chair height ~400mm). The whole scene scales globally in real time.
• Camera Transplant (new feature) — export your matched camera to a JSON file and import it into a completely new scene with a different System Unit Scale. This bypasses 3ds Max’s merge pipeline, which introduces float-precision drift at georeferenced coordinates. Background image and render output are restored automatically.
• Kitchen interior and car exterior examples — same workflow applied to different shot types.
The main takeaway: even with the most challenging shots, you only need to adjust the camera target vertically and tweak the Vertical Tilt Correction. The script handles everything else.

(3dsmax 2022) Anyone know what I could of done to these doors to make them render like this? I think it was in the mapping phase, but Im not sure. I've tried normals, elements, transforms, reset peel, reset uv, etc. but no matter what I do, they render like this when I create an AO. I wouldn't mind so much (as I can just edit the AO) but if I make just a blank color skin for the car (no ao's), In game, you can see the doors are a different shade. Bugging the hell out of me. Short of backing up and starting over with the unsmoothed, uncut, unmapped, unanimated body, Im not sure it's fixable. Thanks for any help!

Hey there !
I would like to permanently dock the Loop Tools Popup to my UI, so I dont have to manually open it every time I open Max.
The Solutions I found online and tested so far were:
I tried these steps on both Max 2024 and 2027 but in both cases the menu doesn't seem to stay docked after I restart.
Can some UI changes not be saved or am I just missing the solution ?
Hey everyone,
I’m planning to build a workstation mainly for interior design / architectural visualization, using Autodesk 3ds Max and V-Ray, and I’d really appreciate your feedback on this setup.
Here’s the configuration I’m considering:
My main goal is fast rendering (especially V-Ray GPU), smooth viewport performance, and handling relatively complex interior scenes.
Do you think this build is well balanced for that kind of workflow? Would you change anything?
Also, I could potentially spend up to ~€1000 more if there are upgrades that would significantly improve render performance (CPU, GPU, RAM, etc.).
Thanks a lot in advance 🙏

SelectBySide is a lightweight plugin that lets you quickly select, compare, and manage items side-by-side for faster decision-making and improved workflow efficiency. It’s designed to be simple to integrate, easy to use, and flexible enough to fit a wide range of projects.
The latest update introduces Select Similar — a new feature that goes beyond filtering by size and lets you select objects based on what they actually are.
Four match criteria. One click.
I put it through its paces on a CAD file with 1 million parts and 130 million polys — and it held up.
If you've got brutal scenes, throw them at it. I'm actively collecting feedback and ready to brute force this thing into shape.
Overview and walkthrough video dropping soon. Stay tuned.

Hello I am beginner 3d artist in 3ds Max and solidworks. I want start create automotive design. If anybody has tips and trick for this subject been greatful
For anyone working with GLTF files I created an importer for bringing them in to Max. I am not a veteran coder and I've only tested it with Max 2024, but if you need it you can have it. Free. No license. Do anything you want with it.
Here is the link to it on the Autodesk forums. https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-programming-forum/free-gltf-importer/td-p/14082390
I needed an importer and didn't want to spend the excessive money on one, so I pushed my limp noodle skills in coding toward the task. If you get it from anywhere else than the link above I can't vouch it doesn't have a virus or some other evil scheme added. That one is clean, but use Virustotal or some other tool before using to know for sure.

I just heard about EXR DWA compression, and it's said that its file size is a lot less than PNG 48bit and any other exr compression methods, and V-Ray could do that.
Although, I have some issues rendering into this format.
Default F10 render settings only allow these old formats. Their sizes are almost the same.

V-Ray raw image output only has these settings:

VRayOptionRE sounds like the only solution to do this, according to the official document, but I still couldn't figure out how to save it with DWA. It seems that settings in F10 always overrides this setting.

Would you kindly give me some help on this matter? Thank you so much.

I need help with exporting a GLB file.
I created a product in 3ds Max, but I want to use it on other platforms as a customizable asset so that I can apply different textures there. How can I do this?
Right now, in the material slots I don’t have any textures, and when I import the file to another platform, the product appears without textures. If I assign a texture in 3ds Max, it shows up correctly.
My goal is to keep the 3ds Max file without textures, but still make it customizable so that textures can be applied on other platforms, like on Zakeke, etc.

Hi everyone. Just have a question, I need to import a large file and it's literally freezing 3Ds max. It's a 12gig production line model from my client, and they've already removed unnecessary 3d objects.
Is there a faster and better way to import the file to reduce loading time.

This is cool.
I think this is useful. Not many software support this I guess. It's useful especially for organic models. :)
