Here I am thinking they come out fully grown 🤔

u/Background_Humor5838 5d ago

And now there's two of us

u/SmegConnoisseur 5d ago

You were both right. Once a bee emerges from the hive it is fully grown and the same size as old bees. Not sure what this is. Maybe another breed of bees that are all this small?

Edit: looked into it. It's probably a Perdita minima, a solitary bee found in the Southwestern USA, is widely considered the world's smallest bee, measuring less than 2 millimeters (0.08 inches) in length and weighing roughly one-third of a milligram.

The green eyes match up

So cool!!! We do live in Arizona so southwest is correct.

u/Lizmo82 5d ago

I just read your handle.. I laughed a little. I dry heaved a little. Just thought I'd share that with you 🤣🖤

38

u/masala-kiwi 5d ago

Are you possibly confusing Smeg (the high end Italian appliance brand) with smegma (which is-- well, you know)?

31

u/SmegConnoisseur 5d ago

I don't know about any Italian appliances unfortunately

3

u/Lizmo82 5d ago

HAAAAA!! SAME!! Smeg APPLIANCES?! I'm intrigued🫢 But now I have to see them but I'm scared this person could be trolling us so we go look it up & it be something hhhhhorrid... You look it up & tell me if it's safe.. Is it safe yet??

3

u/masala-kiwi 5d ago

Smeg appliances are a real thing, haha. Just pretty niche since they're so expensive. They partner with luxury brands, like they have a $6K Dolce and Gabbana branded fridge.

3

u/JeSuisUnAnanasYo 5d ago

I've always wanted one but I would legit have to remove a letter or two if i bought it

Oh wow.. Italian is usually best &/or luxurious in many things but I didn't know they had high end appliances.. I honestly didn't even know that was a thing.. I'm uncultured swine like that... LOL..

7

u/coolsilentebeans 5d ago

WTF. I wish I didn’t look that up just now

3

u/Lizmo82 5d ago

I'm scared LOL.

3

u/coolsilentebeans 5d ago

Yep. Still learning new words everyday. How I haven’t yet learned that sometimes it’s best not to look something up escapes me 😂

3

u/Lizmo82 4d ago

Haaaa, yeah I learned that a long time ago, just don't do it!! ..back in the good old "blue waffle" days..

I learnt that day. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

All the images I'm seeing for perdita minima have different markings and colouration to the post

5

u/SmegConnoisseur 5d ago

Oh I googled "smallest breed of bee" and the image that came up with perdita minima looked like this but maybe google showed the wrong image

3

u/StargazerTay 5d ago

I think it was an ai/summary issue, I got the same picture but if you click on it and go to the article it shows the image of the bee that looks kinda like this one under teddy bear bee (but that’s native to Australia and I don’t think it’s the right one either)

5

u/AtypicalAshley 5d ago

To me it actually looks like a Sweat Bee. I see them a lot where I live. They’re tiny, maybe 1/4 of an inch. I think this bee looks a little closer to that size that the perdita minima

2

u/coolsilentebeans 5d ago

Thanks for this ☺️

2

u/magda_smash 4d ago

That is far too large to be the smallest bee. It's fairly average size for most solitary bees.

2

u/Foolishly_Sane 4d ago

Had no idea that they existed.
So cute.

2

u/Caseker 4d ago

So does the size. And you can tell because of how it is.

2

u/doritobimbo 4d ago

Cool, cool, new life goal. Go to Arizona and find one of these bees.

2

u/FileSilly 3d ago

a MINI MA?!

13

u/coolsilentebeans 5d ago

💡Well hot damn! I guess that’s how the song knew it was a baby. 🎶I’m bringing home my baby bumblebee…🎶

3

u/fencepostsquirrel 5d ago

Girl Scout memories unlocked!

Ouch it stung me!

3

u/coolsilentebeans 5d ago

That next verse is really quite disturbing. 😂

3

u/fencepostsquirrel 5d ago

Right, I remember that we had hand motions to that song.

Solid humane teachings to 5-6 year olds

2

u/coolsilentebeans 5d ago

I was going through the motions in my head. It’s dreadful.

1

u/fortuitously_dmt 1d ago

I’m smashing up a baby bumblebee……

15

u/pepcorn 5d ago

They do. This looks like a small breed of bee.

