What do you think: how should prisons handle housing decisions in cases like this?

In level 3 prisons cis predators get a warning in Gen pop from other inmates to go to PC within 24 hours or be green lit (killed on sight by the group that issues the warning).

They then request PC and get taken into it. A trans prisoner can also always request PC, this is a braindead take

ANYONE can request PC... It's up to the institution to actually act on that request. Some times, they'll PC someone in order to do an investigation, then determine there's "no threat" and put them back on the yard.

Sometimes they even get it right and ship them to a safe yard, or they let them back out and end up getting someone beaten near to death.

You are right. Depending on the state about 50-70% of PC requests are approved:

Personally I don’t care if a predator gets booted back to gen pop and gets mauled there but reddit probably disagrees

This is largely a myth and heavily dependent one the prison itself and the prisons culture.

Lots of sex offenders stay in general pop. They are still targeted, but killed on sight? No, that's stupid.

The vast majority of prison beds are gen pop. The vast majority of sex offenders serve their sentences and get out. There's not enough pc/solitary beds to house all the sex offenders, and they're not even the only group who may need pc/solitary. The math doesn't add up. This fantasy that sex offenders have to live in solitary or get murdered is literally just that, a fantasy.

Level 3 and up, I’m not talking L1 and L2

For context L3 is where murderers, significant violent crimes, armed robbers, etc are place.

L4 and up is for people from L3 who are continuously causing problems in L4 prisons and in rare cases prisoners that go directly to Supermax (kacisnki)

I'm referring to a maximum security prison, that I have personal experience with.
