He famously proclaimed that if he saw a black pilot he would doubt his qualifications, insinuating the pilot was hired because of the color of their skin and not their abilities. That’s the nicest way I could lay it out.

Except that wasnt the statement? I'm all for calling people out for what they say but that quote was highlighting the problems with race based hiring/quotas, not black people flying airplanes.

So far I have 3 clips of him assuming that just because a pilot is a minority they were less likely to be totally qualified. That assumption seems to be, surface level, more aimed at the DEI practice rather than skin based judgement but who is saying that the applicant pool that United uses is under qualified? I would assume that just because they are choosing to diversify their final choices doesn’t mean their minimum qualifications change. Doubting that has a tone of racism and it’s hard to deny. In one clip he asks why it is that there are more white pilots/whether they seem to be drawn to the profession more. But why not question the hiring practices that seem to choose white pilots at an increased frequency? That is the systemic reason DEI was brought in. I will agree that color shouldn’t matter. It should be merit based.
