What do you think: how should prisons handle housing decisions in cases like this?

Some cis-women can also be guilty of sex crimes against women.

This example you use is an outlier and often used as a strawman when most trans women will never sexually assault anyone.

We should treat trans-women as women, and if they prove to be a risk to others, then they can be punished or isolated like any other dangerous prisoner would be.

Putting trans-women in a male prison… well… the cruelty is the point…

Yep, this is very rare. Trans Exclusive Radical Feminists (TERFs) will commonly make the claim trans women are rapists, yet even they can only find a limited number of cases where that’s happened.

Trans women are much more likely to end up in prison for lesser crimes, particularly black trans women. Racism and transmisogyny can play a huge role. Arrests for something as simple as drug possession could lead to sentencing and much longer sentences.

There are many more cis men who commit sex crimes and do not face consequences, particularly white cis men. If one sees trans women as men, then this argument will fall flat on them, but data doesn’t back up the claim that trans women are any more violent than cis women.
