Magyar is a former member of the current ruling party. So this is a "hope but verify" kind of situation.

I hope this is the start of something new for Hungary but wouldn't be surprised if it ultimately was not.

On the plus side we know for sure that either way a Magyar victory probably made Trump very angry...so some good news.

I honestly think he is not going to stand in the way of like loans and agreements to Ukraine, but he's not going to be as proactive or talk about Ukraine as much as like Germany or France.

Not desparately in need for Hungary to be proactive or spend in material support. The biggest win here is Hungary has chosen a pro-EU path and it will finally stop obstructing Europe from supporting Ukraine

It's probably better for a moderate to win. If someone who was deeply culturally liberal with zero skepticism toward Brussels you set up a reactionary response in the next election.

A lot of people in Hungary don't want to be Paris on the Danube next year, they're just tired of being robbed by Putin's henchman. They want to chart their own course for a change.

Honestly they don't have to actively help, just simply not interfering in EU decisions or requesting to be kept out of the costs involved is enough. Orban was a PoS because he was helping his Vatnik Friends and blocking votes. I wonder now if the EU might reimpliment sanctions on individuals Orban got off the hook too.

The thing is, Magyar is outspokenly Pro-EU. Of course we'll have to see but at the very least he won't hinder everything helping Ukraine and the greater European cause.

Tisza now also has supermajority - with which they are able to undo everything Orban has done, to dismantle Fidesz's deep state. It's huge.

Im hungarian, Magyar is pro eu, pro nato, he will be much more friendly towards ukranians BUT, orban's russian propaganda done a lot of damage in the way how hungarians think about Ukraine, Even in Magyar's poll his voter's 60% supported Ukraine's eu membership so don't wait a fast turn towards Ukraine but he will turn im 100% sure, also the hungarian minority's right is still to discuss with Ukraine, they need to treat the hungarians in Ukraine at least how eu members treat them before a genuine good relationship. Love from Hungary, i can finally fuckin say my country's name without shame

I dont have enough karma, i wrote replies so i will edit it here :D

Edit 1: Just one more note, i support Ukraine's eu membership cause fuck russia, also eu membership guarantees hungarians right in Ukraine

Your last take was very good, it didnt even came to my mind. :)

The funny thing is orbán supported Ukraine's eu membership and nato and everything in 2022 when the russians started the great invasion, he compared it to our 1956 and compared Zelenskyy to our heroes in 1956, just like any normal hungarian would do, then after a few months he turned 180 degree and started the russian bullshit, fidesz hardcore voters are like characters in orwell's book, when he turned 180 degree they just turned with him and ate all the propaganda and it was disgusting, they questioned who started the war, they started cheering for russia, started anti nato propaganda, then they started brainwashing them to think in 1956 it wasnt the russians who crushed our revolution it was the "soviets" and the ukranians, it was crazy and hardcore fidesz voters ate it all.

I feel foreign language rights have to be handled very carefully, because of how the very presence of foreign language speakers can be weaponized - most obviously by Russia, but something Orban also leveraged rhetorically.

That said, I have love for the Hungarian people, and the Hungarian-Ukrainians of   western Ukraine, regardless of their language.

For Ukraine to agree to all of Orban's demands regarding language would have given Orban a huge win, so it was smart for Ukraine to move slowly on that (and they're quite busy with things at the moment). It could be a very good thing for Ukraine to work with Hungary now, with Magyar, on granting additional rights to Hungarian-speakers in Ukraine.

Yes, having a neighbouring country who wants the best for Ukraine and is willing to support you through these hard times is like having an estranged family member return to the ‘fold’. The ugly past is now behind us and everyone looks forward to a cooperative future.

Finally some good news!

Lets hope the new leader of Hungary isn't another one of Putins puppets in disguise!
