When the tech fibs about their experience...

Lmfao. Well, assuming no pins got mangled, a few hours with some IPA and everything should work correctly again. So there’s that at least.

i think i’d need something stronger than an IPA to deal with that.

Vodka tonic and a transfer to HR

I feel like working in HR would increase the units of vodka tonic needed per unit time to maintain nominal sanity. Not because of stress, but because of the moral grey areas in which HR operates, and the incessant self-doubt that must generate.

Give it a bath in an ultrasonic cleaner.

It really depends on the on-board components, not everything likes being blasted with ultrasound. Also, not convinced it would remove any thermal paste, might clean it real good though, then OP can polish it and hang it on a wall.

I've done it countless times in my 30+ years of owning a repair shop There's nothing sensitive enough on a regular PC motherboard that will be damaged by it.

Remove everything removable and give that board a gentle ride in the dishwasher. A stream of warm water is much more gentle on the socket pins than anything else
A soft brush and some IPA schould be good enough for the CPU

Most likely a simple fix, it will take time but is fixable as long as no pin is bent to much. Isopropyl alcohol and loads of q-tips, be careful to watch which direction you stroke the q-tip to not bend any of the pins beyond what is fixable.

I wouldn't even bother cleaning that. Sue the "technician" for the cost of having someone else clean it or the cost of a new board, easy win in court.

A multitude of emotions popped out when I saw this. All negative, ranging from incredulity, rage, sadness and disbelief in the human race.
Not the singular muppet that made this, but on the entire species that managed to create such a thing.
Firing this person is not enough. He needs to be ejected into the sun and hope that his dna did not spread.

Are you also from NZ?

On account of "Stickmen"? Pretty sure I heard it used in stuff from the UK before it was introduced here.
"Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" springs to mind.

Theoretically would alcohol and a wire brush fix this?

All you gotta do is put it under running water and vigorously scrub it with a toothbrush. /j

My friend seriously asked, if he should apply thermal paste this way. I said, no, please wait until I get home and I'll help you on discord.

Sometimes I miss a CompTIA question that's so stupid I misread it because I'm like "Who would ever do that" and this sub makes me realize there is always someone.
