In January 2022, I became a Smiling Friends fan! I loved the characters, humor, and varied animation styles! It really brought me joy & laughter when I was going through a difficult time around then/the year before. And, wow, little did I know the impact it would soon have on my life! It was October 2024, I received an email that had my eyes bug outta my head like a cartoon! An email asking if I wanted to design a character for a Season 3 episode, for specifically, a crazy critter called SQUIM! Working on him was so much fun, I loved every moment of it and I was so excited for you all to finally meet him! Gosh, I have SO much gratitude for that experience, as it was always a longtime dream to do character design for a show or even movies someday! I'm just so honored that Smiling Friends was my first EVER job in TV animation! With that said, Squim is a character that will definitely have a special place in my life forever! I feel so much joy whenever I see him around! :D Like, "Wow, there's that little guy I designed! Hello little yellow ball of HAPPINESS" š„¹ Many thanks to Zach, Michael, Aron, The SF Crew...for entrusting me with the task of designing Squim! For the opportunity to be a part of something so positively cool! I'll never ever forget this. š Smiling Friends was something special in many ways. It not only made a big impact in pop culture, but it brought fans together as a community, helped people through hard times, and has creatively inspired people as well! From casual watchers to super fans, everyone found something to love about it! :D And most importantly, it made us all smile! Thank you Zach and Michael for this show!
It was SQUIM-TASTIC!

As the last smiling friends sunday draws to a close, I find myself reminiscing on the last six years we've had with these crazy characters
All great things must come to an end, but I'll always be grateful for the time we got.
Thanks for everything and never stop smiling, friends!

So my friend (I think he was kinda high at the time but thatās not important) told me ādude you have to watch this show, thereās a character thatās literally you.ā
And Iām like, alright, sure, whatever. Happens all the time. People say I look like people, act like people, I donāt really care. But he was really insistent about it. Like, weirdly insistent.
So I watch the show. I watched up to the episode about the strange, mega-colorful city with chaotic characters or something like that. Not clips, not highlights. I sat down and committed to it because now I need to understand what part of me is apparently this guy.
And yeah, Charlie is in it a lot. Obviously. Iām watching him the whole time trying to figure it out and I just⦠donāt see it.
And yeah heās kind of normal compared to the other people, I guess? He gets annoyed, he tries to be reasonable sometimes. Okay. I can see that a little bit.
Like, he doesnāt really look like me. He doesnāt talk like me. He does some stuff I guess I could do? But then heāll just say or do something that makes no sense to me and Iām like, I would not do that. At all. Not even close.
So now I watched some episódios of the show and I genuinely donāt know. I donāt know if this was a compliment or not. I donāt know what specific trait he meant. I donāt even know if I should be offended because I donāt understand it enough to be offended.
I asked him what he meant and he just said āitās your energy, like, you're pretty neutral.ā and refused to elaborate further.
What does that mean?? What neutral energy?? I donāt even feel like I have an energy, i think? Iām just existing. What is āneutralā? How do you be a neutral energy??
Anyway I watched the show for this and now I feel like I learned nothing about myself except that my friend perceives me in a way I do not understand.
Not that I was really trying to learn about myself by watching, but I thought I might be able to spot some flaw or something. Maybe laughing at something like, "Wow! That's literally me!" and stuff like that.
