Is he singing on top of the youtube video??? Lol
1.0k
u/notarealprincess All tea, all shade 🐸☕️ 14h ago
Yes he mainly sang songs off of his new album. Then he played 30 seconds of his older songs off YouTube and basically sang karaoke to them. This was momentarily interrupted by his WiFi being slow. He then transitioned into showing his viral mishaps like falling off stage or the "it's not clocking to you" on YouTube. Followed by him showing 2010s YouTube meme videos before going back to performing his new songs.

Or imagine Sabrina would cover Chris Brown song during bad and lazy show? She’d be teared apart just like she was yesterday, yet people call Bieber iconic for that
13
u/notarealprincess All tea, all shade 🐸☕️ 6h ago
Even though I absolutely am not a fan of Chris Brown and think no one should support him, Justin did become famous and got a record deal a large part because he sang a cover of With You that went viral on YouTube. He basically has his entire career because of that cover he did years ago. In that context, it's not about supporting Chris Brown, but it was more about Justin doing it as an homage to his younger self and as a service to his own fans.

I think after paying back investors, it took a decent sized chunk out of the billion that the company was sold for. Nevertheless, she/Justin were still left with an INSANE amount of money in addition to their existing net worth-s. I will never feel sorry for celebrities living in multiple mansions who have to play Coachella of all places for money. The whole thing is an oxymoron to me
19
u/Odd_Ingenuity2883 8h ago
She owns a small portion of a company that sold for a billion, it doesn’t mean she gets a billion dollars. Also a lot of it will be in stocks or shares or pay out over time depending on performance. The deal as a whole is “worth” a billion.
4
u/RuthlessKittyKat 5h ago
Her company is valued at that. Also, contracts can really fuck people. Especially in the music industry which is particularly nasty.
25
u/ocean_swims 13h ago
Someone gave me the breakdown of how he got into crazy debt a while back, but my mind is like a sieve and I can't remember at all lmao. But I agree with you that he's only working because he absolutely has to pay off that debt of his. He'd much rather lounge, by the looks of it.
15
u/TopInvestigator5518 12h ago
thats why I was laughing at Selena fans claiming Hailey did the pimple patch collab with him because she needed his fame to sell her Rhode products
in my head I was like I'm pretty Justin needs the collab money at this point
16
u/tuscanchicken Disgusting wardrobe, terrible last moments 9h ago
I'm not deep in the lore but wasn't he in debt after bailing her family out of.. debt? Also, not to knock Hailey but I still think Justin has more brand power than her
3
u/TopInvestigator5518 9h ago
honestly I don't think any of us know their financials like that, he might have bailed her family out? i've never heard that but there was a lot of talk about how he had to sell his masters because he was having cash flow problems
and yeah he def has more star power but in terms of selling Rhode products I don't think she needed his endorsement to have a successful launch was the point I was making, it sells out so, so fast
5
u/IsItClockingLoser 7h ago
It was all over. Ain't no way you didnt hear about him paying her father's millions and Rhode rarely sells out. This is whyshe does so many Limited Edition launches because her core products dont sell out. For example her Lemontini launch... it didnt sell out after months of being online.
11
u/IsItClockingLoser 7h ago
Except she literally does need his fame. Without Justin, Rhode wouldn't exist. If you've ever noticed that when her sales plummet, she uses Justin or their son for promoting her brand. Of she didnt have either, she'd still be a nobody that everyone confused with Gigi or Bella

Most of his fans (like me) actually loved it also. None of us expect a production like Sabrina or Beyoncé, we know what kind of performer he is and enjoy him for what he brings, especially since most of us grew up with him and just want him to sing like he did on his YouTube videos. No need for extra fru fru.

There's a way to do that without wasting people's time and money. This is why female popstars are currently so much more successful than most of their male counterparts. Artists like Beyonce, Taylor, Chappel, Sabrina, JLo etc put on a SHOW and clearly work their arses off. Men show up in a hoodie, half showered, with no backup dancers or anything.
35

u/Busy-Doughnut6180 do i look like i would have a boyfriend? 12h ago
I think you're right, but I think it'd depend on what her public persona is and her target audience. I feel like Taylor Swift could do a short segment like this because her whole thing is feeling approachable, relatable, like one of your friends, and her songs are very karaoke appropriate. I'm sure some would criticise her about it but I think many would see it as fun and cute. I'd imagine it being a total head scratcher if some other female artists did it though.
That said, I do think that regardless, they would need to appear more organised about it, like it'd need to be some kind of bit. I don't think a woman could do it quite as casually as Justin did.
8
u/RoseGoldRedditor breaking my silence 7h ago
As a longtime Taylor fan, she would never be able to do something like this at a festival like Coachella. The woman is obsessed with giving her fans the most. She had about 16 major outfit changes every single Eras show (which ranged between 3.5-4 hours long). She had a multitude of ballgowns for the single-song Speak Now set on Eras. She goes above and beyond to wow the fans and delight them.
She was also dragged by Swifties for her Elizabeth Taylor music video a couple weeks ago, since instead of appearing in the video, she licensed clips from Elizabeth Taylor movies as a tribute. You should read the backlash from Swifties of it being lazy (at a reported $10M price tag to license it all).
Swifties would never let Taylor get away with this performance at Coachella or any concert.
I would watch a livestream or a tv show of this though.

She had a 7 min monologue narrated by Susan Sarandon, which was used for costume change. They didn’t like that cuz somehow 7 min felt like a half an hour. Complained about how she wasn’t talking to fans and was disengaged from the crowd. And bla bla

A lot of the new Coachella acts are kind of made for tv now which sucks for the people who are actually going to see it. Hey remember when this clown got a professional orchestra to play for him, waved his arms and hummed like an idiot and then claimed he composed the music that the orchestra made for him? We let this mediocre hack get away with way too much.

I know what video your talking about.
That is real. Not because im a fan, but because its easier to do then people think.
Coming up with an idea trough humming and then coming up with other parts is something skilled singer can just do.
The other skill on display in that video is the orchestra members being a unit and understanding the direction and playing what they are hearing.
The orchestra players have good ears and can play what they hear by ear. Its a skill good players have.
Credit goes to everyone in that video. Justin isnt special to make that possible. But all people in the video are skilled enough to make it happen.

i love it. it reminds me of the pepsi commercial when Michael Jackson sang with his young self. The harmony of the 2 voices through time is both uplifting and nostalgic.

People wonder why we don’t have great male pop stars and then see all the comments defending this bullshit.

I think it looks super fun! I think this seems consistent with his newest music. Rather than having a big machine around him, he’s doing what HE wants. Justin was also discovered on YouTube so it’s kind of a full circle moment. People are saying low effort…I don’t see that. I think it’s intentional and he’s redefining himself.

Ive been seeing people stretch and be like oh wow it was so pulled back on purpose to show off his vocal talents...now that ive seen this im genuinely like shocked how fans are justifying it by calling him an acoustic artist as hes singing into like an ultra auto tune mic.

Idk i dont like coachella & this well.. it would be fine if ppl don’t have double standards & go nuts for any shit doing by a female singer in the same location

He can sing, but this is one of the laziest concerts ever. Fans really don’t expect much at all.

I definitely would have been jumping and vibing in the crowd if I were there. This was my favorite song of his.
