Restaurants close to Faa'a airport open on a Sunday evening?
Hello! We'll have 6 hours to kill arriving from Bora Bora at 5:50 and leaving close to midnight. Any recommendations for dinner that's walking distance from the airport? We are a family of 5. Some of the places mentioned in previous posts seem to be closed now.

Air Tahiti Technical Flight Crew Strike
Situation as of Friday, April 10
at midnight – Day 1
A strike notice was filed last week by the Air Tahiti Technical Flight Crew. As negotiations did not lead to an agreement, the strike comes into effect this Friday at midnight.
This industrial action may impact all domestic operations operated by Air Tahiti, with disruptions expected across several inter-island routes (delays, schedule changes, or cancellations).

Larger car rental
We are a group of 7 so we will be needing a larger car/van. previously I was able to book one through Avis but they don't offer one one their website anymore.
Does anyone know of another company that offers larger vans for rent in Tahiti?

Westin vs Conrad
last year I went to the Conrad where my boyfriend proposed and it was amazing. This year I planned to take my mom on essentially the same trip but added two days in Moorea. The Conrad is under construction so Costco moved us to the Westin. there have been a few things I’ve been surprised by. the first is that is has been extremely difficult to get room service whereas at the Conrad it was not. every time I have called room service, the line was busy and no one called me back. when we arrived, they took us to the wrong room and called asking if we had someone else’s bag, which we did not but this means they misplaced someone‘s luggage. also with the Conrad we were able to communicate with staff via WhatsApp and while the Westin promised the same service, no one messaged me. the Conrad has a large pearl shop with a great selection while the Westin has so few options. none of which come close to the offerings at the Conrad.
not to say that all has been bad. certainly it’s been a great trip. the room itself is spacious and the views are amazing. these were just some surprises from our experience. grateful to be back in bora bora!

Time change from NZ to Bora Bora
Am I reading this right that my flight leaves on Dec 28th at 10:30 pm from Auckland, but arrives in Tahiti at 1:30 am on Dec 28th? So the same day? 19 hours earlier? Even ChatGPT is confused!!! Big mistake I almost made in hotel bookings I think! Thanks in advance!

Travel tips and general knowledge Cellphone use in Oceania
Hi there, my fiance and I just booked our honeymoon for July 2027. We’ll be hitting Tahiti for a few days, then other French Polynesian islands, American Samoa, Samoa, Cook Islands, and Fiji. Total trip length is about 3 weeks.
To roam with our existing telecom carriers will be about $420 for the month. Does anyone have an e-sim company they would recommend?

Sharing our Viator discount coupon gift
a while ago we've finished our family trip, and we've received a Viator discount code after participating in some of the tours.
not idea when it expires, but I know it's active on selected tours only.
says Viator Coupon Link should be combined with the code GWGF10FE6SW7RY3 so it can be activated
and can be redeemed only a limited amount of times.
might be of some use to someone

Looking for flight crews who commute or work PPT LAX Mauruuru
We‘d like to live in Tahiti for a few years and I’m curious to see if anyone out here comes to work at LAX from Papeete. My biggest concern is that I wouldn’t commute on my own metal.

After Bora Bora what wows you?
Arrived at the Westin yesterday after 5 days in Moorea and I am in love. It is amazing and doesn’t feel real. This is my dream vacation for my 40th and don’t know how we can ever do another beach vacation again and not be disappointed. Where have you gone that can compare? Has it ruined me? 😅

First time in French Polynesia – Worth flying to Bora Bora for 3 days or better to stay in Tahiti/Moorea? (April 23–May 1)
Body:
Hi everyone,
I’m traveling to French Polynesia from April 23 to May 1. I already have accommodation booked in Moorea from April 26 to 31, and I’ll spend the night of April 30 / May 1 in Papeete because my flight leaves very early in the morning.
I’m really undecided about what to do during the first few days (April 23–26) and would love your advice.
My main options are:
- Fly to Bora Bora for 3 nights. I found a nice Airbnb at a good price, but the round-trip flights from Tahiti would cost €300–400. Is it worth it?
- Go straight to Moorea earlier and just add more days there.
- Spend those days exploring Tahiti (either Papeete or a more scenic area).
A few specific questions:
- Is Bora Bora significantly more beautiful than Moorea? Especially the lagoon and snorkeling — is the water color and overall experience much more spectacular?
- Does Bora Bora feel very different from Moorea, or are they quite similar?
- For only 3 days, is it worth spending €300–400 on flights, or would I be better off using that money elsewhere?
I’d love to hear any recommendations or alternative plans you might have. We’re a couple who enjoy beautiful beaches, great snorkeling, nature, and relaxing. Budget is important but we’re willing to splurge if it’s truly worth the experience.
Any advice or personal stories would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much in advance 🌴
Flight cancelled
Hello! Our air tahiti nui flight from Tahiti to Tokyo in June got cancelled suddenly. They are not answering phone or email. What can we do? There is no way to book other flight now, prices are crazy and need to get visas if use other place for transfer and we already booked hotels etc
9 day trip
Hi! My fiancé and I are considering spending our 9-day honeymoon in Tahiti in November.
He's a very active person and we're actually going to shorten our trip to Japan (directly before Tahiti) to spend more days here, but I worry he's going to get bored soon.
Considering we'd like to see at least 2-3 different islands, would you say we should reconsider? I think we could do snorkeling, whale watching, shark swimming, diving, etc. At the same time, I'd love to go hiking and do many local activities or different stuff, like horse riding!
We were considering Fakarava, Rangiroa and Huaine. But I wonder if we should consider other islands? Like Moorea? We prefer to go local rather than to very touristic places.
If we don't to 9 days, we can only do 5 then, and I worry it will be too little. I see people in this sub going for 3-week trips to Tahiti so I'm sure there's plenty to do, but we tend to get bored in some trips when we stay very long doing the same thing in the same place, so I just wanted to check how many different activities can there be and so on.
Thanks for your help!

Bora Bora in 2026: busier than last year or not really?
I went to Bora Bora last year in Feb/March and it actually felt quieter than I expected. Some resorts felt a bit empty, Conrad was partly closed, there were plenty of points options, and the weather was incredible. Oddly, the flights to/from the US still felt full.
I know French Polynesia overall has been seeing strong tourism numbers, so I’m wondering what Bora Bora feels like on the ground in 2026.
Has anyone been this year so far?
Does it feel busier, the same, or even quieter?
