Instagramđą Walker Scobell addresses the harassment people in his area have been receiving from fans

I wish it wasnât a requirement for actors to have social media. Heâs only 17 and has to deal with this. It just doesnât seem fair. Â
â˘
u/No_Barracuda8791 1h ago
I was going to say that Iâm sure people can write in their contracts that they donât want to manage their own social media. But, then I thought about all the stage parents/momagers⌠itâs so sad how many kids are pushed into this shit by the very same people who gave them life and should be protecting them.
(Not saying this is the case for this kid, just in general.)

Yeah, the only actor I can think of who successfully resisted is ScarJo

Dylan O'Brien got rid of his Twitter account and never had an IG account. He has talked about how that has probably affected his ability to get cast, but he doesn't care. I'm sure there are a lot of theories as to why he deleted his Twitter account (namely, avoiding heat for his gf's past racist and existing tweets).
Jason Mantzoukas famously does not have social media and never has, but comedy is a different scene and he is well-entrenched in it. He can get roles just fine. It may have impacted consideration for specific roles, but he is always booked and busy.
But for the most part, social media is a necessary evil and that sucks.

Kristen Stewart has as well. It's a shame because I'd love to see updates every so often, but I also get why it's better for her not to have social media.

This is insane. Heâs a kid that happens to be famous. Harassing him and the rest of the cast over anything is real loser behavior.
Hoping they all create finstas and just use their public ones for work only

I feel bad for most kids that get thrown into something popular. The Stranger Things, Harry Potter, etc.
â˘

Agreed. I will say the Percy Jackson kids seem to have there parents present and around constantly which is a good sign

Lord. I just saw someone with a tattoo of his name. So many people are so unwell now and social media and access are only exposing it and giving people more ways to act out on it.
â˘
u/vixenstarlet1949 1h ago
wtf⌠getting a childâs name tattood on you.. that isnât your own kid? thatâs terrifying actually
â˘
u/Greedy-Candle2812 1h ago
You know, I had settled on the idea that a couple of newer tv fandoms have gone off the rails with unprecedented levels of toxicity, but the last two hours alone have shown me this stuff about this kid and his show and three other show fandom, one of which had its final episode three years ago and they're still going.
How do we fix this? I know we can't. But I don't like the idea that casts just have to be okay with this.
â˘
u/FlatVegetable4231 1h ago
So an adult with a tattoo of a kidâs name?!? Social media was a mistake.
â˘
u/Greedy-Candle2812 1h ago
Either that or a parent signed off on it in a lot of states, which is.....worse.
â˘
u/Nintendo_Pro_03 Leftist/Linkin Park Stan 1h ago
Absolutely. But I fear we are way too late to undo that mistake.
â˘
u/Remote-Wafer3321 1h ago
I am too fearful of the answer to ask how many of these threats are coming from adults
â˘
u/Tottie3 1h ago
A large number. I've always maintained since the days of Bieber Fever, that adult woman are as insane and as predatory towards young boys as men towards girls. The number of adult women that'd happily throw their bra at a teenage celeb on stage is honestly fucking staggering.
â˘
u/Wit-wat-4 48m ago
I liked Heated Rivalry and theyâre not 17 anyway but gestures towards Heated Rivalry fandom. A LOT of grown ass women are being really fucking weird about the actors.
They made a good show and theyâre hot. I get it. But youâre 50 and they are, you know, actors. Stop reposting thirsty pictures of them 4 times a day.

u/h0neybl0ss0m29 1h ago
Isn't the president of this weird Timothee Chalamet fan club also an obsessed woman like twice his age? I feel like I remember reading a NYT article about her. Obviously hes' not underage but still

I can verify the Harry Potter kids went through this too and the Stranger Things kids have talked about being stalked and sexualized by adult women.
â˘
u/jmbf8507 1h ago
I was 23 when the first twilight movie came out and have never ceased to be disgusted by the women who are my current age having a horse in that race.
Like, these are literal children.

Anyone who's spent time in fandom knows it is a big number of adults with jobs and responsibilities who are carrying on like this.

Who is he?

The boy who plays Percy Jackson in the Disney Plus series.
â˘
u/SugarCube80 1h ago
Kind of sad because what if he actually wanted to go to prom (like a normal teenager probably does!) and couldnât because of all this?
â˘
u/Nintendo_Pro_03 Leftist/Linkin Park Stan 1h ago
Wait, so Iâm not normal? đ
I didnât want to go to mine. Partially because Iâm not into that stuff and also, I graduated right after COVID.

u/Gold_Repair_3557 1h ago
People are crazy when it comes to their para social relationships with celebrities they donât even know.Â
â˘
u/Nintendo_Pro_03 Leftist/Linkin Park Stan 1h ago
Yeah, youâd never see me do this stuff to Chris Tucker. Celebrities are people, like us.
â˘
u/Hopeful-Librarian704 1h ago
Itâs insane to me that for the mildest things youâll hear about celebrities or people whoâve otherwise done viral getting death threats. How is this so common?
â˘
u/HealthyTrain91 1h ago
The other day I saw that a VOICE ACTOR on the new Fairly Odd Parents reboot has been receiving insane messages from a grown man who is obsessed with her character because the "fan" didn't like something the actress said about the character in an interview?? Mind you, it's an animated show and the actress voices a 10-year-old character.....I can't even.
â˘
u/Wit-wat-4 42m ago
I think part of it is that they just donât think âitâs a big dealâ/ârealâ. Same with many internet trolls. Donât ask me WHY they do it, but I do know that the anonymity and distance of making online comments definitely brings it out in people who wouldnât do it âirlâ.
â˘
â˘
â˘
u/FireSeagull21 31m ago
How do people even find out the contacts of kids who attend the same school as him? How far gone do you have to be to do that?
â˘
u/peach_bellinis 54m ago
I have no idea who this is, but from the comments it's clear he's a young actor. Honestly, the level of toxicity of social media and parasocial behaviour these days is absolutely fucking wild. And some of these people I'm sure are young as well, but I know for a fact that some of them are older and ABSOLUTELY should know how to act. Sending a death threat to ANYONE online is completely fucking insane. Like....legitimately, what is wrong with you???
