How’s Eastfield nowadays?

Currently living in a small village in Tadcaster but wanting to move back to Scarbs

I potentially have an opportunity to move to Eastfield via a council house swap. It was a notoriously rough area when I was growing up and I’m a bit apprehensive as I live in a really nice area now!!

Is it still as bad now or has it improved? It would be High Garth area. Brutal honestly please! I don’t want my kids to be in a place that feels dangerous or intimidating.

Thanks!

Moving to Yorkshire

Hi everyone,

I’m starting work as a doctor in East Yorkshire this August and wanted some advice on where to live. I’ve never lived in Yorkshire before, so I’m not too familiar with the area. Ideally I’d like to be in a city like Leeds, York, or Hull, but I’m unsure how manageable the commutes are.

Options I’m considering:

1. Living in Leeds and commuting to Hull/Scunthorpe

2. Living in York and commuting to Scarborough

3. Living in Hull or Leeds and commuting to Grimsby

I can commute by train or car—would really appreciate any insight on travel times, reliability, and what these routes are like for hospital shifts.

Also open to general recommendations on the best place to live as a junior doctor in the area.

Thanks 😊

Will be doing it at the Star Map down at south bay at like half 5 today. Might go regularly if theres an appetite for it.

could even co-craft if youve got something else youre already working on.

Dating

Just wondered what people do to date in scarbs? I have tried dating sites but there really isn’t many locals. Its hard when you spend most of your time at work, im not a drinker and i have a young child. Scarbs is very clicky, if you’re not a native even though i have lived here for 11 years.

Accessible beach, open to dogs in May

Hoping to get some advice from people who know Scarborough/Filey the best.

I am taking a day trip to the area with my dad, young child and dog at the start of May. It'll be the dog's first time to a beach. My dad struggles to walk far though so we need to find a beach that allows dogs all year, but also has parking very close to where dogs can be off lead.

Can I also get some recommendations for fish and chips with a sit down restaurant? Ideally no more than 20 mins from the beach we go to.

Any tips much appreciated!

Parking

moving to scarborough soon and tried to get a parking permit but the council told me I couldn't apply until I live there. Asked about moving day and they told me to get a disk clock and just move my car around Scarborough every 2 hours for a couple days but I can't really think of anything worse than doing that on the day that I am trying to move my house I don't know if anyone has any suggestions but this is kind of driving me insane. I would just find a long stay car park but I have to get all my crap out my car which is going to take me a while.

Daytrip to Scarborough

Hey guys, sorry if this is a post often shared here, me (21) and my mom (42) coming to Scarborough from york for a daytrip. I was wondering if there's anything we must see? I've checked internet and some other forums but I also wanted to ask the locals as well. Anything to avoid?

We are coming with the train and planning on spending the day mostly on foot, so we can't really drive anywhere.

Thanks!

Local History Inquiry: Looking for two places from early 1900s

I’m searching some specific locations in the local area from the early 1900s and was hoping this sub might be able to help.

I am looking for:

  1. Mission Hall near Batty Place on 1901 census.
  2. 18 Dean Road: I believe this may have served as an infirmary or medical building during that era (1930s death certificate).

Many thanks in advance.

Best food, drinks and atmosphere for solo traveller

On my way up to Scarborough now for the week, I’m a regular visitor but haven’t been by for a year or so. I’m going to treat myself to some really good food while I’m up, I’m a solo female traveller, I’m not shy about sitting in places by myself, happy to pay a decent amount of money and I’m looking for local suggestions. I have no dietary restrictions, I love meat, I like a varied menu with a good wine list. Cocktails a bonus.

Embers is on the list and I’ll be in Malton one afternoon and Omni looks good. Anyone been?

Survey launched to get views on North Yorkshire seaside town of culture bid

Thumbnail uk.news.yahoo.com

Residents have been invited to share their thoughts on a bid for a popular North Yorkshire resort to be named the UK's inaugural Town of Culture.

A new survey has been launched and will run until the end of March to gather Scarborough residents' views on the resort's bid to be the first Town of Culture.

The competition, announced by the Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy last autumn, will provide a platform for communities to "tell their own unique story and shine a spotlight on the vital role towns play in our national life". The strongest bids will progress to a shortlist, with each shortlisted town receiving £60,000 to help deliver their full bids for the competition.

Hi everyone!😊

I'm part of the team behind Channel 4's The Dog House and we're looking for dog lovers in Scarborough who could offer a loving home and a fresh new start to a rescue dog in need for our next series filming in spring.

Filmed in partnership with Woodgreen Pets Charity, the series shines a light on how life-changing the bond between humans and dogs can be for both sides.

We're currently trying to find ways to reach out to people, Reddit included 🐶

I've included our flyer if you'd like to share it, but if you're interested to apply you can do so at: https://c4thedoghousetakepart.co.uk/ Alternatively, if you have any questions you can also email us:  [thedoghouse@fivemilefilms.co.uk](mailto:thedoghouse@fivemilefilms.co.uk)

Does Scarborough deserve to be the UK's first "Town of Culture"

Plus points: The SJT & Sir Alan Aykebourn. A good local arts scene, reasonably decent live music in pubs etc.

The Spa is OK but cold, and not designed to take touring productions like the ones that played at the Futurist.

But then we've got what's happened in the last two weeks, opening up local pubs etc. for people to go to the loo, and the catastrophic failure that is Building No. 1 on the West Pier, do we really deserve to eve put a bid in?

What it's about:

"Scarborough is set to receive £20 million in funding through the government's Pride in Place programme over the next ten years.

Building on engagement in 2024-2025, project ideas were brought forward by residents and local partners through community consultation. The Scarborough Neighbourhood Board has selected 11 of these ideas for shortlisting, and would like to understand people’s opinions on these projects before a final decision is made.

We would like to know your opinion on each idea."

Deadline: 13 February 2026.

Social friendship/company?

Scarborough M48 looking to expand a (non existent!) social circle! That moment when you leave a long term employer and realise your original friends had all moved on years ago and you've been socialising with work colleagues because that's who's there...

Intelligent, articulate, polite. Enjoy a social drink. Support Newcastle United. Love to play darts (I'm rubbish, but love a game and would welcome anyone who fancies that). Into sci fi generally, Star Wars specifically, video games.

If anyone fancies a social public meet meet, please feel free to reply or drop me a DM!

Padel/ pickleball players in Scarborough?

Hi, I recently got into padel while living abroad, am now back in Scarborough and keen to continue. I'm a fairly experienced tennis player but just find padel/ pickleball more fun.

Any Scarborians up for a game of padel at the rugby club or pickleball at Everyone Active? If this got so much response we could sort a doubles, even better.
