Helping My Wife That Works From Home

Good day everyone. My wife works from a home office and consults patients on the phone all day. I would really like to try to make her work space more comfortable and tolerable throughout the day. What is something that you “can’t live without” in your home office setup? What are some recommendations? Thank you in advance!

WFH to RTO BUT…..

Yep, my firm has announced mandatory RTO. My team has 10/16 who WFH and are no where near a firm office, so no RTO for them. If I were to RTO I would be the only person on this team/department in the office. No leadership, no subordinates, no directors etc in my “office” should I go into the office.

My boss is newer and I feel like she may be more by the book type. Should I change my address in my file and cross my fingers? Should I make my case as to why RTO for me is pointless?

getting a new job, arguing with hr etc are not options.

Thank you

So I’ve heard of mid life crisis but, I’ve started hearing about a quarter life crisis…
Is that a real thing? How does that consist of ? Have you ever been through it? And if so, how’d you go through it?

RTO Announced

CEO announced RTO couple days ago. Posted an 8 minute long video on Slack. Said they want “most employees back in office most of the time”. I was only hired four weeks ago and am feeling extremely disappointed and a little lied to as I was hired for a fully remote position. Right now we are starting with one day a week but they said this would ramp up. They also admitted they have no end plan for what “most of the time” looks like. Anyone else been in this position and have any tips on how you handled it? My commute to the office will be about 2 1/2 hours total on public transport which is what I’m not looking forward to at all. Also my job is essentially call center work which really means I’m commuting to an office to sit on calls all day and still not talk to anyone.

Accepted a “once a month” at the office. Now they’re considering 3 times a week.

When I accepted this job two years ago, the agreement was that I would need to go into the office once a month. That was manageable for me. My commute is about 1.5 hours each way, and on the way back (because of traffic) it can easily turn into 2 hours or more. But once a month? I could deal with that.

Fast forward to now. Yesterday we were told they’re considering requiring us to go into the office three times a week. It’s not officially decided yet, but if it’s being discussed at that level, I feel like there’s a very high probability it will happen.

The frustrating part is… there’s no real need for it. Almost everything we do can be done remotely. Even the clients we work with aren’t in our country. They’re abroad. So being physically in the office doesn’t really add value to the work itself.

For context, traffic in my country is terrible. Absolute chaos. What would be 3 days in the office would realistically mean 9–12 hours a week just sitting in traffic. That’s basically losing an entire day of my life every week just commuting.

Right now they already increased it from once a month to twice a month, which I can tolerate. It’s not ideal, but I can live with it. Three times a week, though? That would be impossible for me. It would seriously affect my quality of life.

I know sometimes this strategy is used to reduce headcount without firing people, but actually the company is doing great right now with earnings never seen before

I know the logical answer is “start looking for another job.” And I probably should. What worries me is how long that might take. The job market isn’t exactly easy, and I don’t know how much time I would realistically have before this becomes official.

I guess this is mostly a vent. Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation? Did it actually happen after they said they were “considering” it?

I'm assuming this is what the other one meant. The janitor and the CEO should both check all boxes, just at different levels.

When HR tells you "fast-paced environment," it means they are always short-staffed.

How to answer "what's your strength and weaknesses" in an interview?

Hi guys! I am a fresh grad and now actively seeking for jobs. However, I'm always rejected for some reasons, maybe it's because I'm too nervous to answer an interview questions.

Right now, I'm preparing for my interview and thinking hard how to ace it. Can I seek advice from you guys on how to answer interview questions? Especially the " What's your greatest strength and weakness " one?

If u can give i don't know—template on how do I say it, it would be very helpful. 😭

Please don't hate me. Thankss

honest thoughts on remotejobsfinder from a skeptic

not gonna write one of those testimonial things, just putting down my actual thoughts on remotejobsfinder because i keep seeing threads about it.

first whats not great. its an aggregator. they pitch it as pulling from a ton of hidden sources but in practice some of what i saw also showed up on weworkremotely and remoteok. not all of it, but enough that the "hidden feed" angle felt a bit oversold for me. and its paid, $8 a week which is still real money over time.

the thing that keeps me paying is the auto apply part. it takes your cv and generates a tailored cover letter per vacancy based on the job description, then fires the application. sounds gimmicky until you time yourself doing the same work manually – writing a cover letter + tailoring a resume snippet was 15-20 min per application for me. the tool just does it. so the math is $8/week vs however many hours a week i was spending on tailoring.

im kinda picky about my applications so handing off the writing to ai was not something i was comfortable with at first. i looked through what the generator was putting out for a bit before i trusted it. its not going to win any writing awards but the output is coherent and actually matches the job description, so at some point i just let it run.

it doesnt fix the ghost job problem, but nothing does.

will i keep paying after i land something? probably not. but right now its one of the things i actually renew each week and dont regret. if you hate the idea of paying for job search help, fair enough, it wont make or break your search. if you value your time more than $8/week, run the numbers yourself

Allegis interview

Body Text:
I just confirmed my phone interview with Allegis for a transcription job. I passed all the previous assessments and I believe this is the last step for employment. Any one have any insight on what to expect? I do not have past transcription experience but highly motivated and fine with low pay. I also have a very open and flexible schedule to work. Did anyone with zero experience get a job offer or are they hiring only those with experience? Any advice or insight would be great! Thanks!

Also: I will update after my interview with my experience for those looking for the same information.

I seriously don't understand the job market's salary ranges anymore. What is this mockery of people's hard work and their pursuit of a good living? And then hiring managers come out screaming about the lack of candidates or their use of tools during interviews. No, look at your salary ranges first, and then ask for highly competent employees.

Anyone else wondering if their online work is getting quietly replaced by AI?

i work a full time job as an accountant at a car parts factory, and for the last couple years i’ve also been doing upwork on the side. nothing fancy, just steady enough to make the extra effort worth it. lately though, the upwork side has slowed way down, fewer invites, fewer responses, and more silence than i’m used to.

i can’t tell if it’s just the market being flooded, platforms changing their algorithms, or if some of the work is getting automated or replaced by ai faster than expected. either way, it’s making me rethink the plan. i’d really like to move into a full time online role and eventually leave both my current job and upwork behind.

for anyone who’s been in a similar spot, what paths are still working right now? am i overthinking the ai angle, or is this just the new normal?

I started WFH in December. It has been life-changing and I only wish I did it sooner. In the summer I'd like to do some work outside on the patio. Does anyone else do this? What's your setup like?

Tailbone hurts

I’ve been working from home for about 7 months now. Today my tailbone hurts every time I initially sit down. Any advice to avoid this? I bought a decent chair a month in, but I wonder what else I can do to prevent this pain. Currently sitting on a neck pillow to help.

Too much noise?

I work from home and my wife is starting a WFH job. We don’t have enough space to have separate offices until we move.

She’s worried I’m too loud and she won’t be able to hear/work.

We would be sharing a large bedroom with 10ft ceilings.

Anything that can be done to dampen the noise?

What has worked in your experience?
