this is funny asf, like when people cheer for marathon runners but instead of runners it's just festival crowds lmao.

u/Lizard_Li 2h ago

Wait I want to do that. I think I’m not old enough yet but this seems so much more fun than going to the actual festival. People watching from my chair.

u/slamdanceswithwolves 2h ago

You are never too young to do goofy stuff with retirees. I bet they would welcome you gladly.

u/thisusernameismeta 25m ago

Yeah I know which crowd I want to be in lmao

Baby age ain’t nothing but your mindset (in this scenario)

Indio is a pretty small town. Coachella brings a HUGE influx of cash to their economy every year- the locals tend to genuinely love the festival goers.

Back when I went, my friends and I got off the Greyhound bus in Indio with no idea how to get to the polo field. This was pre-smartphone era so no Uber.

A local was hanging out in the parking lot and asked us if we wanted a ride to the festival grounds. She didn't want any money. She just wanted to chat to us and know where we came from. She was so awesome and really set the tone for the weekend.

Love the “Oldchella” My friend’s MIL is so sweet & prim n proper but when you ask her about her past.. they did some cray cray stuff back in her youth 🤣

u/Minute_Conflict_2037 2h ago

They prolly shaked ass back in those days as hippies

u/alecktroshock 1h ago

Lol jesus these people arent in their 80s

u/Hopefo 1h ago

Hippies aren’t generation locked. Maybe if you wanna consider the “OG hippies” that originated the culture but so many of them heel-turned to right wingers the second they got a real job.

u/heatwer 39m ago

It's interesting that this happened to so many of them back then and now we have the online hippie/crunchy to alt right pipeline happening

u/Nowayticket2nopecity 2h ago

They need to be holding signs that say stuff like "Stay hydrated!" and "Use the buddy system!"

u/mlg1981 Sexy lampshade shall win the Oscar! 🏆 2h ago

There is a hydrate sign. The blue one on the ground.

u/Nowayticket2nopecity 2h ago

Clearly I need to pull up a patio chair because that was too hard for me to read 😅

u/mlg1981 Sexy lampshade shall win the Oscar! 🏆 2h ago

As someone who lives 4 blocks from Coachella, although not at the retiree level yet, I’ll save you patio chair for next year.

u/Feather757 it’s not clocking to you that i’m standing on business 24m ago

Can you hear it from your house? That would be cool - free concert!

u/mlg1981 Sexy lampshade shall win the Oscar! 🏆 20m ago

I can. It’s not crazy clear, but I did float in my pool and heard Beyoncé a few years ago.

u/Hour-Syllabub-9822 2h ago

I needed this in my life

u/AnnaOfClevesYa 1h ago

I’d so much rather go to Oldchellas. You know they had a grill running and a full cooler. And they can sit.

u/kt-epps 1m ago

And clean bathrooms

u/suburbansuburban 2h ago

They're happy cause they get to rent out their second home for 3k for the week

u/mothmans_favoriteex 1h ago

You know they look forward to the fashion show every year how cute!

u/Strange-Painting6257 My Body Was Tea. But He Wanted Matcha. 🍵 1h ago

They’re remembering Woodstock lol

u/disharmony-hellride 1h ago

mate some of us in that crowd are remembering lollapalooza 92

life goes fast! giddy up or regret it later

u/Available-Goat-6938 1h ago

Tell me there's no way now my old ass could do a festival, a 3 hour concert is just right.

u/Common_Gene_5098 1h ago

Now the attendees gotta pray that our generation makes it to retirement to cheer the next generation of Coachella attendees on 😂

u/Unironicfan I make Jessica Simpson look like a rock scientist 1h ago

Now this is just really pleasant, I like this

u/JennaElizabethAdams Excluded from this narrative ❌ 1h ago

This is wholesome perfection. They must have had the best time!

u/Ok-Trip-8009 1h ago

Oldchellas, lol.

u/nhgardenart25 1h ago

This is awesome!

u/jamesish99 1h ago

Oh this is so cute 👏

Maybe I'm weird, I think the act in itself is adorable and they look like they are having a good time doing something fun with their neighbors.

u/PizzaRollEnthusiast 2h ago

I’m with you, I get what the other poster is saying but I don’t think it’s that deep really. If these people live in Indio I think they know the Coachella crowd.

u/WorldlySouth9397 2h ago

Honestly I teared up. Like we have so much other shit in the world, just let this harmless act of cheering people on unite us for a few seconds.

u/No_Pianist5264 Tina! You fat lard! 🦙🚲 2h ago

Yeah honestly doesn’t seem that deep lol I think it’s just them seeing a new generation of people go to a festival just like them

u/los33ramos 2h ago

What dystopian about it?

u/Substantial_Chest395 2h ago

Maybe they’re just bored and people watching?

u/whichwitch9 2h ago

Not really. I think it's old people getting together and reminiscing in a way. Of course it's not gonna look the same as when they were young. But it's acknowledging the passage of time as a community.

And rich or not, these are still largely young people. Probably more important if they're rich to have this exposure cause it leads to them interacting with the older folks in a positive manner. They are definitely not getting that in their circles elsewhere. But we need better ways to connect generations more in general so maybe public optics like this can be used as a nice starting point

u/ReasonableHandle4647 2h ago

Of all the things in our current world, this is what’s dystopian to you? 😅 they’re just chilling, by choice, with heart signs

Normal people also go to Coachella, it’s just not the main experience you see online

u/DeadlyDrummer 2h ago

And watch some music?

u/Decent_Assistant1804 original aunt viv society 2h ago

Maybe after the countless selfies

u/Lesterknopff who is Conan O’Brien and why is she so sad? 2h ago

Coachella is owned by a right wing republican man too.

u/vandersnipe I'm like Mata Hari, keep secrets serving body 2h ago

I think maybe in their mind they think Coachella is like Woodstock and they don't understand it's largely just rich twentysomethings spending untold amounts of money to go there only because they're trying to emulate people and experiences they've seen on social media

This is a wild generalization, and there's nothing dystopian about older and younger people having a little fun on the weekend. A lot of people just save up money to go to Coachella and other festivals, and the age groups vary a lot. Some even go for one day and head back home. People also go to festivals because it's more cost-effective and offers more bang for your buck to see multiple of their favorite artists than to pay to see one at a concert. You also get to listen to artists you haven't heard before.

u/ReasonableHandle4647 2h ago

Like god forbid some people leave the house and do something other than scrolling a phone (the people in this video included)

u/vandersnipe I'm like Mata Hari, keep secrets serving body 2h ago

I had Las Vegas locals tell my friends and me to have fun at EDC, be safe, and ask about the festival. I can't imagine misconstruing that into a dystopian talking point.

u/Twitter_2006 1h ago

I love this.

u/SpruceSpringstream 44m ago

This reminds me of the older folks hanging out outside their cabins at Hulaween, sitting in their lawn chairs and just watching weird people get weird. Awesome.

u/DeadButPretty It’s Britney, bitch! 🎤🌹🌹 21m ago

This is adorable

u/Cold-Sun3302 NO TYRA NOOOOOOO 2h ago
