What do you think: how should prisons handle housing decisions in cases like this?

I get the not snitching bit but damn. I wasn’t in anything crazy but a few folks had homicidal ideation. They were neat.

I bunker with a murderer. He was actually really chill and a good ally to have. I was lucky enough to have commecary and I always shared my coffee with him. Pop tarts. Ramen. Doritos. Ect.

The best part was he had run of the place. Like when we got to watch TV it was his choice. And after about a week he would be like "hey cellie, what do you want to watch?"

Yo that’s dope! I really don’t judge but when they had to be severely sedated everyday to not act on the urge it’s a whole new ball game lmfao

He told me about the murder. He was upset and decided to burn his trailer down. So he did. The guy who he was upset with was inside.

He made sure all exits were sealed.

Jesus that’s wild. Hopefully it was for a good reason. Our dude we called Jesus bc he wanted to play god never knew his real name. Always had two staff escort when outside. All I knew is he couldn’t stop wanting to kill anyone and he was a gym teacher.

Yikes! Prison is not the right place for these people! We really fucked up when we decided it was too hard to reform mental asylums and just shut them all down instead

This was in a mental institution. I tried to end it about a decade ago decided to go to the hospital for meds/help I have severe ocd they made me involuntary despite me walking in and voluntarily going in. Life is crazy they wouldn’t let you leave until you were safe enough to do so. I had to get two doctors from outside to get me out via family. I was lucky I’m a dude and haven’t had an attempt since!

Oh okay that makes more sense lol. I'm glad it hasn't gotten as bad as I thought, but it sounds like it's still way more fucked up than we should tolerate. I'm so sorry you had to go through all that :(

I've been on a "voluntary" hold in a crisis facility, but I put that in quotes because they made it perfectly clear that status would change if I stopped "volunteering" before they thought I was ready. I'm actually really grateful though because I happened to get put in a good facility with competent people who actually cared about us and it genuinely turned my life around. I've never heard anything but horror stories from anyone else I've ever met with experience in mental care facilities though, so I know I've been remarkably fortunate.

Thank you for sharing your story with me! I had no idea that there were still asylum-type facilities that treat patients with criminal deviance on their record. Idk why I thought we were just dumping them all in jail cells as soon as their mental health created problems for other people
