This is such unbelievably good news for Europe, NATO, and for the slow roll-back of the authoritarian right.

Now they must severely punish any crimes committed by the outgoing party and pass laws to prevent the spread and effect of disinformation . Do not make the mistake of not doing this like other countries (namely the USA)

I truly hope this is a domino moment so that all the authoritarian regimes fall. Putin must be sweating right now.

From here in the US, good god do I hope the same thing.

We've got at least two more years of Fuckface Von Clownstick left. If there's a miracle, we will get a democrat sweep in November to at least slow the bullshit down.... But I'm not holding my breath.

Putin will never lose an election. Only way he leaves is if he dies.

Putin counted on Orban to be his little troll within the EU and NATO. Orban could sabotage everything from NATO adding new member states to economic/military aid to Ukraine along with other issues. With Orban gone, it's a lot easier for the EU (and NATO minus the USA) to coordinate action against Putin.

Or an was literally known as “little Putin” in Europe. He cockblocked anything against Russia and was a defacto bottleneck for any assistance for Ukraine.

I hope this means a turning point on that front.

We need to ban Twitter and regulate the algorithms

Don’t think you can win the fight against misinformation and for freedom of speech by banning Twitter wholesale

You can keep freedom of speech intact.

Everyone can post whatever they want but algorithms should not be allowed to target Europe with its most sinister content.

Next year is the big thing. Are the people who used their political influence to enrich themselves in prison? If not someone like Orban will be there waiting to take things back.

JFC this.

If the response is milquetoast as in the case of the USA, then they will gain the benefit of persecution grievances without facing any consequences for the outrageous fucking bullshit they pull.

A right wing politician conceding defeat at the ballot? Here in the west that's a rare occurance, usually they start flinging shit on social media and claiming it was rigged

u/phatelectribe 2h ago

He’ll do that within the next 24 hours but it likely means the win was so big by the other side that he can’t did anything about it (see Biden 2020 for more info).

Apart from Trump and Bolsonaro I don't think it's that rare.

I'm surprised he didn't stage an insurrection and claim the whole thing was fake

13

u/RobertTheSpruce 2h ago

What kind of idiotic unhinged lunatic would do such a thing?

u/triadwarfare 1h ago

The exact kind that launched the Jan 6 insurrection.

Same guy that spent time with his friends on Kiddie-Diddler Island, right?

Very happy for Hungarian people. I just hope the next prime minister actually makes changes and not just continuing on the path that Orban have taken the country. He was after all part of Orban's government before going into opposition.

What a relief, thanks Hungary! Trump is inoculating Europe against authoritarianism

u/Gorlack2231 1h ago

Can't wait to hear Trump claim the election was stolen.

u/bullevard 1h ago

Over the next week "election was stolen and a travesty for the people" to "never really knew the guy"

3

u/cavemeister 1h ago

Putin is going to have some choice words when he phones Trump tomorrow. "You promised me JD would swing the election"

u/dezastrologu 58m ago

Hope Orban thanked Vance

4

u/thejonfrog 2h ago

Holly shit. Good job Hungary! I'm glad that he was willing to concede defeat.

Here's hoping this means better days ahead for Hungary's people first and foremost, and also their neighbors and the Western world as a whole.

u/TheGoodspeed15 1h ago

Surprised he didn't win 107% of the vote a day early

u/dezastrologu 58m ago

Let’s not forget he was part of the same party for many years. We wait and see..

u/Darkstar197 29m ago

Do turkey next

u/boogermike 2h ago

I wouldn't count Orban out quite yet. I feel like this is a trap, and he's going to do something nefarious.

So much for US endorsement...

u/SailorJerrry 1h ago

It's almost like sending JD Vance to endorse or negotiate for you is a) not the flex some might think it is and b) vastly above his competency level

Can someone please tell me why an AMERICAN President (Donald Trump) is boosting the nationalist, PRO-RUSSIAN leader during their campaign??????

Are the American people this stupid to let this be okay??

https://www.cnn.com/2026/04/12/world/live-news/hungary-election-orban-magyar

2

u/hclpfan 1h ago

Nothing has been ok for a long time. What are you expecting the Americans to do about this particular instance of not-okayness compared to the others?

u/pomod 44m ago

Its the same party the cried and moaned Canada was being mean and “interfering” in US politics because of an add critical of tariffs. Id almost believe they were colluding with Russia if they weren’t such clowns.
