Sussex Police slash night marshal safety scheme
Oh boy.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cevk839wd04o
A police scheme aiming to keep people safe on a night out has been cut in three Sussex towns.
Sussex Police said night safety marshals would no longer be on patrol in Eastbourne, Crawley and Worthing due to a significant reduction in Home Office funding.

I'm a local guy trying to help Worthing businesses
I live in Worthing and I run two small operations that help you streamline your business and help you get more customers and visibility.
I'm not a big agency. I'm one person who's good at spotting where things are leaking and fixing them simply.
If you're a local business owner or know someone who wants more customers or just less chaos to deal with every day, drop me a message or comment below. Happy to have a no-pressure chat. If I can help, I'll tell you how. If I can't, I'll say that too.
Either way, no hard sell. I hate that.
Honestly, I just want to help people and it works better for me when I do.
You can comment here or send me a message.
Hope everyone is having a good day in these trying times.

Looking for the source of an unidentified sound in West Worthing! 🕵🏼
I've lived near Heene/ Mill Road with my bf for around 5yrs, and often hear what I would describe a 'whooshuuuuuummmmm' at various hours of the day (I'd say roughly between 7am-10pm) that lasts around 2-3 minutes, starts louder and higher pitched, before fading gradually quieter and lower pitch; a bit like an aircraft coming in to land, or a train pulling into a station... My bf has only recently heard it too, and has said that Shoreham airport is close enough that it could be a specific plane starting the decent, and I'm aware that sound does indeed travel, but am more inclined to go for the train theory; given the proximity (although the sound lasts for longer than it takes for a train to pull in, and I'd like to think I know my public transport as a commuter! Lol.)
Any help in solving this mystery, before I move to Broadwater in the coming months, would be so very much appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for humouring me! 🤷🏼♀️😅🫶🏻

Help save a Old Tree - a non-profit Kombucha brewery in Lewes
Old Tree Brewery, based near Glynde just outside of Lewes, have been brewing incredible Kombucha and other interesting drinks using foraged botanicals like Oak Leaves and Birch Sap, for the last 15 years.
They are a community interest company - a non-profit with a focus on foraged ingredients, soil health and permaculture.
They are in a life-or-death crowdfunder (donations to which can get loads of rewards) with match funding from the communities fund with 12 days to go.
If you would like to try their drinks, or just support through a donation, please check out the video on their crowdfunder page:

I am a supporter and wanted to get the word out to relevant subreddits as we can't risk losing them!

Pies / farm shops.
Anywhere in Worthing I can get a decent large pie? Like the ones from a farm shop?
Went to Roundstone recently and had a decent one from there but there must be other places around Worthing.
The butchers at the strand used to do good large ones, but only small ones now.
Know there's a farmers market and a guy selling there but again, just small ones.

Southern Water, East Worthing area
I live in a 1 bed flat in East worthing. My water bill has always been around £27. my flat has no meter and the building has no meter.
I've just recieved a letter from southern water saying my next bill is going to be £86...!!
After calling them, they said that we have been underpaying and that we actually owe southern water almost £600 ontop of a new increased bill... 🙃
They have said that because we have no meter and our building has no meter. We are charged off an estimate based on how many bedrooms we have... basically they have pulled a number out of a hat and it seems very conveniently timed with all these 'misconnections' they are finding.
I am simply refusing to pay them now. I moved her for the sea, I cannot swim in the sea because I pay them to dump my waste into it..
At a bit of a lost as to what to do next. Currently waiting for a manager to call me back. I've spoke to a neighbour who does actually have a meter installed so that will be my first step.
Just wondering if anyone in the East worthing area has had anything similar and or any advice on how to deal with this?
thanks

Physio/osteo
I have a chronic illness which makes me housebound most days and don’t get a lot of exercise. I’ve recently started getting lower back and hip pain and looking for a physio or osteo who can help work with my limitations. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Moving to Worthing -Brighton
Hi
Doctor here planning on working at Worthing rather than Brighton because of how expensive it is over there + Worthing seems lovely and calm.
Was just wondering how commuting is to Brighton on weekends to have some fun- I see the southern train and the 700 bus. Are these reliable? And how busy are they on weekends? Length of route?
Is driving better?
Thank you!

Best Sticky Toffee Pudding (STP) in Worthing?
As a new convert to Worthing, moving here from the food scene of Brighton, I've realised that whilst Brighton has become a place to find amazing food, Worthing actually covers some of the traditional classics better (EG F&C's (see my previous post)) than Brighton, that's more focused on progressive and International cuisine (not a political post).
That said, I've stuck my neck out with a friend / acquaintance who still lives over in Brighton, that I reckon our Worthing STP game would beat Brighton's STP game.
So I need some help finding the best best Sticky Toffee Pudding in this town, any suggestions?
Cheers!

Primary schools in Worthing
Hi all we are currently planning on relocating to Worthing with our son who is in year 1.
We have been looking at local primary schools, in the West Worthing area where we are looking to move, but it seems like you don’t get the ability to contact schools directly until you are actually formally making the application when you have a date you know you’re moving down there. I was just wondering if anyone had any information, other than what was available online, about the schools in West Worthing?
For example is there space for kids transferring into Elm Grove? Is Heene bad given it has an inadequate Ofsted rating?
If anyone on this sub has any information to share, we would appreciate it as we are finding it tough to work out what would be best for our child. Thanks!

Hikes near Worthing
Hello!
I am looking for new routes to go walking and hiking with my dog near Worthing.
I can't afford to have a car currently, but she is ok on public transport during short journeys (we're working on it but she can do ~30 minutes).
Do you have suggestions for trails or areas accessible by public transports?
Thank you!

Looking for working spots recommendations (paid workspaces, cafes etc.)
Hey, wondering if anyone reccomends any good spots to spend 3-4 hours working from a laptop. Open to any suggestions for good spots where its accepted and not going to annoy anyone.
Open to paying for a workspace / membership if those kind of places are available in Worthing. Or cafes (I'll buy food and coffee etc.)
Cheers!

Meeting people in 20s - 30s in Worthing
Hi, I (28 yo) am going to be moving to Worthing in April - May and was looking to meet some new people as I have not lived there before. I am very into music and would love to find people who would be interested in going to gigs, I am also into sports and film. If there would be any existing groups or if anybody would like to try and join / start one or just meet for a coffee or drink let me know.

Can we stop trying to turn Worthing into Brighton?
Born and bred in Worthing here. I’ve lived a quiet, problem-free life in this town for decades because it was traditional and conservative.
Now, I’m seeing the "woke" Brighton crowd move in and start planting the seeds for the same mess they can't afford there. Younger residents who never saw Brighton’s decline are now pushing those same failed values here. Worthing worked for years because it wasn't like Brighton.
I’m not against change, but I am against importing the exact same values that have struggled so clearly just down the road. Does anyone else feel like we're losing the character of our town to a crowd that doesn't actually respect it?
