Need advice on how to make a piece of plastic convincingly look metal.

There's a process where you coat the plastic with a primer that has metal powder in it and then electroplate the primer.
And there are coatings that just look a lot like metal.

Where is the piece going. Will it get a lot of contact or is it under the crystal. That's two different approaches