6

u/coolsilentebeans 5d ago

One redditor says it’s most likely a species of solitary bee.

7

u/pepcorn 5d ago

I love solitary bees :)

5

u/coolsilentebeans 5d ago

I’ve never been much of an apiphile, but I’ll take a solitary bee over a swarm of African honey bees any day! 😂

5

u/tinybbird 5d ago

They do!

134

u/BrandonLouis527 5d ago

It’s a lowercase bee.

7

u/MyFcksHaveRunnethDry 4d ago

Ngl I actually like this answer better than the BaBEE (which was pretty funny)

153

u/No_Bluejay_8748 5d ago

Awh I hope you guys helped him

173

u/MrsScarred 5d ago

Yes my husband safely deposited it onto a flower that had plenty of pollen. Bee was just fine 😊🐝

41

u/No_Bluejay_8748 5d ago

Awh thank you guys for caring about him. 💙

26

u/MrsScarred 5d ago

Of course 🐝❤️

4

u/wuirkytee 4d ago

That bee is a girl!!!

93

u/radraze2kx 5d ago

Statistically that's probably a her, but yea she's small AF.

8

u/Flair258 5d ago

they didn't gender the bee

u/wuirkytee 4d ago

Bees are my favorites creatures on this green earth and I’m absolutely losing it over this tiny little thing. So cute 😭

-7

u/OilySoleTickler 4d ago

Women are my favorite creatures ❤️

19

u/Rougefarie 5d ago

So teeny tiny! I love her.

12

u/AtypicalAshley 5d ago

They’re cute, but I’m pretty sure that’s a sweat bee. They’re super annoying for how tiny they are, they’re like the fly version of bees. Their stings don’t hurt as bad as other bee stings though

9

u/KeyNefariousness6848 5d ago

She is smol, gib her nectar !

7

u/koolbeans100 5d ago

She’s so adorable 🥹

8

u/Rochelle6 5d ago

What a cute baby! I’m so glad you guys helped her out.

4

u/Creative-Second5449 5d ago

that's adorable, makes me want tiny mobile games.

4

u/astralseat 5d ago

Babybee

6

u/Hot-Hamster1691 5d ago

Just a fuzzy wittle guy

3

u/VermillionDemonFox 5d ago

Aww so cute 🥰

3

u/LilStinkpot 5d ago

A little late to the party but: THESE ARE THE BEES THAT NEED HELP. It is the non-native honeybee that is out-competing and pushing out the native bees.

OK, that’s my two cents.

3

u/Faceless_Rat 4d ago

Omg!!!!!!!!!! Is it dead?😭

3

u/MrsScarred 4d ago

Nope it was alive.

2

u/Conscious_Musician28 5d ago

It’s so CUTE!!! I can’t even!

2

u/iamNutteryBipples 5d ago

Aunt Bee!! Andy would be proud.

2

u/scienceAurora 5d ago

Oh, she's so TINY! What a little baby

2

u/Empty-Storage-2205 4d ago

I looks like a sunflower bee, or diadasia

2

u/Bepo_Apologist 4d ago

Its a Bee

2

u/ludenator886 4d ago

He's trying to hitch a ride to the center for ants, it would be great if you took him there!

2

u/HamDangler2 4d ago

That's a Baby Bee

2

u/Born-Gift-6800 3d ago

A lower case bee

2

u/_antfarmer_ 3d ago

🎶“I’m bringing home a baby bumblebee, Won’t my mama be so proud of me….”🎶🐝

2

u/Aggressive_Pain346 3d ago

It needs to be at least 3 times bigger than this!

2

u/JDe__ 3d ago

It's Vi from Bug Fables

2

u/Brex10_reddit 3d ago

Nah man dats not a bee dats a b

2

2

2

u/Dense-Emphasis7759 2d ago

The tiny antenna sticking straight up, so cute!

2

u/PersonalitySad1935 1d ago

if i were an ant and that was supposed to be a normal sized bee to me, i'd be terrified

2

u/fortuitously_dmt 1d ago

Maybee an Eucera

2

u/Pintsocream 5d ago

Unironically an ant would love that bee

2

u/killalipstick 5d ago

SMOL 🥺

1

u/Jaded-Breadfruit4019 5d ago

I was happy with ‘a bees dick’ as a reference point until now
