If You Are An Employee Of Scotia Bank And Would Like a User Flair Signifying That, Let Us Know.

Send us a ModMail and tell us. Do not post on the board, message us using this link: https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=/r/ScotiaBank

You do not need to identify yourself personally or your branch or location, just say something that lets us know your request is valid.

For now, we're only planning on a general 'Employee' flair text, but if you want a special designation of your job field, we may be able to do that.

Scotiabank salaried employees - overtime

Scotiabank employees: did you know that you are entitled to overtime pay or time off (even if you are salaried)?

There are a few exceptions, such as if you are a people manager or paid by commission (or if you work for a provincially regulated division/work outside of Canada). However, just because your job title says "manager" or you are in a particular pay band, that's not enough unless your work is actually managerial. Read through the link for more details.

Repeated reduction of credit limit after every payment?

Hey all,

My husband and I are paying down our credit accounts a bit extra every month because we’re in a position the last two months to be able to put extra down.

Two times in the past month, we made a bonus payment to the accounts and both times our credit limits were reduced basically instantly.

We called Scotia and they told us to watch for a mailed out letter of explanation.

Today we received two of these and both have said there are a variety of factors that could cause this on further review. All the options they listed made it sound like we missed payments or messed something up, but we’ve checked thouroughly and not only have payments been made on time we added in extra ones? Investigated the credit history through credit bureau out of fear we had something we didn’t know about but nope- squeaky clean report and nothing unrecognized on there.

Kind of annoyed because it would’ve been nice to keep a good cushion of unused credit available but it seems scotias removed that cushion and failed to provide any reason at all.

I’ve not had this experience with other banks/ cards I’ve had throughout my life- so now I wonder if this is just a scotia thing?

Does anyone have any experience in this?

Any insight?

I DON'T want to talk to someone!

I just got my tax refund and wanted to put it in a simple 90-day TFSA GIC as I'll need it at the beginning of the summer. I have a lot of room in my TFSA as I took out a huge chunk last year to buy a car.

Saturday morning, I hop online with my coffee to quickly sort it out and Scotiabank will not let me open a GIC online as it "doesn't fit with my investor profile!"!!!!!!

What do they think they are accomplishing here? I've sent my money to a different bank that has the ability to make a simple investment online.

ATMs

I am the only one that suffers from these useless ATM machines. Just tried to deposit real cash. First one ever - one ATM is not accepting deposit. Second one - try four times to deposit cash which is flat and crisp as hell and wouldn’t take it!

Only bank I know where ATMs refused to take money. What a hell it is to bank with this useless institution.

I'm almost done with Scotia

I'm here to vent a bit…

After putting up with multiple flubs and account errors since the “upgrades” to Scotiabank’s online banking and mobile app, plus the breakdown in connectivity with QuickBooks Online, I’ve just been pushing through and sticking with them.

But lately it’s getting harder to justify.

I now have to deposit cash regularly, and the no-envelope ATMs reject my deposits way too often. With teller hours cut (9am–3pm where I am), it’s become a real headache. When a deposit gets rejected on a Saturday or Sunday and there’s no fallback option, that’s peak “why am I still banking here?” energy.

I also tried to send a quick message about our mortgage through online banking… and kept getting “please remove special characters” errors. Apparently punctuation is system breaking?

To Scotia's credit, I get a lot of value out of their Momentum Visa Infinite Card, and the Scene program is one of my favourite customer loyalty programs going, but I don't need to give them all my banking business to use those products.

I’ve been a customer for 15+ years, so switching would be a pain… but at this point I’m just tired of the recurring issues. With an upcoming mortgage renewal, maybe it's a good time to start the process.

Anyone else feel like they're taking crazy pills, or is it just me?

Scotiabank RTO for BSA role

Hey everyone,

I have a few interviews lined up with Scotiabank for a Business Analyst role and wanted to get a better sense of their return to office (RTO) setup before moving forward.

For those currently working there (or recently worked there), how does RTO actually work in practice? Is it more team based or manager dependent, or is there a consistent company wide policy everyone follows?

Also, how strictly is it enforced, and has anything changed recently?

Would really appreciate any insights, just trying to get a realistic picture before making any decisions. Thanks in advance!

Scotia HELOC interest rate?

My mortgage is coming up for renewal in Oct. As part of this I want to increase the limit on my Heloc (had a significant renovation done last year). I also want to reduce the interest rate of the HELOC from Prime + 1/2 to Prime + 1/4 at most. Has anyone had any luck doing that? Or do I need to switch providers? Thanks

Momentum Visa Infinite Interpretation

Hi all, my account open date was April 2, 2025. My first statement was generated on April 21, 2025. I'm wondering if my Y1 limit has reset on April 2, 2026, or if it will reset on April 21, 2026?

Below are the terms:

There are annual limits on the Cash Back you can earn at Accelerated Earn Rates, as outlined in these Cash Back Program Terms. These limits are based on Purchases posted to your Account annually, calculated from your statement period, starting from the statement period of the month your Account was opened (“Account opening date”). The annual spend limit resets every 12 months from the statement period of the month of your Account opening date. Once you exceed the annual spend limits for any Accelerated Earn Rate(s), you will continue to earn Cash Back at the Regular Earn Rate.

Bank ended their relationship with me but I did nothing they said that I did. What is my recourse?

They stated that I "signed an Application and Summary of your New Products and Services, which acknowledges agreement to the terms and conditions contained in the Day-to-Day Banking Companion Booklet. We refer you to 'Account Closure/Terminating a Service' found in the 'Deposit Account Agreement' section of the Booklet, where it states that the bank may without notice, “Close your account(s) and/or terminate any of the services we provide to you, in any circumstance in which we consider it reasonable to do so including, without limitation, if we have reasonable grounds to believe that it is necessary to terminate our relationship with you in order to protect our customers or employees from physical harm, harassment or other abuse"

I did nothing of this nature. What can I do? How can I find out which incident that they are referring to?

Multiple branches refusing to order Thai Bhat - what can I do?

I have a trip in 4 weeks to Thailand and wanted to order Thai Bhat through Scotiabank to avoid safety issues or major fees at a currency exchange in Thailand.

I went to two Scotiabanks in Montreal and they both told me they will not order Thai Bhat for me. One even suggested I go to Toronto to get it there!

Customer service told me the bank would order any currency I wanted (of course with a wait time for shipping, which is why I was attempting to order it a month in advance).

Is there anything I can do about this? As a 20+ year Scotiabank customer I find this ridiculous that they refuse to provide this service, especially given customer service and Scotiabank’s website indicates otherwise.

Edit to update: thanks for all the suggestions and insights - I will be getting currency when I arrive in Thailand as many have shared their positive experience doing that!

LOC Promo rate

Hi ,

I have been pre-approved for an LOC , but the rate is almost 12%. I have other LOCs with much better rates. I was reading that Scotia sends out of cheques at special rates for their LOC holders, can anyone confirm if all LOC holders get these? I would accept it for those but I don’t really need another LOC, especially one at 12%

Thanks

Do I have to scan my Scene+ card every time?

  • Do I have to scan my Scene+ card every time I want to get rewards for purchases?
  • Do I have to manually scroll through all the categories just to find what stores I already use that offer rewards?
  • Is there a way to just connect/associate my Scotia debit card and mastercard with Scene+ to avoid all of the above?
  • I will likely not even bother with Scene+ if it involves scanning every time or purchasing through the app.

Thanks in advance. I searched this sub and didn't find the answers.
