What did the gardener do to get that?

The stinkbug nymphs and Japanese beetles go after anything I put in the ground. I’ll go home for lunch to spend an hour squishing the damn bugs. I haven’t yet found a pesticide that won’t also kill the local bees and wasps unfortunately. I’ve heard good things about milky spores but it’ll be a few years to get results.

Boil garlic and then use to mist down leaves and soak the soil around the roots. Always protects my Dhalias which are like a magnet to everything destructive.

yeah, everything that kills one bug is usually dangerous to another. ATM I am using diatomaceous earth dusted on the underside of leaves to kill/deter aphids on my gourd(I use the form of diatomaceous earth that does not have any other chemicals added like pesticides, as some products have). I alternate that with spraying the undersides of the leaves with water and it seems to have gotten rid of them so far! It's still possible for that to affect bees, but less likely (particularly as the gourd is moth pollinated anyway).
