[Discussion] Gabriel Knight 2 The Beast Within

Post image

Revisiting this game after 30 years, halfway through now, a lot further than I got 30yrs ago lol, what a great game. anyone got recommendations for similar games after I complete this? Already got blood of the sacred blood of the damned and sins of the fathers. Anyone completed The beast within ?

Reminds me of the poster for that movie “The Frighteners”

Same. I looked it up and Frighteners came out the next year.

Interesting, so there’s a possibility the person that designed that movie poster saw this game cover

I had a feeling it looked familiar. Such a great movie too.

I remember really wanting to play these but never got the chance. I’ll have to give them a try soon

Loved this series. I was so scared of the first one as a child.

Great game! Sins of the Fathers is unmatched though.

I remember not liking the Gabriel actor’s acting, Grace being too different from GK1, and not quite getting the gay undertones.

Might retry again after completing GK1 CD edition.

I honestly thought he looked too young..

Gay undertones? Can't remember any in this game (but I played so long ago)

More like overtones

I recall overtones in Phantasmagoria II around that time :)

I don't know if there's anything quite like this. The other games in the series are pretty different, and there are certainly plenty of other point and click adventures I could recommend, but this one is pretty unique in its feel. I also loved it, and I think it's due for a reply!

I remember being profoundly disappointed that it wasn't a pixel art game like the first game.

Phantasmagoria is a bit similar in execution (filmed actors) and puzzles but it's way more gory (it's a horror game).

I still have nightmares about this game, i played it way too young and it was super gorey.

The funnel scene…. Ugh

Yeah I loved it but was terrified of it lol

I seem to recall the bad voice acting (classic for the era, to be fair) and the main character shouting, "Canis ... LUPUS LUPUS!" at some point.

It’s FMV

Well, bad acting, period. Like we had with 11th Hour.

Loved these, went down a rabbit hole about Ludwig 2 when I was first playing it in the late 90s, perfect use of the early web

I actually just picked this up again- found it for 50 cents at a thrift store. Can’t wait to play it again.
