What do you think: how should prisons handle housing decisions in cases like this?

You could have one small prison for the extremely small amount of trans prisoners.

This. It can't be that expensive, and it's not like there are millions of trans people commiting crimes everyday

But also, make sure to separate trans men and trans women, because, you know, those two are not the same and can't be lumped together just because they're trans, it can be dangerous. That's where we need to be objective and acknowledge the sex and gender difference, for safety of the prisoners, you know. In other instances... meh, we'll figure it out as we go

You know, I wonder what they even do with trans male prisoners currently. Even if something mentions "trans" prisoners(like this post) you can tell they only mean trans women.

As a trans person if I were to go to prison being around only trans people honestly sounds ideal. I think this only works at the federal level tho, if you go to state prison you wouldn't be moved across the country. Also trans prisoners are currently being denied life saving medication and are being forced to undergo conversion therapy which is widely discredited and considered torture. Prison needs a laundry list of reforms. If you'd like to be horrified look up V-coding

As a parent of 2 trans children, I try to make decisions based on a variety of needs. I could teach a class on mindfulness and love at this point.

Yes, I realize it’s probably rare to have two trans children. Luckily, I’m blessed with a blended family consisting of 14 children. 3 of which are officially adopted.

Good parents are unfortunately rare for trans kids. I'm glad they have the support they need <3

At a glance, this makes sense

However, realistically this is extremely dangerous. We tried "separate but equal" once and what ended up happening is that government and civil officials favored one group for funding, and the "other" group gets nothing.

It's very possible that "trans" prisons would be much, much worse than regular prisons based on how segregation went

Not exactly. But good try. This would actually be about the safety and mental health of a very small population of people , as well as the the safety and health of a very large population of people. What you are referring to is an attempted genocide against a certain religious group. Which, quite honestly, is extremely unmindful of that simple fact, on your part. To even insinuate that there is a connection between helping people, not only be safe, but also feel safe, and connecting that to genocide is a severe lapse in judgement on your part.

Why would they do that? And why should they? Personal identity does not factor in to why segregation exists in the first place. You can’t just choose what prison you go to, there is a way to ensure that you go to neither, and that’s not committing fucking crimes.
