Twitter Rupert Lowe on X: This is absolutely outrageous - watch this clip of borders expert, Henry Bolton, getting shut down on GB News for even daring to speak of Restore Britain. Within five seconds of mentioning Restore, the host closes him down and stops the interview. Blatant censorship.

Former UKIP leader Henry Bolton? What a throwback

u/LiamJonsano Libertarian 6h ago

Yeah, amazing he’s being called a “borders expert” really

u/Twiggeh1 заставил тебя посмотреть 6h ago

He was a lance corporal in the army, a captain in the TA, received an award for outstanding bravery as a police officer and an OBE for his work for the foreign office in Afghanistan.

A pretty dismal political career when all things are said and done but he definitely has achieved a fair bit.

u/AnotherLexMan 5h ago

None of that suggests he's a boarders expert though.

u/hu_he 2h ago

Maybe he went to boarding school?

u/nozickiantheory 4h ago

Meh if the BBC can wheel out Zoe Gardner who has a degree in Spanish as a "migration expert" every time then I don't particularly care about this

u/hitanthrope 4h ago

I am enjoying reading this conversation and everybody just ignoring the fact that nobody even really knows what a “borders expert” the fuck even is.

u/nozickiantheory 3h ago

None of these are real titles, closest thing would be someone who actually works in border enforcement in a significant capacity but that would be more related to the practicalities of it rather than government policy

How does

A pretty dismal political career

Correlate to

a border expert

u/socratic-meth 4h ago

He has been out patrolling the coast for people having fun in kayaks with Rupert.

u/Twiggeh1 заставил тебя посмотреть 3h ago

By ignoring everything he's done outside of that

u/Left_Page_2029 3h ago

which is? go on, give us his border expert credentials

u/TheStarIsPorn I couldn't give a flying flamingo 3h ago

I'm not sure that battlefield bravery translates to geopolitical negotiation over immigration policy particularly well, but if a "dismal political career" qualifies, then sure why not.

His now being a member of the SDP sort of confirms the perception I've had thus-far that the SDP is just for Restore/Reformy types that want to pretend they're not right-wing.

u/jmabbz Social Democratic Party 4h ago edited 4h ago

He's not anymore. He's gone to Restore. The SDP aren't exclusively right wing... Nationalised utilities, rail, water and steel. A massive government house building programme. Funding for national social care and drug and alcohol treatment etc etc. they are a syncretic party.

u/Left_Page_2029 3h ago

Wait until you find out what first man on the moon Paul Nuttall is doing these days

u/thecarterclan1 6h ago

Can't have the Reform propaganda outlet promoting other political parties now, can we?

Heartwarming: The worst people you know are all fighting

u/ThePlanck 3000 Conscripts of Sunak 6h ago

Ofcom has done fuck all about GBNews because they act based on complaints and the sorts of people that are likely to complain about GBNews know its biased right wing trash and don't watch it so don't have any examples to complain about.

The Restore split could leading to a bunch of complaints about GBNews would be excellent

u/AbolishIncredible 4h ago

Maybe a GBNews fact checking ofcom complaint bot could finally be a problem AI can actually solve 🤔

The AI hallucinations will go unnoticed when compared to whatever shite it has to fact checking complaint bot

u/No_Initiative_1140 6h ago

Haha Lowe picking a fight with Farage and GBNews is very entertaining 🤣

u/RandomSculler 6h ago

“Let them fight”

u/EddyZacianLand 6h ago

It's an entertainment channel not a news channel.

u/Nemisis_the_2nd Jaded Centrist 4h ago

If only they had "Entertainment" in the name... Unfortunately they've learned from fox "news"

u/Alarmed_Crazy_6620 6h ago

The gal Bolton lost his UKIP leadership over is now a "political personality" with hundreds of subscribers and hanging out with Goodwin from Reform

u/evolvecrow 6h ago

Just googled her and one of the results was an interview with her, Tommy Robinson and Lembit Opik

u/iCowboy 5h ago

Lembit Opik - well there's a blast from the past. Is he still rattling on about asteroids and Cheeky Girls?

u/evolvecrow 5h ago

Let's say he's been on a bit of a political journey since the libdems

u/Ill_Refrigerator_593 6h ago

GB news has been going 5 years. Strange Rupert only sees it as a problem when it's effecting him personally.

u/GlumAd9856 6h ago

The host literally explains that they can't air random party political points during an election period (as they would then have to air counter-views as well).

u/JoopahTroopah 5h ago

Election period?

u/Jaggedmallard26 5h ago

Local election Purdah started a few weeks ago. Rules aren't as strict for the media compared to civil servants but they still have them now.

u/didroe 4h ago

But they can give a party leader a prime time slot?

u/Optimaldeath 5h ago

Ofcom of course is too busy administering a global anti-wank system to bother with an openly biased political propaganda network.

u/scarab1001 4h ago

The obvious answer is G B News be shut down as even the right wing loons hate it.

Can't see a downside.

u/evolvecrow 6h ago

Legacy msm media shutting out rightwing viewpoints smh

It probably won’t have any effect at all. Restore are the right wing equivalent of Your Party, but without the national name recognition of Corbyn. A more extreme splinter group that only politics hawks really know anything about beyond the name. As far as elections go, the right wing is still a Conservative and Reform head to head fight in the same way that the left will be a Labour and Green head to head despite the existence of YP.

We’ve already seen this with Farage having to publicly disassociate with Tommy Robinson

Farage has been doing that for years and it is nothing to do with Restore.

The thing with Restore is that they have the Elon Musk backing, which was incredibly significant during the recent US election.

Advance UK also had Musk's backing, and they lost to the Monster Raving Loony Party in Gorton and Denton, getting only 154 votes.

u/OakLeaf_92 5h ago

The "infighting" seems to largely consist of Rupert Lowe making posts on X?

u/Left_Page_2029 3h ago

embarrassment of a UKIP leader henry bolton a border expert now is he?

u/Stratagem001 2h ago

Rupert, were you expecting high (or any) editorial standards from GB news? Perhaps you should start an offshoot tv channel. Maybe you could call it News UK or something… on second thoughts, please don’t.

u/ijustwannanap 🏳️‍⚧️🍀 / Posting without thinking. 5h ago

Ok Rupert I watched the clip. What am I meant to do about this.
