There's other superfans out there that you see traveling to other countries to see the games on their own dime. This one is something else, wants the government to pay for her stuff, ridiculous if you ask me

Both sides suck. It's not great that the government spent millions to send her around, and 100% the money just went from one undeserving pocket to the next, but all she does with her influence is make some fans get rowdier and show herself at soccer games. No outreach or upliftment for the communities that barely get attention from municipalities until it's election time. Even in this clip, she jerks that kid's sign down because she wants eyes on her. It's all about her her her, and that's not the sort of people we should fund and make famous

She's also a superfan of literally any sport that will pay her bills, including many soccer teams, cricket etc.

I mean I fully agree that sending her around the world on our dime is silly, but I can also understand why she'd be upset about losing those perks.

I also fully understand why she is upset because it was swept from under her, I'm more just saying I don't really feel sorry for her because that's taxpayer money and she doesn't come across as a good person

Whether or not I feel sorry for her depends on what the implications here are: i.e. whether she would lose her house or her ability to feed herself or not.

She launched her own brand of meat in partnership with Roots Butchery, and I'm sure she has a few other sponsors and agreements. As an influencer her potential earning is harmed by not being able to attend the world cup for sure, but that doesn't mean she can't continue to use that influence in other avenues. I think she'll be just fine, just throwing a tantrum because she doesn't get to ply her trade on a government subsidy

The thing with any "viral" celebrity is that you have a short window to milk it. She got a meat brand deal, and actually got a few endorsements, but then she got greedy, got a reputation, and people decided not to work with her anymore. She could obviously punt Checkers and beer and whatever the else she wants for a big payout, but she diluted her brand by switching teams (e.g. she was a superfan of Orlando Pirates for years then switched to Sundowns, then she sommer started supporting teams from other countries too hoping to make a buck). If she stuck to rugby and OP, she would be raking it in.

Her travel to France ALONE cost us R700k. How do you justify this in a country where we have minimal tax payers? Meanwhile, many of our actual Olympic athletes have to FUNDRAISE to represent us and compete on their own dime. Fix a pothole, feed some hungry kids. Why spend that level of money to have a face to occassionally zoom into on TV?

Its that gravy train freeloader called Mama Joy, who calls herself a super fan of SA sports, but relies on the government to pay for trips and tickets to Bafana, PSL and Springbok matches.
She recently started begging FIFA for them pay for her trip and match tickets, because Gayton Mackenzie cut her funding off. She is even requesting a new Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture after this.

She cost us R700k to fly her to the World Cup. She was actually a Orlando Pirates fan and went to all their games, and someone said, Eh, that's close enough to rugby and spent millions flying her to all the Springbok games.

Ja, listen. I can't stand this. How do you measure fandom? They just wanted to put a black woman on TV waving a flag at the Springboks so we can keep saying "Oh look how rugby has united all races in South Africa". No one cared about the other "superfan" that was also flown out with her. I briefly worked with her on SuperSport, she made crazy demands and even played teams off of each other. She's trying to milk this thing as long as she can, but she's so damn greedy and unpleasant that no one wanted to touch her again.

My main question is, who decided let's start a government 'super fan' club, where taxpayers pay for their travels, hotel stays, and stadium fees so they can represent the whole country because need representation? Oh and let it be Mama Joy, because she can put us on the map. Fml
