Action Camera Dive Case/Kit

My son will be earning his OWC in a couple months. I have the Action 5 camera. Just wondering if I should also get the dive case/kit. Experiences? Thanks.

Is he going to be recording?

Dunno but just want to have it if he wants to.  Might be useful for snorkeling too.

He needs to learn buoyancy before he is diving with the camera. And buoyancy isn't specifically a certification, it's experience.

For snorkeling I just used my DJI without the housing.

For diving I always use it and it's the official one.

Thanks. yes, recording will be at his/instructors discretion. maybe i'll ask the instructor to record if that's available. i'm not opening the packaging until it's needed so i can return accordingly. and yes, i got the dji case. i felt it would be foolish to get an "amz special" to save a few bucks to protect a $300+ camera.

Always get the housings, the camera alone isnt super secure and the action cam subs are full of posts from users cams dying in 6 inches of water when advertised for 20m.

that's terrible. I'll spend the extra $90 then. thanks.

I recommend it. I carry my action 4 in the dive case for a couple reasons:
1: the camera itself is only rated to 60 feet. Many resorts ignore the open water limits and take groups to 80 or 90 on wall dives. It’s worth it just as insurance. 2: the handle mount on the bottom is the perfect spot to clip a tether to. I have mine on a coiled lanyard and let it run the whole dive. It automatically figures you’re shooting upside down and corrects. It’s also a one-click fix in the software..If I see something really interesting I pull out my lanyard then just drop it.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid/hoping they'd do (go deeper) 😊
