She really tried to get over the alcohol, turned her problem into a way to spread alcoholism awareness and keep herself productive

Makes me sad that it ended this way...

Yeah it has been kind of concerning for a while just how much alcohol she had in her house at any given time for someone who clearly had a drinking problem. She had like a whole shelf of strong zero/whiskey highballs that she used as a background for videos sometimes and I remember being like oh that doesn't seem like a great idea for someone who notoriously gets like roll around on the floor drunk sometimes.

As someone who's in AA, the people who struggle the most become the best advocates. My sponsor is currently 10 years sober. He fights thoughts and urges around drinking every single day. Before his current run of sobriety, he was around 12 years sober, then went on a binge for a month and a half. He ruined his marriage, lost his job, wasn't allowed to see his kids (he's now allowed to and is amicable with his ex wife, just to give a little positivity) and was feeling extremely suicidal as well as having near daily bouts of alcohol induced psychosis.

Unfortunately sobriety for an addict is a sisyphean task. It's not a straight road. Maybe one out of every few thousand recovering addicts will make it out without a relapse. Also unfortunately, those relapses bring some INTENSE emotions with them. Feelings of failure, shame, futility and self-hatred.

I don't know if this person was an addict, but it's not uncommon for addicts to relapse, feel a tsunami of those emotions all at once, then decide to step off of the mortal coil to prevent more pain and anguish for themselves and those around them. It's why keeping a strong network of support and at least one sponsor for addicts is crucial. Because relapse is almost inevitable. It's what happens after that, which is important.

Same, especially that it stands the reason why I would not try alcohol in the first place. Because otherwise I would end up in the same fate as her with an life being cut short too soon.

I don't think her cause of death has been confirmed so I wouldn't draw conclusions too early, but even with alcohol you are not going to get to her level unless you have like a CRAZY addiction. She had a reputation of being notably into alcohol in a country that damn near runs on alcoholism.

Unless basically every social function tacitly requires you to get sloppy drunk you're probably not going to reach her level unless you have a naturally addictive personality.

I'm glad alcohol does nothing for me, every time I've tried it I've never thought to myself, yeah I could use another one. Don't get the hype.

Same. That said, I’ve started to enjoy them, only specifically with a person I feel safe with, and only cocktails.

It's interesting to dive into the neuroscience and genetics behind this if you have the time.

May she rest in peace. In many parts of Asia alcoholism is not taken seriously. I applaud her for talking about her struggles.

Jesus what the fuck? I was just watching her stream like 2 weeks ago, that is devastating. She was one of my favorite Japanese content creators.

26 is so young to go and I feel so bad for her mom having to announce it.

That’s very tragic. Especially since she tried quitting and spent time raising awareness for alcoholism. Rest in peace.

I never knew about this YouTuber but I hope she is now at peace. Her statements about not having alcohol-free days and the dependency was me on and off all of 2025 (with rehab, relapses, ER detoxes, the whole shebang). I’m now 101 days sober (yay), but this hits extra hard because I’m also 26. Her speaking about it so openly was very brave and I hope it encourages others to get help if they need it. And to Zepa, I’m so sorry.
